My wife and I have traveled to the Riviera Maya several times, over several years. We have stayed at various all inclusives and this was by far the best for us. I don't want to just repeat what everyone else has said, but there is not a lot more insight that I can provide. Grounds were beautiful and well kept, SSS puts a great deal of focus on how the property looks and it shows. Nightly entertainment was pretty good, we really only watched the circus show, and it was pretty good. Casino night was fun and interesting. Overall nightlife is not that terribly exciting at this resort, which was perfectly fine with my wife and I. Service at all the restaurants and at the pool was exceptional. We stayed in room 4410 and had no issue with any smell or sounds of generators. The rooms were very humid and did not really cool off much until about 5:00 am, but I think this is more of the area than the hotel. It was hot and humid everywhere....Really not anything to worry about. We did not have any issues with bugs or mosquitos as I have read from some reviews. Would like to hear more music by the pools, it seems to liven up the mood when it is played. I would like to personally thank Cesar for his attention to detail and the job he does managing all of the bars. He was able to find the Oklahoma University football game on the satellite, so I could watch and cheer on my home team.

The rooms were exactly what we expected from reading the reviews on tripadvisor. No surprises, which is a welcomed attribute when on vacation.

The restaurants were very good. We liked the Himitsu the best, even though we did not reserve a place for the hibachi, it was still very good food.

Gym was much better than we had anticipated. We have stayed at Secrets Capri before and their gym area left a lot to be desired. The gym at SSS was well equipped with aerobic machines, free weights and some weight machines. Would be nicer if the gym overlooked the ocean, but that is getting pretty picky....

Beach is great, water on the beach is not great. We are beach people, and the beach and the rocks in the water did not bother us at all. If you are wanting to play in the waves and swim in the ocean, this is not very easily accomplished here. You can walk a few minutes up the beach and it does get better.

15 minutes of internet time was okay, a little hokey, but none the less it did the trick.

We used cancun valet for a private transfer to the hotel and then back to the airport after our vacation, and it was perfect. No waiting and no worrying. We were at the hotel within an hour after landing.

We went on an excursion to Selvatica. Would definitely recommend this to anyone. They have vans that will pick you up at the hotel. We were picked up at 8:20 am and returned by 2:00 pm. We did zip lining, ropes course, drove the polaris RAZR's and swam in a cenote, had a great lunch and then back to the hotel. One of the best excursions ever.

Relax and enjoy your trip, this is a great place....

Multiple trips to Mexico, this was one of the best! Lots of people complained about pants to dinner, etc....if you read the information about the resort before you left, you should not have been surprised when they turned you away at the restaurants. The rooms were great. I believe this is an older property that has been updated fairly well. I knew going in to the vacation that the beach was not the best, therefore, I was not disappointed when I got there and the beach was not that great. I have ZERO major complaints.....everything was great!!! Two very minor complaints: 1.) the bench at the end of the bed is a killer on your toes in the middle of the night, we must have stubbed our toes 10 times over the course of the week. 2.) at noon each day the pool bar hands out these novelty drinks in coconuts or pineapples. If you want a drink that is NOT one of these you can forget it!!! No big deal, just plan ahead and get your drink 15 minutes to noon or 15 minutes after noon. My suggestion for improvement would be to hand those out from a tiki mobile cart poolside.

We tried it again and loved every minute of it! We just returned yesterday from this resort and we were at the resort from Sept. 10 - Sept 17. This is our second time at this resort and it was just as amazing as the first trip. I cannot say enough about the service we received at this resort! The bar tenders and waiters are beyond superb and I cannot honestly say that we ever receive service like this in the States. You must ask for Adrian or Luis in the World Cafe (although I feel confident that all the waiters will treat you like royalty)! We had salmon at the French restaurant 2 times! It was amazing and I usually do not like salmon!

This resort is not perfect but tell me when you find one that is. There was one day when our refrigerator was not re-stocked. We could have been upset but we called room service and within 10 minutes, we had whatever we wanted. (after the fact, we found out that our "do not disturb" sign was on our door when they came earlier in the day so that was our fault).

