“Nice resort, good wedding”
Reviewed 9 June 2014

I have stayed in many of the all-inclusives in this area, and this was as nice as any. We went as a family of four for a family wedding. The wedding was handled beautifully, excellent food and service, fun DJ. We did not stay as preferred guests, so I can't comment on the adults only pool or any of the other "preferred" perks, although I do find it a bit tacky that it exists at all within a pricey all-inclusive. As for the rest of the trip, here are my pros and cons:

PROS: The layout is spacious but buildings are close enough that you never need to walk more than 5 minutes or so to get to the lounge and restaurant area.

We found the rooms to be very quiet-in fact the quietest we have had at an AI. We stayed on the ground floor in building 6, and did not have a problem with mustiness but my kids were next door and they did. The rooms were dead quiet at night, noisier during the day due to the non-stop golf carts that are used by the service staff. Building 1 by the pool would be quite noisy with music from the lounge and sometimes the pool area at night, so if you like to turn in early, keep that in mind.

Mini-fridge is refilled daily, and if you run low you can call room service to restock it. We filled the ice bucket with ice on the 2nd floor and took our Coronitas down to the beach. There is a beach bar, but no Corona.

There is no lining up for reservations for the restaurants, they give you a pager so you can hang out in the lounge area until your table is ready. Still not sure if this is a pro or con, the waits could be long, especially for large groups.

Nice pool with a shallow area (large steps) that was great for the little kids to play in.

Food was average for an all-inclusive, although the Lemongrass restaurant was very good. They have a hibachi table where they do the whole show for you.

The resort offers free calling to Canada and the US, although we never tried it and I have no idea how complicated it is or isn't.

Cons:
Right after we checked in, one of the employees introduced himself as our "concierge" and asked us to have a seat while he showed us the layout of the place. But first he wanted to know if we have ever stayed with Amresorts before, and showed us where all the other resorts are located on a map, and then tried to book us into a breakfast at 8 am the next morning to show what benefits loyal customers get. He insisted this was not a time share spiel, but it sure was. They call this a "vacation club", and when we tried to say no to the breakfast, he was incredibly persistent and insistent that we go. After roughly 8 hour of travel we found this quite annoying, to say the least. After saying "no" no less than 5 times, he finally took us to the bellboy.

My only other gripe is that there is no casual poolside restaurant. The Bluewater grill is actually a sit down service and requires shirt, shoes etc. So having lunch means leaving the pool/beach area, getting some clothes on, and either going to the buffet, or the grill, which was closed half of the days we were there. In the pastat other all-inclusives, I have enjoyed eating right by the pool, grabbing nachos and guac, and not having to leave everything for lunch.

The buffet area is also quite warm, no air-conditioning, at times it was stifling but then again we did go in May.

Also there are no taxis waiting at the lobby-usually there is a taxi line-up and a board posting the fares. Across the street is a "taxi stand" but they wanted 4 people per trip, and only had one large ad board advertising trips to Playa del Carmen, etc. They wanted $140 roundtrip to Akumal, whereas in Akumal the taxi stand charges $50 each way. Before leaving for your trip, I would see if there is a taxi service in Puerto Morelos that you could call for cheaper service.

Preferred guests get to reserve the palapas on the beach, but infront of buildings 5 and 6 they were up for grabs. We never had a problem getting one.

Enough said.It was an enjoyable trip, very typical style of resort for this area. We found the dreams resorts to be nicer.

PS> catch the fire show-unbelievable. Stay for the whole thing. you will be wowed.

Room Tip: Building 6 is very quiet at night. Building one has a lot of pool area noise.

I'm really late in getting this review out, we were here Feb. of this year over Valentine's Day. This was our third trip to the resort in 3 years. While the resort is very nice it is the people that make it. The resort it's self is starting to show its age, but the food and service is outstanding. I do feel that the did to many weddings while we were there, but it was Valentine's Day. The problem was that it took away from the service that you received. For that reason we are going to try Jade next year.

