I can imagine in summer this place is heaving but in winter a bit slow! The portions were good value and the service fast and friendly. Nothing bad to say about this, we enjoyed our meal and would like to come back in summer when I'm sure it's probably Plan A!

Just a bowl of chips and a few drinks late afternoon. Nice character place. Warm fire. Was a bit confusing when we came in, no-one behind the counter, and a few people sitting around a table - who just watched us. Then a woman stood up and said hello and we still weren't sure whether they were serving or guests. A greeting and a 'may I help you' would have been useful. Pleasant sitting by the fire.

Probably worth a 3 1/2 rating. The food was good but not great. Did like the way the lamb was cooked - rare. Service was also good overall but a little offhand. Considering the place was almost empty at 7.30 pm on a Monday evening this was a little surprising. I think what really lets the place down though is the dated furniture and furnishings - very 80s inspired and did nothing to add ambience. All in all not great value for money but not a terrible option either given there are limited options in Pohara.

We came here after being turned away by another restaurant and were welcomed with a smile. service was great and food perfect for 4 hungry men off a boat. Would go back in a blink.

Good food, but a little unimaginative. I had a steak which was quite tough and gristly, and came with an over abundance of cherry tomatoes: The blue cod fish with curry was a little bland in flavour, and the fish didn't taste that fresh. The prices were, I think, a little steep for the quality of food provided. Setting is nice and spacious, over all an average nights meal with reasonable service.
I think there are other restaurants/Cafe's in the area that would provide better value for money, but perhaps not with an outside atmosphere.

Thank you for your review. We try to create a menu with a variety of dishes to choose from and our menu changes with the seasons. Your steak should never be tough. Please don't be afraid to send a meal back if its not up to standard. Different cuts of meat have different amounts of fat and ribeye is more marbled than other steaks, this adds to its flavour. The meal comes with mini roasted potatoes, fresh cherry tomatoes, roasted field mushrooms and our local Meadowcroft goat's cheese. We prefer to put more on the plate than less and perhaps you were given too many cherry tomatoes. With any curry dish we like to go middle-of-the-road, having said that we do have a Cajun Chicken Burger on our menu that is "hot and spicy" ($19.50). We would have been happy to spice your meal up some more for you had we known. Please feel free to ask if you want a meal to be modified for your palette as we're more than happy to accommodate. We're glad you enjoyed dining in our garden area, it's a great place to have a drink or a meal on a warm summers evening. We're still working on our garden dining area; adding more trees, umbrellas and garden art. Hopefully next time your in the Bay you'll come back and dine with us again.
