“Best Food EVER.”
Reviewed 25 August 2014

Bit late on this, stayed at the Azul March 2013 with my family. We had a swim out room (not adult section) and it was great for our son in the morning to be able to swim and we didn't have to move from our terrace. Small resort, loved that everything was close. Also appreciated that even at the buffet you could order a la carte meals. My son is picky and they were more than accommodating to us. All of the food was exceptional for an all inclusive. They advertise the food and I see why. My husband like the Mexican the best which was 20 ft from our room and we both liked the Italian so much we went back twice.
Also on the food, you did not need reservations for the restaurants so we had dinner in buffet in the daytime and restaurants in evening. Rooms were huge and clean but lots of little bugs on terrace since we were ground floor.
Not much nightlife but that was great for our needs. They did put on shows but they were in a small area which we liked a lot as it was cozy and intimate. Great entertainers.
There was one issue, when we arrived home I was covered in "bites" the next day and more the day after that. I contacted my travel agent who was great, very concerned and I also contacted the hotel. I did not receive any reply from the hotel but I did hear from Sunwing who wanted to know what they could do along with the agent. We did not find out what kind of bites I had but they WERE NOT bed bugs. Resort was very clean but I picked up something there or on the plane home.

Highly recommend this resort and would go back if the price was right but I'd book a room on a high floor to feel better about bugs!

I am always amazed when I read reviews of a hotel from people who stayed at exactly the same time and seem to have stayed at a different hotel. We booked via Thomson for 2 weeks and left 24 Aug.

The hotel is clean, and well maintained. Smelly? Its an ocean front hotel in a hot humid country. No smells in our buildiing (block 3).

From the maid (Francesca), the entertainment mgr (Luis), the barman at the pool bar (Mariano), even the taco lady at the Mexican restaurant (Dalia), the pottery painting man all provided friendly and personal service. In fact all the staff were amazingly friendly and smiling (and didnt expect tips despite what some people infer - but are much appreciated). Didn't wait long for service anywhere.

The restaurants were all very good with freshly cooked food. Its a real bonus not having to reserve and even as a family of 5 eating 730-830 we only once had to wait ? 15mins at the caribbean restaurant (you can sit at the bar and look at the ocean whilst awaiting the beeper - you are supposed to be on holiday, not running to a business schedule). The Chic restaurant (only restaurant you had to book and unfortunately adults only) was an amazing experience, lots of courses of intricate food and the chefs often came out with them . Only restaurant that disappointed was the Tapas as it was quite a long wait between the (many) courses - prob best without children. Or choose the courses rather than the set menu. Only Spoons wasnt air conditioned (but lots of big powerful fans), all felt comfortable to us.

The hotel location is an issue if you want to go out shopping or exploring as you need a taxi (all booked thr hotel and v expensive. If you are a family of 5 or more you will pay double for a minibus which was an eyewatering £110 to Cancun. Alternatively find another family (minbus can take 12 and talk to the concierge near reception and you can do it for £12 a head (with 9 of us). One trip to Cancun was enough for us - the shops all sell basically the same things or designer stuff that is the same as in the UK (and prob more expensive). No aggressive selling (which we gather is an issue in Playa del Carmen - same distance away but in South). You can do trips thru the hotel travel agents or via the Thomsons reps (they are all pretty expenive esp in a family but they all were actually good value (apart from the Dolphin photos OMG!). The hotel shop is also possibly the most expensive shop in the continent so take everything you need. esp Airbeds and balls/toys for the pool. There is no walkable alternative shop so they have in effect a monopoly, and hence the charges.

Pools were great. Warm, clean (maintained twice a day). There were a couple of weddings a day at the weekends but only once did it impact on us (small portion of family pool close off). Didnt hear any sig noise any night. No drunken parties. Plenty of beds but maybe could do with a few more sunshades. Aghast to see (mainly English) people reserving beds at 0530 in the morning (there's really no need to). The beach cabins were good (and had waiter service, as did all areas).

