“part of the family”
Reviewed 14 July 2014

my wife and I stayed here for two nights recently, also at the start of a walking holiday. the owners, Robert and his family could not have made us more welcome. we were fortunate to be staying on the night that the German and French football teams met each other in the world cup, which contributed to a real party atmosphere where the locals also made us feel like 'one of them'.
clean, comfortable, great food and supremely welcoming, set in a charming village with stunning surrounding scenery. we loved it and will definitely go back. highly recommended.

We stayed at the Fleur des Alpes for two nights at the beginning of a walking holiday that would take us along the Roya Valley to the sea. We could not have had a better start into our holiday!

They only have a few rooms, which are regularly spaced, maybe more than you would expect in such a small hotel, and very nicely decorated in different colour schemes. The bathrooms are small and the fittings in some of the rooms are old, but serviceable and clean. The furnishings were basic, as you would expect, but we had everything we needed and a TV too. At least one of the rooms has an 'open' bathroom (no ceiling, curtain). If you have a problem with that kind of thing, request a room with a enclosed one.

The hotel guests have their meals in a room at the back of the house overlooking the river. The room has a certain conservatory feeling to it, as it's all windows and brightly painted, which makes it very light. Breakfast is the (continental) usual, but you should absolutely have lunch or dinner at the hotel, as your hostess Laurence is an inspired cook. Nowhere better to taste the local specialties (and the very drinkeable housewine)!
Both Laurence and her husband Roby are very friendly and helpful people and will do their utmost to make sure their guests are comfortable.

La Brigue in itself is a gem, a quaint, very picturesque little town and well worthwhile the detour from the main road. Its position means you can get away from the incessant traffic between Ventimiglia and the Col de Tende and it makes it a great base for walking holidays in the area. We liked it best, with Saorge being the runner-up, of all the little towns in the valley. It's got a little grocery store and a bakery, there's a bar and a tabac as well on the town square, and a Pizzeria.
