Stayed there the week of 11/4. Check in was ok, annoying that the room wasn't available til 2-3 PM. Let me just recap everything:
Resort-not overly big so walking from one end to other if need be wasn't bad at all. The gym was being worked on so everything was crammed in a room in the conference center. Grounds were clean and always being worked on. I'm more of a sit by the pool guy but the beach was ok. Some seaweed but it's the ocean, what do you people? Good layout and well kept.
Food-Breakfast good, lunch ok, dinner was kind of hit and miss. Annoying to have to make reservations. The one thing I wanted was chicken tortilla soup from the mexican rest. but with the revolving menus, I missed it.
Pool-Was ok, fairly big. The kid pool was pretty small, just up to knee depth at it deepest I think. The kids loved the cliff jumping. Slide is painful for adults. Pool is all the same depth so if the kids know how to swim great, if not they couldn't.
Room-we had 2 adults, 3 kids, we all fit ok. Beds were a little hard. Railing on the deck was a little wobbly I thought for the 4th floor.
Kids club-very very good. Staff was great, kep they entertained with different activities. Our kids were in and out all day long.
Pool staff-fun and friendly. Good activities.
Overall it was good, I wouldn't go back though. I've been to the Moon Palace and Crown Paradise Club which I would opt to go back to again, Secrets (not comparable).

Travelled a lot in the area best one yet
Service at reception, bars, restaurants were all good the staff were always nearby to get you whatever you wanted and they seemed to really enjoy their jobs. The two fellows down at the water activity area really were great. They would take you out on the hobby cat I did notice that some tried to tip them but they refused they would give you lesson on what ever equipment you wanted to use. As for others comments about the seaweed on the beach well it is a beach and there is seaweed they were always raking and removing it not an issue.
Maid service was great different time everyday but it was done mini bar always filled. A tip is always good they do work hard
Did walk down to Puerto morales but the commercial pier blocks your way so you have to wander a little bit out to the main road and around the container building but can be done cab ride about 10 dollars lovely town good food and shopping you can also find people in town to take you out on the water snorkeling ,tours.
If you go south to the marina and all the way down to the end you come out by the jade hotel lovely beach nice walk for the afternoon. There is para sailing, fishing and snorkel tours that leave from the marina
The one thing that I noticed different from other places is that the towel on the chair at 6am was not happening here. Any time or anywhere we wanted a chair one was available I think that is a Canadian /American thing as this hotel has a lot of different nationalities here (I'm Canadian). Servers were always around to get you drinks at the pool
Grounds were lovely very lush and well kept
Saturday night was Mexican night they set up booths by the pool to sell anything you can think of to take home from mexico.
Every night at the buffet has a different theme always lots to choose from
Can't go wrong with this hotel

My wife and I enjoyed two fabulous weeks at this great hotel in October/November 2013. We chose the hotel because it was so close to Puerto Morelos, or POMO, as the locals term it. The idea was to enjoy the facilities of a great hotel while being close to a smaller Mexican town known for its great beach, cool vibe and excellent snorkelling. We were sure that the hotel would be fine, but we were wrong, because it was brilliant and much more than anticipated.

The trip from the airport was about 25 minutes, with some adventure thrown in since recent rains had flooded some parts of the road and crocodiles were about.
Reception was simple, efficient and friendly. The lobby was very elegant and large.

What impressed us the most, from the first minute to the last was the incredible warmth, skill and efficiency of the staff-all the staff and over two weeks, you meet, perhaps a hundred different people doing a myriad of jobs. We have visited many AIs and generally enjoy the experience, but this group of people were the absolute best that we have ever encountered We gave up writing down names for mention because all were great! Take any Mexican name you wish and there was a splendid worker in some capacity with that name-honestly! I shall only mention two as representative of the excellence of the staff-Jose who worked in the buffet restaurants and greeted us so warmly every day and Russell whom we met only once in the Alcazar, Mediterranean restaurant, but whose enthusiasm, we may never forget.

The resort is beautiful, a brilliant design of tasteful buildings, natural lagoon, sandy beach, and huge pool with many different nooks, crannies and areas, from quiet spots, to sport sections, to cliff jumping etc. The rooms are large, clean, well-appointed, with huge bathrooms. The hotel is located next to a large, modern marina, that is worth walking to and exploring.

The food was great. Any complaints simply do not make logical sense, since there is so much choice daily and then each evening there is a special theme at the buffet, Alhambra restaurant. We enjoyed the three a la carte restaurants, seafood, Mediterranean and Mexican. Again great food, service and ambience. The Alcazar is particularly stunning.

The activation staff are friendly, lively and engaging. Always something going on, especially for kids. The kids were treated with great respect and affection. It is a great spot for a family vacation. We were without children, but thoroughly enjoyed watching the fun, wholesome activities. Always something at night too, with the Fire Show being spectacular.

The bar staff were very skilled and produced excellent drinks, especially in the lobby bar, where we enjoyed watching Mexicans go crazy over victories in international soccer. The enthusiasm was contagious.

The only complaints would be that some tourists simply forget their manners and do not treat others or staff with respect. That includes loud chatting while performers in the lobby bar were singing/playing. Smokers everywhere need to remember where they are when they light up, too.

If you are a reasonable person, I do not see how you could not enjoy your stay at this hotel. The fact that it is close to the airport and the charming and very safe village of Puerto Morelos makes it an even wiser choice.

