We traveled to the resort with a group of 30 Nebraskans. This resort was near perfect for what our group needed. Drinks were excellent, pool was great, and the outside of the resort was outstanding. If you are looking for a wild, typical crazy mexico resort then this would be the place. Not to say you couldn't find peace and relaxation there; we just chose to take full advantage of the all inclusive drinks. The pool bar bartenders were always busy but still managed to create a fun atmosphere. Favorite pool bartender was Able, the tall 19 year old boxer we nicknamed "El Diablo". Entertainment games were provided by a resort crew which were a total blast. Myself and my game partner were deemed the "Sexy Sweaters". Kandy created a lot of memories for the Nebraskans, even came to wish us a safe trip back home! The only downside i could say about this resort is possibly the food. Quality was good, just selection was a little bleak. Also, most of the restaurants are full at night and the wait can be a pain. No one took future reservations except for the Hibachi grill. I would come here again in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: Our room looked into a small patch of jungle. I would take this over looking at a pool or ocean any...

I have put off writing this review for a few days so things would be in a little better perspective. For those who like to know a little about the reviewers' style of travel, I can say that we are a middle aged couple who travels to the Riviera Maya area twice a year since 2005. We like to do a 5-7 night value trip in the summer, sometimes AI, sometimes not. We look for the best bang for our dollar. The second trip we take is usually in January. We prefer adult only, some luxury and lots of choices in food, activity and entertainment. That trip is usually 7-10 nights and is designed to be our escape from the winter. This is our second visit to this resort and third to an H10 hotel. I will break my review into sections so you can skip parts that don't interest you.

Getting there/check in. We arrived, got through immigration, hit. Green light and had a quick and well driven transfer with Canada Transfers making it to the resort by about 4:15. No line at check in, no cool cloth or welcome drink-just quick friendly efficiency. We had emailed our request to have the same room as last time or the same building with a dehumidifier. We also asked that we not be handed off to the timeshare guys. We got a room on the other side of the resort, but it had a king bed, ocean view and a cake for an anniversary celebration. They said the dehumidifier would be delivered, but it never came. I was given a Facebook fan tee shirt, we were left alone (no timeshare or up sell attempt) and we headed to our room.

Our room, 18303 was the second back from the ocean overlooking the Daisy pool area. It was cool and odor free with a king bed, keyed safe and plenty of storage room. The floor was tile and very slick, be careful! The shower temp was a bit tricky and the water pressure not very strong. The light switches for the bathroom is near the door which is a little inconvenient. Overall the room had what we needed and the view was nice. Our housekeeper did a good job and we had plenty of towels and bottled water. The electric stayed on through the night so the room was comfortable. We never called to get the dehumidifier as we didn't need it.

The beach- we are beach people. Most mornings right after breakfast we went to the beach and except for short walks, dips, pool activities like aerobics or water volleyball, grabbing a bite or hitting the banos, we stayed until early evening. The seagrass varied depending on the wave action. Water temp was about 88 and the sand was churned for the first 10-15 yards. There was some trash in the water, but no jet skis or other noise/smell issues. The tractor goes up and down the beach all day combing. There are some vendors who are not too annoying and the spa promoters and photographers are around early. Our waitress, Alba, was pleasant and funny and works way too hard in the grueling heat. Juan replaced her on her one day off and he was amazing as well. Both also work in the buffet restaurant during breakfast rush. The palapas are numerous and well spaced. The loungers are worn and some are cracked but there are a lot of them. They could use little tables or palapa shelves and hooks. Not expensive, but nice to have. Some of the palapas need re thatched, but they appear to be working on that. There are workers who even pick up cig butts each morning. I wish people would not leave that crap on the beaches. Most days we had yellow flags and the water was various shades of blue.

The pools-we took one for the team and spent the afternoon one day visiting each one of the four. All are clean and have water features and lights for evening. The temps were all barely refreshing, but it was hot! Lounges at the two activity pools were in need of re stretching and arranged very close to one another. Shade was at a premium. The Daisy pool had wicker like chairs and no loungers, the pool near the privilege area was less crowded with newer loungers and more shade. This pool is open to everyone.

