First of all I would like to preface this and say that both my husband and I are in
hospitality management and are probably tougher critics than most, as we are trained to
observe many aspects including ambiance, staffing, customer service, food & beverage quality etc.
The resort stands tall in respect to exceptional service provided by the staff from the hosts, bellman, waiters/bartenders, spa personel etc. They are extemely friendly,
and accomodating. Example: When my husband asked a waiter by the pool "Do you think its possible..." the waiter said " Sir, anything is possible, your on vacation". I couldn't think of a better answer than that. It was so refreshing to have such wonderful attitudes from everyone, we couldn't have been more pleased with the service. In fact we blew through the "tip" money we brought for the week so fast and had to go to the
front desk to get more but after numerous attempts (they never had change either in $$ or pesos) managed to get some from the bellman, and when they ran out actually had the waiters make change for us. I hope the Mgmt. fixed this problem, they did apologize but we told them they shouldn't be apologizing to us but rather the staff that has been doing such a wonderful job, who knows how many people were trying to do the same thing?? Can't give the staff enough well deserved praise, THANK YOU ALL!
F&B absolutley top notch. The quality of not only the liquor but mixers were by far the
best we have had, Frozen Watermelon Mojitos with REAL watermelon, and garnished beautifully. The ala carte restaurants were great. The World Cafe had a smaller selection than most buffets but the quality of food was by far superior, I would much rather have quality than quantity. The set up wasn't the greatest and may present a problem when they are at full capacity but worked out "ok" during our stay. If there is such a thing as "too much service", heard quite a few quests complaining that when in the buffet area, their waitstaff would approach them to carry back their plate (even when they were still serving themselves), wouldn't have mentioned this but heard quite a few say that they didn't like that. Our waiter Luis was superb! The only complaint was in the evening the kids didn't really have a lot of choices that suited them but with room service available who cared. The pool grill area would benefit with a printed menu for people to look at.
BEACH: Not the greatest but any stretch, but we have traveled to the Puerto Morales area before and thats just what its like there. When I said this on a different travel site people went crazy. We live in FL so when I travel I want a beach nicer than
the one I see everyday. The beach has a large amount of seawead both in the ocean & dried up on the beach. We understand its because of the beautiful reef, but to me ruins the color of the sand and sticks to you when your in the water. The ocean floor is very rocky as well. They do have a machine that tries to rake it up but I find I don't spend as
much time @ the beach as I would like to because of it. This doesn't RUIN a vacation, just want to point out the facts so your not disappointed when you see it yourself.
ROOMS: With a family of 4, the room is a bit small, could use more drawer space, love the quality of the amenities, beds, linens & towels are of high quality. You CAN hear the person in the "toilet" when your sitting in the room. Also the walls/ceilings could have better soundproofing, can hear people on top of you as well as conversations in the hall and rooms next door to you. Also the block of rooms where we were you could hear the delivery trucks early in the am w/their deliveries, the other blocks of rooms would be better, ask for one away from the road. Marble floors VERY VERY slippery both in the rooms and hallways when wet, be careful please. I cannot stress this enough.
DECOR: The resort is somewhat of a minimalist decor almost Asian like. To us they could have done a bit better and have had less cement areas. Will be prettier as the foliage grows. The lighting is spectacular in the evening as well as wonderful music piped out of decorative rocks throughout the walkways which adds to the ambiance.
ENTERTAINMENT: They did a great job here as well, lots of varied activities for all ages. Could use a little improvment for the Tween/Teen age group but overall great job.
They could use a backup plan when it rains down by the entertainment area, as a couple of nights they had everything set up only to have a quick storm come in and dump rain on all the buffet food set up outside unprotected. Also when dining at the outside restaurants noticed one night all the guests carrying their plates to run under the one tiny area protected from the rain, they may have to invest in some sort of clear plastic covering over the ceilings.
POOLS: The infinity pool is divine! With the swim up bar overlooking the ocean its the place to be. They have a sports/activity pool they use throughout the day and a somewhat useless pool that takes up a large area with about 8 inches of water, for tiny
kiddies, saw only (1) child in it all week which brings up the senerio that the infinity pool is supposed to be for adults only but since older kids wouldn't be happy in the kiddie pool, and the sports pool is used a lot for activites, the kids will probably gravitate to the
"adults only" pool, which we saw some do already. What will the Mgmt's policy be when they are in the height of season, enforce it or not, this will be interesting to see..........
SHEER FUN: The beachfront SWING bar, THE BEST!!!