The beach is lovely but seaweed is an issue - but hey it's a beach on the ocean near a reef (and the water is q rough) - what do you guys all expect?? The beach is raked and cleared every day (and a mini tractor scoops it in the day occasionally but do you really want a tractor constantly going up and down all day?

Overall I'd recommend it. esp for families and people wanting a relaxed holiday. If you want alcohol, night-life and busy shopping you will be disappointed - go to Cancun.

Some of the reviews seem very harsh and it seems unfair to mark down for things outside of the hotels control (flights/seaweed/location). Been to plenty of hotels around the world and this is certainly one of the best ones. We'd certainly return.

Room Tip: Block 3 (family block) - most rooms can see ocean.

We stayed here for two weeks and loved the hotel.
The grounds ,rooms and restaurants were immaculate and the staff very helpful and friendly.
The best restaurant by far was Zavaz (the pool bar ) which served gourmet burgers at lunch and succulent steaks for dinner. Mariano ,the camarero in the pool bar was a true gent and made the most amazing "mud slides" !!! Ava our little one loved his chocolate milk drinks and he always made a fuss of us.
The Thomson excursions were quite pricey but,Chitzen Itza and Captain Hook were well worth it.We took a trip to Cancun by taxi (cost approx 60 pounds return) and make sure you agree the price first!!! We went to the La Isla shopping area and were disgusted to be ripped off in a shop called "Reef Cozumel " by a girl overcharging us for goods ,not issuing a receipt and then refusing to return our right change. This left a very sour taste in our mouths so be careful and ensure you always get a receipt.Another concern is that if paying by visa the amount does not appear on their machine screen so get your long receipt ! Otherwise an amazing country and worth a visit .
Thomson should really arrange a shuttle bus for guests to Cancun as standard.

Room Tip: Rooms with jacuzzi baths and balcony. We had a superior family room overlooking the beach.

We stayed at Sensatori for 2 weeks in August 2014 for our honeymoon.
From the moment we walked into the hotel the staff could not do enough to help us. We stayed in a swim up premium room with Jacuzzi and were asked to choose from a range of pillows and scents for our bed linen! The maids (ours was Guadeloupe) were very thorough and cleaned our room every morning and prepared our room in the evening by spraying our room with our chosen fragrance and preparing the pillows for bed time, leaving a bottle of water at each side of the bed.

The pools were amazing and each day there was a man with a snorkel thoroughly cleaning each of the pools. The service at the poolside was also brilliant and you didn't have to move for a drink as the waiters took care of that. There was a huge range of drinks to choose from including beers, cocktails, spirits and of course... tequila! (The strawberry daiquiris and frozen lemonades were yummy!) They had a range of pools to suit everyone, each with a swim up bar. The entertainment took place in a family pool (aqua aerobics was very good), then there was another large pool which was a bit quieter and then an adult only one where the entertainment team also held games.

The food was great. Spoon is a buffet style restaurant and we used it more when we needed to grab something quick (eg before an excursion or trip) it was good quality for a buffet (and breakfast) but we preferred to eat on the others in an evening where we chose from a menu as the quality was better. Even when you chose from a menu, each restaurant did also have bits you could choose from. Le Chique is an amazing experience! We loved the burgers in the Caribbean restaurant at lunch time! Also, paella from the beach BBQ at lunchtime was delicious! On the beach, there was even a trained worker with a Harris Hawk as a deterrent so the little scavenging birds stayed away while you were eating. The lucky hawk got to fly around the beach all afternoon! The beach and sea was full of seaweed (nothing that the hotel can stop!) however, they had a man scooping it up each day with a digger to keep it down.

This was an amazing hotel and made our honeymoon perfect! Very friendly staff and they did everything to make sure we had an enjoyable stay!

Thank you Azul Sensatori!

Room Tip: Swim up Jacuzzi rooms are amazing if you really want to treat yourself

I stayed at this hotel with my fiancé for 11 nights from the 10th august.