Activities and evening entertainment- lots of participation for daily water aerobics and volleyball. World Cup was a big draw and they showed the games on the big screen at the theater-even took food and beer to fans. They had a terrific sax player two nights on the terrace. We watched the around the world dance show and the broadway show. Both were entertaining. Lots if energy by the animation team. We also played blackjack and listened to kareoke one night and enjoyed a live salsa band at the pool bar another night. I would say that the vast and breezy terrace is the most underused area of the resort. It would make a wonderful spot for nightly music and dancing. We watched the full moon rise over the ocean with the palm trees blowing in the foreground-absolutely magical!

Food- we ate are the buffet each morning and enjoyed it. If you don't try to eat everything each day, it doesn't get repetitive. I cannot imagine what else people would want. Lunch at Casa Del Mar includes fresh grilled fish and meats as well as made to order pasta and coconut helado. Lunch spots available all over the resort but are limited to burgers, hot dogs, fries, chips, watermelon etc. They do have a paella at the pool BBQ and a fairly varied buffet at the Seaside restaurant. We ate at the hibichi (Oriental) and the chef, Victor was talented and entertaining. The tables are too large though making his job difficult. They seat twenty at a time. No menu variations here. At the Blue Moon romantic restaurant the food is good and the service and presentation excellent. This restaurant is still in its infancy but it might be better billed as adult only rather than romantic as there are tables for groups as large as 6. The salmon appetizer and soups are so good. We are here three times, but the third was an arranged tasting if the new menu being unveiled at the Italian as soon as the kitchen is ready. The Executive Chef Allan Ramirez and his Sous Chef visited our table; kudos gentlemen! Well Done. Especially enjoyed the beef carpaccio and seared tuna. At Route 66 the American restaurant the servers and ambiance was a bit marred by a large family with several tired and cranky children. One child cried while another wheeled a stroller around the restaurant. The poor hostess and waiter did their best and kept a smile. Food was decent. Lived the little fry basket they served the fries in and they had Heinz ketchup! At the Italian we had our dinners prepared tableside. I enjoyed our meals there. Pasta was done perfectly Al dente and arribetta sauce had a nice bite. At the Mexican our server Jaime went over and above to make us a Mayan coffee. Gracias and Yum!

Customer service- Mr. Alejandro Franks and his team are fabulous! We had a small problem when we list our safe key the last night. Another guest turned it in and Yoshi and Security accompanied us to our room to make sure all was well. Mr. Frank met with us one afternoon so we were able to tell him how much improvement we saw from our last visit. Thanks Alejandro for everything!

Check out was simple and problem free. We were not Privilege and don't see the need for that for us. We had a wonderful and relaxing week and hope to return soon! Can't wait to experience the Chef Dinner with Chef Ramirez!

Just returned from 9 days at Ocean Coral & Turquesa resort (June 10-19). There are some good things about the resort and some things they can impove on. The good for me were: location. It is only about 15 mins from the airport so after about 9 hours travel this is a bonus. The beach is large and sand is powdery. You can walk to Puerto Morelos along the beach ( approx. 4 km). Lots of palapas and loungers and you don't have to hit the beach by 8:00 to get them. Rooms are nice and clean ( ours was anyway, in building 5 third floor). No bar at beach but didn't one as staff are constantly walking the beach anpd taking orders plus you are clise to pool bar or bar at grill restaurant when on the beach anyway. Grounds are well maintained. There are 4 pools:a quiet pool above the Privilege Club section of the beach, a pool where the pool bar is located and the drunks hang out, another pool next to the grill restaurant where many families hung out, and then a more child friendly pool where quieter families seem to hang out. Luckily there are a lot of bizarre people that travel to tropical climates and hang out around swimming pools because the beach was very peaceful. Some negatives for me were: sliw check despite only a few people checking in. They form several lines unnecessarily and although you may be in line someone can come along and get in a second line and just go ahead of you. No first cone first serve here. There is no reservation system for the restaurants (with the exception of the Japanese show tables which they begin taking reservations at the restaurant at 4:50 each day). I'd prefer reservations as it is easier to plan your evening as opposed to being paged when a table is available, especially if your pager is not working. The food is mediocre at the resort and the poorest quality of the 3 resirts we've been in Mexico. The Blue Moon restaurant was a bright spot and route 66 was pretty good as well but the Japanese restaurant was just okay for the show table and disappointing for regular menu. The Mexican restaurant was a big disappointment as well. Barely touched the entrees here as they were, for me and my wife, Taco Bell quality. For me though the biggest issue was inconsistency in service in the restaurants, sometimes not even been offered beverages, or only after 15 minutes. I've stayed at resorts where you could poor your own coffee and soft drinks and this place could benefit a lot from this set up. Entertainment I found weak with the exception of a saxophone player who played in the lobby a few times during our stay. If he played every night it would have been good but they didn't have regular musical performers. The shows at night, well, I tried to sit through a few but did not see the end of any. Overall, the resort was okay but I was not impressed enough to want to spend my money here again. Stayed at Bahia Principe Coba last year and could have stayed again this year for less than Ocean Coral but wanted to give it a try. Bahia Principe was a much better experience.

