This was a gorgeous hotel, it really had more character than I was expecting from a chain. Everything was perfect with the rooms, our tv was bust but the moment they heard the staff moved us to a nicer room where it did work and couldn't do enough for us.
Food was excellent, bar staff wonderful, front desk excellent.
There was only one little niggle though, that was that if you are a guest going to the swimming pool/ hot tub, you pretty much have to find your own way in - the staff working in the gym/pool area were exceedingly unhelpful and spent all their time talking to regulars about their training regime and couldn't spare 1 minute to help us find our way around.
Overall though, an excellent stay.

What a hotel, Bernice on reception was a trainee with a smile nothing to much trouble and very chatty for a young lady Asset to the organisation without a doubt.

Room fantastic, great view over the grounds and very clean and quiet.

Evening meal, served by a very helpful young lady named Liz , what service, a smile a laugh and always totally professional , a great member of the team.

Gym fully fitted with the right equipment and very clean

Breakfast , fantastic

This hotel is a jewel in the IHG crown, a must stay for what ever reason

Me and my parnter did enjoy our stay in room 122
Pros:
- A lovely good size room for a standard room, very spacious.
- Having air con was really good as we both feel the heat a lot.
- The bathroom was a nice size and the powerful shower was lovely.
- The staff were lovely and made us feel welcome at the reception.
- Being able to use the gym, spa and swimming pool for free was a bonus, how ever were didn't bring swim wear so we wasn't able to enjoy that luxury, gutted.
- A cute little garden view with the rabbits and birds.
Cons:
- The room was near the road and train track by the sounds of it as we heard the cars and trains go by most of day and night.
- Rooms a little out dated
- Bed wasn't comfortable at all
- The cleanliness of the room was quite poor. The skirting boards was very dusty. Some dust on top of the bed side lamps and on the side tables. Being a housekeeper myself in a 4 star hotel, knowing rooms can get dusty quite quick, if that was done properly and or checked before arrival if that room hadnt been used for a few days the room wouldn't of been as dusty as it was.
- I also notice some pink bits around the bath which is body fat. I'm not sure if it's not been cleaned and washed off properly or it's stained but some bleach would help that come off when cleaning that departure.
- no shops close by to get nibbles if needed.

However, putting that aside we did enjoy the stay together, it was nice to get away for a few day.

We have stayed a few times now at this Holiday Inn and I really suggest the rest and relaxation package. We meet friends here so no one has to be the host and to get your meal, bottle of wine, room and breakfast in one package all in one is great [price was really good too]. Outside of that staff are really friendly and can't do enough for you. Mel at dinner really looked after us and was great throughout the night [thanks Mel].

So in summary, a great hotel, staff and package and late check out was a bonus as well

Thanks all......

Stayed here the last two nights
Pros: plenty of parking, decent bar and breakfast and nice staff. Powerful shower.
Cons: Room 122 was spacious but stains on the carpet, side base of bed and scuffed paintwork. Bathroom outdated. Rooms need a refurb. Used room service breakfast menu which wasn't replaced the next day to enable us to use it again so we didn't have breakfast and upon returning to our room after we had been out all day and the room cleaned, there was a hair across the toilet seat.
The meal in the restaurant for starters and dessert was nice but the Cottage pie was inedible due to lumps of mincemeat which was obviously poor quality. I have known my friend for years and this is the first time she has returned food. Staff kindly removed this from our bill. I asked for my duck to be well done and it came out red and pink as I am not too fussed either way I never sent it back but clearly the instructions weren't taken into account but the wilted greens turned out to be shredded savoy cabbage. Not really what the menu stated.
Upon check out asked if all Ok, I don't think this is the time nor place to air any grievances. However, if a comments card had been available this would have been actioned accordingly.
I am a IHG Ambassador Gold Elite member and have stayed at many Holiday Inns especially in this country. This is the first time I have felt disappointed enough to write a less than good review of this type of hotel.

We stayed here the night before the Colchester half marathon!! Reception girls were FAB! Extremely helpful and very very attentive!

We used the leisure facilities as a wind down and a a bit of relaxation time for before the big race the following morning. Pool was lovely, jacuzzi was fab and the steam room was good!! Everyone was extremely friendly and we felt very comfortable!

Restaurant was also lovely, again the staff were very efficient, food was great and nothing was too much! I had to be at Colchester stadium for 8am and it was vital i had a good breakfast prior my run, we spoke to the restaurant staff and they opened early just for me so i could have a decent breakfast before the run...... Now if that isn't amazing service then what is!!!!

We stayed in an executive room which was spotless and very comfortable!!!

We have stayed in many a Holiday Inn and this is by far in our top 3! Even though we only live 30 miles away we cant wait to go back!!! Keep up the good work everyone!!!!!

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the train tracks!

I am very impressed with the customer service at this hotel. Staff went out of their way to be helpful. Very pleasant room with garden view and good quality gym and swimming pool. The dinner was very good and able to cater for dairy allergy with no fuss. Coffee in the lobby is very good.

Room Tip: Ask for a garden facing room.
