Very relaxing

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 24 Feb 2014
Me and my partner took our first break away together in 5 years, we wanted somewhere peaceful and relaxing to unwind. We hired the pool and steam room on two occasions in our 4 night stay, it was amazing! The rest if the time we relaxed in our lodge and dipped in and out of the "hot tub" at 37-40 degrees in temperature it put a smile in our face every time we got in :) we had the tarr lodge with a lovely view of the woodland and the sound of a lil steam running down only wished we could of stayed longer! - Exeter inn steaks 10/10 - Thornes butchers, in Wiveliscombe steak pies 10/10. Can't wait to visit again!

We stayed in lodge 5 for a 7 night break and it really was just that, the lodge is cosy, comfortable and has everything you need the surrounding area is gorgeous for walking and the local pun The Rock Inn was a stroll away serving fantastic food, even my fussy eating children came away satisfied!
On site there is a private pool/steam/sauna that you book for your own use, there is a charge but worth it.

A car is a must as the local supermarket is in the next village and there are many places to visit, we highly recommend tarr steps on the ex moor national park there is a circular walk and a quant little pub serving lots of great food and snacks.

We are already talking about when we could book another stay...all 5 of us including a 15/10 and 7 year old didn't want to leave!

A big thanks to exmoor gate owners.

We visited Exmoor Gate Lodges from Monday to Friday last week, it was fabulous! Very relaxing and set within the beautiful Somerset Countryside. Gary and Diane could not have been more accommodating, they were there to meet us on arrival and explained everything we needed to know. The lodge was comfortable and warm, with all the facilities we needed. The bathroom was very modern and it was great to have a DVD player with the TV. The hot tub was wonderful and very clean. We spent two hours in the private swimming pool (small fee payable but well worth it) with a choice of either sauna or steam room, again this was very clean and well managed.
Just down the road is a super Gastropub called The Rock Inn, which is well worth a visit. Wivelscoombe is also a lovely village with a local supermarket and excellent Somerset cream teas. We are returning in June for the Iron Man 70.3 event and can't wait to stay at the lodge again. Thank you Gary and Diane for a great, relaxing break.

Room tip: Don't forget your £1 coins for the electricity meter.

My fiancée and I recently returned from a weekend away at these lodges and we have had a wonderful time.
On arrival we were greeted by Gary who escorted us to our lodge, the Liscombe. He was very helpful and thorough in explaining how the hot tub, electric and heating all worked. He also told us about the additional facilities at the complex, i.e the games rooms with pool table, table football, air hockey tablet and TV which shows all the premiership matches. He also advised of the gym and leisure facilities which hosts a swimming pool, sauna and steam room. He also explained that you can privately hire the leisure facility for a small fee where you can have the use of the swimming pool and either the sauna or steam room for 2 hours. Gary also gave some local information regarding shops and pubs and also the local Indian take away where you can order and they deliver to the car park.
The lodge itself was very clean, well equipped and very comfortable. We were told all lodges had just been given a new bathroom and the kitchens are scheduled for a face lift in 2015, however I personal thought the kitchen was perfectly acceptable as it currently is. The design of the lodge was lovely, on 2 levels with the master bedroom up stairs. The bathroom downstairs and open plan lounge and kitchen area.
The outside areas of the lodge were spacious and again well equipped with seating and table, on the balcony at the front and a patio area at the back with the hot tub. The hot tub was superb a great size and situated in such a way that it is completely private from other lodges and guests.
In summary this is a fantastic place to stay for a couples and I'm sure families alike, the accommodation is wonderful and the owners are very friendly and helpful, we will definitely be returning in the future.
Thank you Gary and Diane for a fab stay!

Room tip: Most lodges have a hot tub but some do not - If you have trouble walking then requesting one nearer reception would be recommended as there is a slight incline, however you are able to drive to the lodge to unload and load the car

I booked these lodges for my partner and I as a last minute suprise break 9th -12th November! It was absolutely perfect from the start! I can not thank Diane and Gary enough for the lovely welcome we had - we felt like we had knownt hem ages! We stayed in Honeymead lodge for 3 nights of total bliss!! We didnt get there until late (we phoned beforehand) - but Gary greeted us as if it was no trouble at all! Although it was dark Gary showed us how to work everything and helped us settle into our lodge - even going back to their house to change our notes for pound coins as we only had 3 on us!! The lodge was beautiful with everything you could possibly need - and a hot tub!! Which was amazing!! We went for a walk around the next day, met Diane who was lovely and told us all the local info - completely honest and upfront about the pub (new owners a bit hit and miss) which we really appreciated! We went for a walk towards the pub through the tiny beautiful village and then bumped into a lovely old lady who invited us in for a cup of tea and a chat about the area!! We booked the health suite for a few hours the one day - just what we needed!! Although my partner did comment that she would have liked both sauna and steam room - but thats probably being greedy! The pool was gorgeous - especially with all the lights out and the mood lighting on! We chose the sauna and it was fab! Lovely facilities! My partner is into the rugby and there was a huge tv in the games room so she could watch the match! Absolutely fantastic facilities!! They also accept dogs which is fantastic - would definately take ours next time! We had a perfect weekend - really cannot thank you both enough!! We cannot wait to come back and have recommended it to everyone we know! Rachel and Hannah :) x

Room tip: They are all fab!