On our stay here we had a fun time until we realized one night our room had money missing. 150 pesos was missing and 100 dollars american money. We called guest services right away and they came to take our statement. When two of my friends went in the room before they got massages there was a maid and a security guard in our room and one thought that was odd to have the security guard in there while the maid was cleaning. That night our money was missing. Guest service also asked us if we had men's watches missing from our room because it had been reported also. But we never reported that. They told us to check in with them on the report the next day. We went back as told and they said the report hadn't come in yet. We called back that day and they still needed to interview another man. We were told to come in the next day so we did and the same thing. They are giving us the run around about how it's still not ready and some of our activities have been put on hold due to this. We are so unhappy with the way they are going about this and how they are dismissing this. The whole this is so sketchy and I would not recommend this resort to anyone.

The hotel was wonderful I would go back in a heartbeat! The hotel was gorgeous, the food was delicious, but best of all was the staff. They are what make the hotel 5 stars! Everyone always had a smile and welcomes you with open arms. The entertainment team did a wonderful job day in and day out! Especially Ivan Vazquez who gets to know the guests on a personal level and would do anything for them!

Overall, this was a great place to stay especially since it was our first time to Mexico. The staff was so friendly. I had read other reviews that stated that they were not and that was not the case at all. Jose at the front desk was fantastic, the photographer Carlos was terrific and I can not say enough about Gustavo who was the bar tender at all the pool bars. He was the kindest person I have met thus far. He remembered me everyday, my favorite drink and would see me coming from 400 yards away and have something waiting for me when I arrived as well as saw me on the day of my departure and knew I was leaving so he came to say goodbye. That is customer service!

The pros: Beautiful location, rooms are splendid, staff is kind and welcoming, no need for pesos (they except USD), pools are magnificent.

The cons:

Judith from H10 is overbearing even when you tell her no. She continues to call your room at 8am and search you out during your stay.

The open bathroom concept is very difficult for a family of 5.

Although the food is good for a person who enjoys trying new things, Ocean Coral is not set up for the picky eater (ages 6, 11, 14). Being that this resort states that it is geared towards families they made it very difficult for the youngsters to eat. Simple foods like chicken nuggets, hamburgers, and hot dogs would go a long way for these little guys.

Secondly, the dress code at the buffet is obscured. I get that there should be one for the fancy restaurants but not the family dining.

Third, if you want a tequila sunrise in the morning, you can't, they don't serve until after 10 am.

(In my opinion, there are way to many rules when it comes to family dining.)

Conclusion

All in all, I loved this place but I also have nothing else to compare it with in Mexico. If I was to come back with a family I am not sure this would be the stop. However, just me and my bride... I would absolutely make this my destination.

I have just landed back in the UK this morning and needed to write this straight away.. This resort is amazing !!!! Every single detail could not be faulted.. The rooms were spotless and well equipped, the reception staff Christian and Alejandro were wonderful. The food is absolutely Devine... Many different restaurants to chose from and all on unlimited dining this is not available at ANY other resort.. I feel I must mention Jesus in Route 66 what a wonderful man he is as are all of the staff.. I must say though my favourite that I had a soft
spot for was Eusabio and Alma in the lobby bar.. Wonderful people with lots of life and a pleasure to have met.. Extremely professional at their jobs, never let your glass be empty and Eusabio remembered your order, he made the best coffee martinis in the world. Tom and Gryselda are fab too they make you very welcome in the lobby bar.. I cannot thank the staff at this resort enough as they made my holiday a dream and I will be forever grateful to them.. Thank you Ocean and I will definitely be a returning guest I love you all x
