“Beautiful environment , but”
Reviewed 28 November 2016 for a stay in November 2016

Great environment, beautiful view.
The kitchen was good, everything you need is there. We had a broken cutting board but a day later there was a replacement. Not a new one, but usable. The bathroom downstairs was neat but the bathroom upstairs had mold around the cranes. This might be something to look at.

Sadly enough, the beds were horrid. You could feel the springs of the mattresses in all the beds we tried. In the end we placed something on top of it to make it more comfortable. The couches in the living room have seen better days and sitting is not comfortable anymore.

In general the cottage is very promising if the things above are taken care of. It is in a incredible location and there is so much to do in the surroundings. You can make lovely trips in both England and Scotland. At this moment I would not go back but if slight improvements are made we would definitely consider it.

Thank you Jolanda. We always like to know if guests find something not to their liking, it helps us make things better for the future. The traces “mold” you saw around the taps is mineral limescale from the hard water in the public supply; not a health problem but difficult to remove despite weekly cleaning. Beds; we will be replacing a couple early next year. We will also offer guests an optional topper. Different people have different preferences and most other guests have found the beds comfortable. The three piece suite in the lounge is specially chosen to suit the environment of the cottage and other guests have found it comfortable and relaxing. Overall we try to surpass requirements of the Visit England quality control inspectors who inspect our cottage every year and have always awarded us 4 Star classification.

“perfect fishing lodge”
Reviewed 9 November 2016 for a stay in September 2016

Charming owners
Brilliant location for Berwick and the coast, Kelso and the Tweed Valley.
Walking distance from the village of Norham
The cottage was perfect. We had everything we needed.
A home from home rather than a holiday cottage
Norham Castle and The Lady Kirk most interesting.
A very special part of Northumberland
We'll be back!

Thanks, Ian and Lizzie for your kind comments. We hope we will see you here again at Boathouse Cottage. Weather today a bit autumnal, not as good as when you were here. Alexander & Susan

“Beautiful tranquil river walks far from the madding crowd”
Reviewed 2 November 2016 for a stay in October 2016

Our second stay in the Boathouse which, if you like beautiful rivers, takes a bit of beating. At this time of year the autumn colours were simply breath-taking, and you can walk for miles along the banks of the Tweed with only the odd leaping salmon, or flitting Kingfisher for company. Terrific place to unwind and reflect on the sheer joy which nature can bring. Light the wood burning stove for a cosy night in the cottage, or pop to one of the village pubs for a bar meal and a pint. We'll be back