The Now Sapphire and staff are great. I will just list the positives and the one or two negatives

Positives:
The staff is great and does everything they can to make you feel at home. The NOW Entertainment team is the best! Marco, Geo, Ferman, Arika, Renita, and most of all Omar are amazing. Really good at getting people to have a wonderful time and make a real effort to get to know you.
We ate at all the restaurants but Lemongrass and they were all really good. The only one that I didn't have an absolute great meal was Fresca (the mexican place).
The room itself was spacious and very well kept. No complaints at all about this
The resort itself is really nice. They are repairing some items but all in all it is really nice.

The few negatives:
Drinks are great but weak. Probably because if they weren't you would pass about by noon. Pretty sure all the liquor is watered down.
Sometimes the restaurants that they list as open on a particular night are closed.
Beach is great and sand is really soft, but the water is not really clear like I had wanted.

All in all, I would stay here again and recommend it to anyone.

Room Tip: We stayed in building 1 and it was close to everything. Glad we had that building

Some things great--Rooms big and well cleaned. Stayed in building #9 which I thought would be a long walk from the action at the resort, but it was less than five minutes to the restaurants, beach, entertainment etc. Service from the people at the resort was friendly and efficient. Pool was big and clean with many loungers. Food was good, not great. Entertainment---comedy juggling, rock and roll with circus acts, was a good time in the air conditioned theatre. Beach was clean with soft sand. Room service was great to have late at night or for breakfast if a person didn't want to get ready and walk to the main complex.
Some things I would rate as average or less---Even though the beach is top quality, the water is less than average concerning clarity and the amount of seaweed. Very few trash cans on the beach or at the main areas of the resort. Restaurants were not very well air conditioned. It's pretty sad when the coolest/most comfortable restaurant is the blue grill ocean front. The indoor restaurants were very uncomfortable to dine in. Got tired of drinking corona/modello. Resort claimed to have Bud Light, but we didn't see any. This is a very nice resort and the price seems pretty competitive, but if you like to swim/snorkel in the ocean or may have an issue with restaurants which are rather warm in temp--then I would look elsewhere.

We had a wonderful wedding and week at the now Sapphire. The staff was wonderful, our wedding coordinator Juan, the minister, and the waiters were fantastic. The Dj was good too and pulled out all the stops. I wasn't pleased with hair and makeup (raccoon eyes) and questioned the sanitation of the makeup as it wasn't cleaned. I ended up doing my own makeup with the help of a friend and left my hair in the hands of the stylist the curls in my hair fell out right away (although I have lots of hair it is certainly not easy to work with). We were thrilled with the photography but a little dissapointed with the quality of the cinemetography. If I had to do it the only thing I would change is to hire someone else for the video as it is difficult to hear and mostly video footage with people posing for pictures (akward) and with the wrong music :(.
I just mention these minor bumps so that if someone else gets married there they can make sure it's done to their standards and are prepared (maybe bring a friend that does hair and makeup and can work a video camera :)
All in all it was a majical day and the staff worked there butts off to make it happen especially our wedding coordinator! I would reccomend this resort to anyone wanting a family vactation to a destination wedding!

Room Tip: pay the extra and go for the waterfront! Expecially ground level if you have kids its very conveinie...

my family recently stayed at Now Sapphire as guests for a family wedding celebration. The resort must market for destination weddings as there was at least one wedding a day for the 3 days we were there. Although the weather did not cooperate for a beach wedding, the back up plans were very nice. This was our first destination wedding and it was very enjoyable, giving the family & guests more time to get to know each other. After reading the reviews on TA, I was initially concerned about the lounge chair & beach towel scarcity, but we did not experience a shortage with either. There are multiple dining choices ranging from serve yourself ala carte to white table cloth service. We didn't experience any delays throughout our stay. The service was fine, although, as other TA reviewers had mentioned, tipping definetely helps.

Pros - all inclusive package ; clean rooms ; good service ; easy airport transfer ; nice beach ; beautiful resort ; nightly entertainment ; flexible dining options ; great destination wedding location

Cons - weak drinks ; resort starting to show wear

note: Beware of the vulchers preying on the tourists in the airport.
