If you would like a great experience take a class at the Little Mexican Cooking School. What fun. I learned so much about peppers. I am not afraid of them anymore. The class keeps you involved the whole time. You prep, cook, eat and enjoy. Well done..

“A fun, well-organized class”
Reviewed 31 March 2014

Limited to about a dozen students and efficiently organized, these classes are both fun and educational. Each class focuses on a specific region of Mexico, and the participants prepare and then eat a full meal. Good organization of good materials and good ingredients is vital for a cooking class to succeed -- and this one does! We'd register again if we returned to Puerto Morelos.

“The time of our lives!”
Reviewed 31 March 2014

If you are a foodie or just love Mexican food and want to learn more about it, this is a great way to spend a delightful and meaningful day. Chef Alfonso is a great teacher, passionate about his art and in love with the cuisine of his country. His English is excellent, so there is no communication problem. My two children (ages 15 and 18) and I had a marvelous time smelling, preparing and finally sampling a variety of dishes. The environment is bright, airy and beautiful, the kitchen well organized and comfortable and the pace relaxed but never tedious. The day begins with a welcome over coffee and pastries, a hands-on (and nose-on) introduction to a wide variety of chiles and their various forms, some roasting and prep over an open flame in a wide, elegant breezeway, followed by an opportunity to create salsas and learn the basics of tortillas. Then it's on to a well-appointed kitchen to prepare a number of dishes based on one of the many regional cuisines. There is a break for some snacks and beverages prepped by the lovely kitchen assistants, which provide an opportunity to also sample your earlier creations. Then it's back to the kitchen to finish preparing the various dishes, a chance to enjoy a beverage and cool breezes while the food cooks and the staff sets up beautiful tables out in the breezeway where you can sit in small groups and enjoy your plated and garnished meal served to you with love and more local drinks (both soft and hard). Don't forget to visit the gift shop for some of the ingredients or supplies that you will surely want to take home. Well worth every penny of the $110 US fee for four hours of delightful, engaging, food-channel worthy, cooking pleasure as well as snacks, drinks and a meal to remember. Plus you get a recipe book and your own hand-made official apron to take home.

“a chili education”
Reviewed 24 March 2014

Very good chef/teacher. Learned a lot about different chilies and how to make personalized salsa. Opportunity for hands on cooking. Great mid morning 'snack'. Full meal with drinks. Small and friendly group.
Had come here before. Last time also learned about native fruits. Previous menu was more interesting and challenging. Price has gone up and is too high.

We are so glad you enjoyed class and our new chef! Actually the price has gone up only by a small fraction. In 2009 when we opened the school it was USD95. The Federal Government increased taxes in our state by 5% on January 1st, 2014, and currently the school costs USD128 which now includes 16% taxes. So you can see over 5 seasons it is a minimal change. We look forward to seeing you again with another exciting new chef!

“An education in Mexican food and a great way to spend a day”
Reviewed 23 March 2014

We were very happy to attend a cooking class...recipes from Puebla with Chef Alonso in February.
The school and Casa Caribe attached are beautiful facilities and they do everything to make you feel comfortable and keep you well fed! The Chef is an expert in indigenous/pre-Hispanic cooking and is passionate about sharing the amazing diversity of the cuisines of Mexico. He is personable and knowledgeable-great attributes in a teacher. I was able to ask a variety of questions. Last week I recreated the meal that we prepared that day and my friends were blown away with the results. In Mexico, like Italy and India, different regions have special foods and recipes and I appreciated the fact that this school is trying to teach people about the breadth and depth of foods of Mexico. Thank you to Catriona Brown and her team for taking such good care of us....yummy drinks, pastries and snacks. Some of it was hard work, but that was what I wanted and appreciated the hands on approach. The chef and staff finished up our meal so that we could sit and chat before
enjoying it.