It is a stunning hotel, from the aromatherapy in reception to the jacuzzi in the bedroom it does exactly as it says on the tin..
"Sensatori"

The staff are constantly busy, cleaning, gardening and generally doing all they can to make your stay as memorable as possible! The waiters were amazing, friendly and attentive.. Shout out to Louis from the carribean! The bar staff are run off their feet, especially around the adult pool but have a constant smile on their faces and a new cocktail to try!

The entertainment team are great fun, there is plenty to do, but if you would rather lie by the pool or beach they dont mither you, they merely tell you to enjoy your day.. Shout out to STephanie!

The spa is a must do, it can be expensive but they do have some special offers to look out for. I had the best massage of my life in there, amazing! I would reccomend Augustine.

Food.. If i tell you i put on 4lbs that should be enough! Amazing. Le chique is a must! My favourite was the carribean but i am a seafood lover.. There is definitely something there for every palette.

The rooms are well designed and have fantastic ac! The beds are so comfortable..!

There is most definitely something for everyone. As a parent travelling without my children i could see there was plenty for them to do.. I would also recommend if you have younger children to request a ground floor room, these are poolside therefore great for afternoon naps.

I truly couldnt fault it! Please ignore complaints about the seaweed on the beach, yes, it is there but surely most adults know that this is a natural occurance? Another complaint i read was that restaurants closed one night a week.. I can understand that this may be an inconvenience to some, but when there are many others to choose from it is not a problem. Hotels of this nature tend to be in remote areas,if you want a party resort, go to cancun. I wonder if the couple that wrote the review i am referring to got the free candlelit dinner on the beach they told me they were angling for???

This trip has to be the best holiday we have ever been on. Not just because it was our honeymoon but because of the hotel and Thompson reps at the hotel. From start to finish this company could not do enough for you. They were helpful, polite and friendly for every minute we were there. I honestly felt like these people weren't being friendly for tips as they were like that with each other. Every time we stepped out the door there was someone always cleaning, or painting or fixing things all around. The place was immaculate all of the time. Their staff were always wishing you good morning as you walked past. The staff here couldn't do enough, I would say as long as you had a nice attitude back, they work very long hours and to be this friendly is unheard of in england. If you plan on eating after 7.30pm be prepared for a maximum of a 45 min wait however the restaurant give you a beeper so you can go away to the bar and come back when they buzz you. So you aren't waiting in a que (a few people were complaining about this at the hotel- which baffled me completely) 24/7 free room service was available along with one day you get the most amazing breakfast on your balcony all in with the all inclusive. Meals were gorgeous, they have several restaurants on site which cater for all (Italian, tapas, Mexican, Caribbean and a vernal buffet style all inclusive) during the day there is endless amounts of food. We stayed around the adults only pool which has a swim up pool, if you can't be bothered to do that there is someone who walks round that pool all day to bring you your drinks as well. Sun beds are always available! And we went the beginning of August for 2 weeks (busy season) the Thompson reps at the hotel couldn't do enough for you, and are always on your side. They will do their best to make sure your stay is exactly what you want. The one downside we had to our honeymoon was that Thompson expected us to pay and extra £75 to sit together on the plane. We tried to book online and it kept crashing. I feel when you pay all of this money to come away the least they could do is sit families and couples together with no extra charge. So for a 10hour flight myself and new husband weren't sat together. But as for the hotel and reps at the hotel "amazing". I have later found out a few of my friends have been here and they have the same views as myself. All of the other negative comments I have read on here before coming are from people who clearly love to complain to get something. But I can honestly say this place is beyond expectations. They have thought of everything and would recommend it to anyone. All rooms have air con and the air com is kept on throughout the day. They are cleaned within an inch of their lives everyday. Mini bar is filled everyday. And with it being our honeymoon we were welcome with a bottle of champagne, roses on the bed, a card from the hotel and a sign on our door. They do the same for anniversaries and birthdays. (See the small things that make a difference)

Room Tip: Free wifi is available from Thompson guests but in 2 specific areas, couples you would want to be i...
