We offer a home cooked menu, using local produce, with a restaurant that extends into the Old Hall itself, complete with Elizabethan Minstrels Gallery.

My parents and boyfriend spent 2 nights in the 2 bedroom Spring Cottage at The Old Hall Inn in July. This is a great addition to the 2 village pubs. Staff were all friendly and helpful, food in the pub, on both nights and b'fast, was fantastic. The village is very picturesque and gave us a great taste of the Peak District. We spent one of the days at Chatsworth House - much to Mum's delight - and took a stroll around the lovely village in the evening. The best part about the cottage was heading back after dinner in the pub (about 30 seconds away) and sitting on the back patio with a glass of wine and enjoying the evening. Although we didn't use it to it's full capacity, the cottage seemed really well equipped for self catering and everything looked very good quality. We all liked how the cottage's old character showed through, yet the modern finish was done to a high standard and was kept really clean. My Dad asked for a shaving socket in the bathroom, but aside fromt that - it had everything we needed and we all had a great stay. Thanks!

This pub was recommended by the owner of the holiday cottage we stayed at nearby. I am so glad we booked in advance. This is one of the best top quality pub grub restaurants around. My wife had the Thai Noodle salad and I had the crab cakes for starters. We both opted for the freshly steamed home made steak and ale pudding. The suet pastry was really thin and the pudding was packed with very tasty beef steak. Easily the best steak pudding ever. If you want to make sure you get to try it for yourself, you can book it at the same time as you book the table. The chips came in their own metal mini fryer basket. Presentation was as great as the food. Service was spot on despite being busy. Really friendly staff. Just wish they would open up in Marlborough .

Had a meal here on a very very busy Friday night. Two lovely starters of whitebait and a salmon pate - faultless. Mains of hunters chicken and fresh crab with Tapenade (?) were ok but not great. Too much strong olive taste overpowering the crab's less robust flavour and the hunters chicken needs a bit more refinement, it looked and tasted like something you get at a chain pub - not bad by any means but you'd expect more from this place. Worst thing about the evening was some idiotic punter who decided that he would stand right over us to have his cigarette. Literally put his pint down on our table and lit up within an arms length. We asked him if he wouldn't mind moving a little further away to which he said that we were sat at the community table (?) and that this was where people smoke. If there was indeed a specific smoking area it wasn't signed in any way, but there was plenty of outdoors for him to go at even so, indeed he took himself off around the corner where he wasn't bothering anyone... Not sure why he couldn't have done that in the first place other than that he was clearly trying to make a point.. Ridiculous. Noticed that he was out on his own, pretty obvious why. Anyway, a good beer selection and a nice wine list in addition to the good food and lovely setting makes for an excellent evening out.

Thank David H

Thank you for taking the time to review our Inn. I'm sorry for the bullish manner of one of our customers. It surprises me to hear of such, 99.9% of our locals go out of there way to welcome other guests to the Old Hall, a fact i'm very proud of. I'm sure a return visit won't she any such instances.
Best Regards
Dan

We came here to celebrate my wife's birthday after a trip to the Otter sanctuary at Chapel. We had a lovely room with a good view of the surrounding peaks. I had pre-booked an evening meal, which was a wise move, as the pub was busy even though it was midweek. The food was excellent, with a good choice of varied dishes on the menu. It is a real ale pub with a good selection of beers, both local and national. It also has an extensive range of Belgian beers.

As we stayed overnight we had a little walk round the village afterwards as it is an interesting little place. If you wanted to stay longer we noted that there are full descriptions of a range of walks of varying length and difficulty in the guest folder in the room. If you fancy one of them copies are available from the bar.

Breakfast was excellent and served in the old hall. Be aware that the full breakfast is large - big tomatoes, big mushrooms and big sausages.

The menu is comprehensive and both the quality of the food and the size of the meals mean that whilst not cheap the dinning is a good value experience. Good choice of local and Belgian beers along with a good choice of on tap offerings. Staff and friendly and helpful. certainly worth a visit.

Thank you for taking the time to review our Inn, we are delighted you enjoyed your stay. Our menu can be found on our website and changes often. We also do early bird meals where we offer 2 courses for £10. Its still the same quality homemade food, just offering even better value.

Thanks