Room Tip: I do not think there are any bad rooms. Views are spectacular and balcony or terraces are large.

Great spacious room with partial ocean view near pool (not too noisy our main concern) ... Lots of pool chairs, hammocks and those wonderful covered beds, no need to upgrade. Maids furnished bottled water, soda and beer upon request. Food was very good, above average, at the buffets ... Two options, one with a great ocean view. Ala carte restaurants were easy to book but food wasn't great Thai wasn't really Thai. Name brand alcohol, Barcardi, Absolut, Jack Daniels...etc. cooked to order fresh fish, mussels, chicken and steaks.

Only approached once for time share presentation, we opted out, no one pestered us. Gym was good with yoga and stretching by the ocean. Spa was very nice but way overpriced we got an awesome massage $40 for one hour on the beach in the small town of Puerto Morales five minutes away $10 cab ride or bike in free with the hotel tour.

Major complaint not enough time there ... Hope to return sooner than later. P.S. there is a quiet zone with a hot tub and beach front lounging to avoid the many families with children.
Minor issues ... Balconies are not private, you can see and hear your neighbor, they need to invest in better quality sheets, entertainment was just so,so....kudos to Rango who was the staff person responsible for stretching, aqua aerobics, etc. great job, great personality.

Room Tip: Building 16 was good for us, close to pool and restaurants. 1625 had a tree providing privacy from...

This is a beautiful hotel and it more than met our expectations. This was our first trip to Mexico and I booked the journey online, sight unseen.

The hotel surroundings are magnificent. It was built opposite acres and acres of mangroves. The pathways throughout the property are lush with vegetation, all tropical, of course, where one can find several different varieties of palm trees, hibiscus, other flowering plants and coconut trees.

The facility has nine buildings that envelop three thousand plus rooms, most with wrought iron balconies, overlooking the pool or the beautiful beaches of the Gulf of Mexico. I could not get an exact figure but I am guessing the facility sits on more than a thousand acres. It is well hidden. The roads leading up to the hotel are in serious need of repair. At high tide, the mangroves overflow onto these byways, causing flooding and deep ruts, making for a kidney-jolting ride.

The grounds of this family oriented complex are kept immaculately clean as are the rooms, which include a nighttime turn-down service. Though the buildings are spread apart, there are golf-cart vehicles available at the entrance of the hotel to transport guests to their rooms.

The wide stretching beaches are soft white and well maintained. There are many tiki huts lining the beach like sentries, providing shade from the hot tropical sun, and several private cabanas for use, too. Also found is a massage service available at a cabana on the beach. A couple of outdoor bars in the surrounding beach and pool areas, and one in particular for adults-only whose area includes a spa, provide beverages of choice. The pool is one of the largest and longest we have seen. The bottom is painted a navy/purple that enhances the color of the water. There is a cliff above the pool where we saw several children sitting. We are not sure if it’s for diving purposes.

The hotel lobby is tastefully adorned with a modern décor. In the center is a separate circular area that presents guests with a lobby bar that has nightly entertainment. While we were there the group included a trumpet player, keyboardist, drummer, guitarist and a female singer. They played a variety of music including some light jazz to which the singer crooned some Nora Jones favorites. She has a pleasant voice.

There is table service inside and outside the bar area and top shelf liquor is available. Bowls of salted, shelled peanuts can be had. One late afternoon a snack of fresh fruit built into a bar-top stand for easy picking, and pink and white marshmallows, artistically arranged, could be had for dipping into an accompanying fountain of flowing melted chocolate.

There is a gift shop on the premises that also sell various sundry items. Internet service is available. Enjoyed the nightly turn-down service.

Some of the best foods, what the hotel describes as a “gastronomical festival,” (and we agree) can be had it its Alahambra buffet facility, its gourmet Alcazar where we had steak and lobster, and the Mexican Hacienda Arrecife that hosts Italian fare on some nights.

The complex boasts it own marina that includes a separate La Marina seafood restaurant offering pleasant views of the Gulf of Mexico and the vessels of the marina.

We cannot praise enough the excellent, well dressed and appointed service people, who are so pleasant and so helpful no matter what the question, including the knowledgeable concierge, but in particular, Rocio in the restaurants and Celi in the lobby bar. Both are delightful and we hope management realizes what an asset they are to the hotel.

In a nutshell, El Cid spells class.

We traveled with My mom, 13 year old son, husband, and myself. Everyone at the resort was very friendly. The staff all communicated very well. The activities were wide ranging and great fun. Staff was always smiling and encouraging us to join in. They got to know names and personalities and even though we are not usually joiners, we had a blast with all the activities.
The suite was amazing with completely separate bedrooms and stocked with water, soda, and beer. We never heard neighbors through the walls or each other. There was a jacuzzi on the wrap around deck and an oceanfront view. We had some adventures with no hot water one afternoon which was promptly fixed, and water coming in the sliders when the rain came down hard, but stuff happens. The rooms were kept clean and any towels ect that you needed were sent right up.
The meals had something for everyone. They did ask you to be relatively dry and to make reservations at 3 of the restaurants for dinner. The drinks were top shelf and free flowing, they were happy to make any virgin drinks for our son. We tipped occasionally but didn't really see any difference in service or drinks when we didn't.
Except for rain during the rainy season we had a great trip and would recommend the resort to any travelers of any age. I felt very safe and never worried about my family.
