14 of us including the driver took over the hotel for 4 nights of great warm hospitality from Carlos and Madalena Almeida. The Quinta has an unrivalled position looking out over the Upper Douro valley. We knew of the place from our daughter who had stayed some 4 years before with other business school students. All the party of Londoners were delighted with the place and the helpfulness and friendliness of the Almeidas. Madalena cooked very good dinners every night for us and Carlos inexpensively sourced attractive wines, often through his friends. Our winery programme was enriched with his local knowledge and a good coach service was his recommendation.
The view is outstanding, helped in our case, 2nd week April, with unseasonably good weather. The common rooms are good with huge windows and the diversions include, as well as the pool (not available April), an equipped snooker table, a bridge table and some reading material. Rooms are 3 star size but are spotless and modern, however, you do not come here to sit in your room but in the public areas or under the wisteria pergola with your glass of wine.
Your car needs a good bottom gear for the cobbled approach to the drive. Enjoy it!
