Le Mirval is an unpretentious hotel in a great location providing very good (but not exceptional) service, food and accommodation. The room was a good size overlooking the front where the stream rushes by under an attractive stone bridge. It is a short walk by a back street into fascinating old town of La Brigue which had more about it than I expected as well as the fantastic surrounding countryside. The fittings in the bathroom were a little outdated and there was no shower curtain over the bath which meant you had to be careful not to soak the room (the bath would be a bit too small for many men). All-in-all though is was good.

The food was served in a pleasant dining area overlooking the front of the hotel and the countryside. Portions were good and the food was generally tasty and pleasing - particularly the soup of the day!

The hotel is a lovely old building standing in a lovely garden beside a river. We stayed during a walking holiday and the surrounding area offers great walking opportunities. The village of Le Brigue is pretty too. However our hotel room was just big enough, we had a both and no shower, everything was clean. I found the bed very soft and uncomfortable.

The food is ok but the menu doesn't change. There is plenty of it!! We had two packed lunches provided by the hotel, they were very average indeed - 'kit form' - a lump of French bread, cheese, salami (of sorts), unripe tomato, but no knife to make it all into a sandwich!! No drink either.

This is a family run hotel and it would have been lovely to have received a more friendly welcome. On occasions 'service with a smile' was distinctly lacking!! We also received some very good service at times during our stay.

Room Tip: The rooms at the front have a balcony

Ever since our first visit to Le Mirval in beautiful La Brigue we have been longing to return - this year we spent an all-too-brief couple of nights in this charming spot. We had a very spacious, bright, double aspect room which has been comfortably re-furbished in pleasant light colours, and was all spotlessly clean. We enjoyed two excellent dinners in their very attractive conservatory restaurant overlooking the stream, the food is extremely good, traditional French/Italian cuisine and great value (we were staying half-board).

It is true as others have said that the breakfasts are a bit limited, some fresh fruit was provided for me on request, but a selection of fruits, and savouries such as cheese, ham and eggs would be a welcome addition to satisfy mountain air appettites! They did have some delicious yoghourt and home-baked pastries, however.

Our main reason for choosing to come to La Brigue is that it is still (just) accessible by train - it is a short walk (6-7 mins) from the railway station on the Nice to Tende line which continues into Italy, via Cuneo, to Turin: please note, however, that this line has been under threat of closure - it is still open for now, thankfully! The tourist office in La Brigue were very helpful with timetables etc, as well as information on local walks. We hope to return again very soon.

Mediocre at best. The hotel room was clean and that is about the best thing I can say about it. The room did have a television which we did not watch. There is internet in the downstairs lobby.

Dinner was good with a choice of entrees. Included in the room was one menu, however, for an additional $8.00 you could get the better menu. It was worth the additional payment. The young women who took the dinner orders were friendly and very nice.

The woman (who I believe owns the place) was abrupt in all of our interactions with her.

Breakfast was very basic--bread, yogurt, coffee. Actually, it looked pathetic to me because I was going to spend the day hiking and could use something more substantial.

We were there for 2 nights because we were hiking the area. After the second night, we purchased two lunches to take as we hiked to the next town. Since we were not going to eat the canned tuna and the small piece of meat that were in the lunch, we returned them to the hotel after being told that there was cheese and bread in the lunch already. After hiking for about 4 or 5 hours, we decided to eat the bread and cheese for some energy. To our surprise, the cheese was the rind of the cheese and was old and stale. We had trouble cutting it with the knife we carry. The bread was a roll. There was a small piece of fruit and a pre-packaged type of pie.

This hotel is the only game in town if you want to hike in this area. You have no choice but to stay here. I was glad we were not there any longer than we had booked.

We stayed for 5 nights on a walking holiday in Mercantour Park. The management and staff were always friendly and helpful and the half-board dinners were great - good local food and plenty of it. Only criticism would be the fairly basic breakfast - very French with only croissant and bread with no ham, cheese etc.

we very much enjoyed our stay, also as part of a walking holiday, for three nights. Had a lovely front-facing room with a balcony and a good shower over the bath (although I do feel it is shame that hoteliers in France feel the need to "modernise" their rooms, somehow losing some of the old traditional feel of being in a French hotel.) The welcome could have been a little warmer on arrival we felt, but it did get better from there and we did a great day's excursion with Sebastien, the owner's son, in his jeep, and he was just such a great source of information. The waiting staff were wonderful. We thought the quality of the food was excellent, and whilst the breakfast was a little sparse, I do understand that this is how it is in France, but a little fruit would have been nice! also would be much better to serve it in the sunny restaurant at the front rather than in the curtained dark breakfast room! La Brigue itself is like going back in time, quaint narrow little lanes, and a very relaxed and rural feel.

Stayed here for two nights as part of a walking holiday. The location of the hotel is lovely and has a lovely garden area to look out over the mountains and the river. For a two star hotel the rooms re spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The evening meals were great every night and the restaurant was always busy. Two minutes from the local square in a pretty little village. The breakfast reall was poor however. Nice bread and jam but my much more. On the second day we went along to the local shop which is open from 7.30 for some chocolate croissants and fruit and yoghurt. Would recommend this option if you have a long walk ahead. The staff were very helpful though and there was wifi connection in the downstairs lounge and intermittently in the bedrooms.very good for a two star hotel.