For those of you who want to complain about bugs, rain, ocean smells.....get over it. This is a beautiful tropical paradise and you will have this at times. I love this resort and love the staff even more. I hope to be able to go again next year......

Excellent resort. Very clean, well kept, and the staff were very friendly. No need to take the 2 hour bus ride and "adventure" from the air port. If you're looking for a great resort, less than 15 minutes from the airport - pack your bags - your sunscreen, flip flops and enjoy!

My boyfriend and I just returned home from a week vacation at the SSS. It was a beautiful resort and we had a great time. The staff was great, very helpful and accommodating. There was always something going on during the day and at night. The drinks were amazing and made with good quality alcohol. There were 8 different restaurants and we tried all but two. We enjoyed the food at most places but especially enjoyed the Mediterranean, French, and Japanese restaurants. We did two excursions while we were there and our favorite was the tour with Captain Quickie. We really enjoyed this hotel and plan to go back in april! We met a lot of great people while we were there and had a great time relaxing!

We just returned from SS after a 7 night stay. It only rained twice on us. We had requested a ground level room but that didn't happen. Adrian (very nice) tried to move us to 3 different rooms but all 3 smelled like mold or mildew so we just stayed on the 4th floor. Maid service was just OK. One day they didn't leave us soap so I had to call about that. They forgot to fill up our mini bar one day as well. It was our 15th wedding anniversary. We did get the fruit and wine in our room upon arrival but found out later that everyone else we met had rose pedals on their bed but we did not have that on our bed. Food was good and service was good as well. A couple of the restaurants we felt were a little slow since it was only 50% full. I think they were understaffed last week for whatever reason. MEN - PACK LONG PANTS! They were VERY snippy with my husband at the Japanese restaurant since we tried to walk in and he had very nice dress shorts on but she made him go back to room and change to pants which made us late for our reservation. She was a bit snippy with him. Avalino was wonderful and so was Oscar as far as taking care of things. Felipe at the pool area was wonderful! He was constantly walking around asking us if we needed anything! Very sweet man. Thomas and Luize at breakfast and lunch were both wonderful! Water was brown coming out of jacuzzi so I did not use it. Massages were a bit expensive too! The "resort credit" means nothing so do not get your hopes up about that! You can only use $20, $30, or $40 of it for massages depending on what you want to spend. SEAN was very sweet and kind from Spa. He would stop and tell us each day the specials at the Spa. All and all it was a good trip though. This was our 5th trip to Mexico but first time at Secrets Silversands.

Room Tip: Swim up Suites were nice but 3 rooms smelled like mold and mildew, we viewed them in Buildings 1, 2...

We were booked since April to go to Punta Cana but cancelled at the last minute because of Tropical Storm Maria. We then called Apple Vacations and were able to book SSS for the same time frame, leaving the next morning (9-10-11). This was a trip to celebrate our 2nd anniversary. We arrived early and our room was not ready, which we expected. Our room was finally ready around 3pm (we had arrived there around 1130a) and it took forever for our suitcases to arrive. We knew basically nothing about the hotel, we did upgrade to preferred club using our resort credit and also inquired about the complimentary anniversary package. We never got "upgraded mini bar" - not sure what that was all about in the ad. The room itself was large and clean but did have a funk water smell from time to time.

This is our 3rd trip to Riveria Maya - we had stayed at the El Dorado properties before (Royale and Maroma). Royale is much larger. We enjoyed some of the aspects of the smaller property of Secrets. We felt the workers taking drink orders did a great job. We wish there was a 2nd swim up bar. Infinity pool is beautful. Beach was a big disappointment. The food was fine, though we felt El Dorado did a better job overall. Almost all servers and workers we encountered were very polite and did a great job. Just one hostess at the Italian restaurant that was outright rude. We did miss seeing a "Drink menu" at the bars for ideas, though they did "feature" one drink each day in the flyer. The Miami Vice was very good consistently while the Mudslides were all over the place! One thing we didn't like is there were no designated smoking areas and we encountered many smoking at the bars and by the pools. Overall, we were pleased considering it was a last minute trip.
