This hotel may not be the "five star" experience those who hang out at the Four Seasons hotels are accustomed too,but for those who seek an unpretentious, very reasonable cost and friendly stay, this is where you belong. My room was spacious, with a good sized living room area (where I was able to set up my computer and MagicJack and work from), a large bathroom and even a walk in closet. I had a small fridge in my room and access to a fully equipped kitchen, just steps away (shared with the other room on my floor). The rooftop terrace offers a great view of the charming city of Chapala and the lake - and a good place at which to read. The hotel is centrally located and very safe (it's located right across from the region's police headquarters). It's quiet, clean and the owners are kind and attentive. The only negative is there is no TV, but in this era of Netflix and TV and movies accessible by computer, that should not be a negative for anyone in this high tech generation.

Room Tip: There are only four rooms in this boutique hotel and all appear to be ample. However, the second flo...

Thanks Jim, glad you had a good visit with us at El Pequeño Hotel. We feel that our rates are a good price for a unpretentious, friendly stay in a spacious room with it's own living-room area to spread out in and feel comfortable for either work or recreation. All of our long stay rooms have their own mini refrigerator, and these guests are also welcome to use the shared kitchen, as you mentioned. The rooftop is one of the popular places our guests like to favor because they can get very good Wi-Fi reception there as well, which allows them to do work in a pleasant environment or enjoy the internet in which ever way they want while taking in the sun and views. That is how we see the TV as well, in today's high tech world watching what you want over the internet is a far better option then receiving whatever is on the television.

I felt right at home at the El Pequeno Hotel in Chapala. It's perfectly located near everything in Chapala, easy walking distance. The bus to the entire "Chapala Riviera" (7 pesos) is but a few blocks away and runs every few minutes. Likewise the taxi stand on the plaza is also nearby.

The owners are lovely people, kind and solicitous. The hotel, which they renovated, has custom touches everywhere. Yet it is still true to the Mexican experience.

Room Tip: I enjoyed Room 3, slightly larger and upstairs, with its own refrigerator. I would ask for it again.

Thanks Merry Traveler,
Many of our guests comment on our central location where a car is not needed because the bus and taxi services that are only a few blocks away, and how there are many tourist attractions within an easy walk from the hotel. We are happy to be able to provide a comfortable and secure "Mexican experience" for our guests at El Pequeño Hotel.

We'd tried a few times to get in to Hotel El Pequeno... third time was the charm! What a lovely place to stay. This is not a full-service hotel -- no TV (fine by us), no included breakfast (fine by us) -- but you also don't pay full-service prices. Instead, for a very economical price, you get a spotlessly clean, perfectly located, charming boutique hotel with handsomely sized and appointed rooms, modern bathrooms, ceiling fan for cooling and white noise, a shared kitchen with assigned cookware and dishes, and a gorgeous mirador (rooftop lookout). We didn't meet Murray (out of town) but Lynne is a treasure -- low key, open, and easy-going. And she makes -- I'm not kidding -- the best carrot cake I've ever had (no guarantee she'll make any while you're there).

Room Tip: Room #3 (second floor, street side) has great light but can be a bit noisy early in the morning.

Thank you for staying at our little hotel, it was nice to have you as guests here. Thanks also for the compliment of our hotel being " a lovely place to stay".
As you pointed out we are not a full service hotel, but do provide a spotlessly clean, centrally located, boutique hotel with large and well appointed rooms for our guests comfort. The mirador or (roof top patio) is one of the favorite places our guests enjoy, with its views of the lake and city, whether it be dining, reading, surfing the net, or having a cocktail in the shade of the gazebo surrounded by many lovely plants and flowers.

We had a wonderful time in Chapala in late June and loved El Pequeno Hotel. We were on the second floor in the back. Lynn is very welcoming and helpful and I think we chatted with her just about every day we were there. She even brought us home-made cake one day! The hotel is small, with just four rooms so we had a chance to meet our neighbors, as well. A very comfortable and happy stay in a beautiful town. The Lakeside area gets a lot of well-deserved attention, but I really enjoyed the town of Chapala. Ajijic is pretty but a lilttle expensive because of all the North American expats. Chapala is a truly Mexican town and fun to explore. Both the town and the hotel highly recommended.

Room Tip: We stayed in Room 4, top floor in the back. It was probably a little quieter than some of the other...

Thanks for that nice review of our hotel. We offer a very welcoming atmosphere for all our visitors, and try to be as helpful as possible to the guests who are discovering the area for either the first time or returning for multiple stays with us. The hotel is small (El Pequeno Hotel = The small hotel) and friendly, with offering a shared kitchen our guests have the opportunity to create meals together, dine together, and many times this materializes into life time friendships, and some guests even end up planning their next vacation with their new found friends from the hotel. Hopefully many others will come to discover the differences between Ajijic and Chapala and the many wonderful things the area and our hotel have to offer them.

We recently returned from a ten day stay at El Pequeno Hotel. The location could hardly have been better. Our room was well laid out, comfortable, spotless and beautifully decorated. We felt as though most all our needs had been anticipated. Lynn was a perfect host--helpful and knowledgeable, friendly, available, and most of all, welcoming and truly helped us feel right at home. We wholeheartedly agree with one of the other reviews: it was like staying with friends!

Room Tip: Room #4, second floor, back might be a little quieter than our front room, but then we liked the vie...

Thank you for the glowing review of our hotel. Being told the hotel "felt like home" is the greatest compliment you could give us.Thank you for that. The location as you mentioned is very central and convenient to all services as many of our guests have indicated, and a car here is not necessary. Lynne prides herself on the cleanliness of the hotel and enjoys making it feel like home for all our guests.

In the downtown of Chapala I found a most comfortable and restufl refuge when I stepped in El Pequeno Hotel. The owner, Lynn, had helful information throughout my stay. While most buy, in that she does all the upkeep alone, she always took time to answer questions and chat for a few minutes. Lynn and her husband have worked magic with this once-dilapidated grand old home. The building dates back to Chapala's grand days as a destination resort. This home was reclaimed and reborn under their vision. Seeing the 'Before' photos on the made even more grateful for my lovely room. It is the coziest room in the city.
It is my pleasure to add my appreciation and recommendation for the El Pequeno. This hotel is slowly building a strong and deservedly so, reputatation. The room are large and comfortable, and the service is excellent.

Thank you for responding with such a nice review of our hotel. We try to help all our guests feel comfortable in our little piece of paradise, and welcome newcomers to the area. We are glad to answer questions and make recommendations for local services and attractions, again, making the visitor feel comfortable in their new surroundings, and pointing them in the right directions for their own discovery of what the lake and city have to offer.

This little hotel was perfect! So clean, comfy bed, beautiful Mexican decor, and a great location within walking distance to everything. It was so comforting to have Lynne and Murray there to answer my many questions - it was like staying with friends! I would have enjoyed a tv some evenings, but on the other hand it was a good opportunity to do a lot of reading. Perfect place for someone like myself travelling alone, I always felt safe. I feel i had a true "Mexican" experience in my month there.

So nice to here that single women traveling alone can feel secure here in our little hotel. Being across from the police station helps a lot with this feeling. Hard to say if the most compliments we get are about the beds or the location, but thanks for mentioning them in a wonderful review.
