We stopped here for lunch on our drive down the CA coast. Great food and service. The view is not great, but you have a view of a small river that runs to the ocean. Good location and your not going to go wrong with this selection. menu is diverse.

Rustic and seemingly out of the way this hotel is a gem. The rooms aren't luxury by any means, but they are comfortable and clean. It's the river you're going there for. They are right on the edge and it's serenity will captivate you. Grab a chair in the water and let your feet dangle in it. As for the restaurant, we were there recently and it's changed from what I remembered. It's much more expensive and not as good. The food is average now and they've lost their simple rustic charm.

Room Tip: Get a room on the side with the river. It's more expensive, but worth it.

When I booked, I didn't think, it would be so nice. We reached late as we drove from LA area but room was very nice. I wouldn't say, it was a luxury place but cleanliness, and warmness of the room was really good. Room size is good and it has seating area outside as well, although seating area is not good as it just faces parking. Parking is in front of the room which is convenient.

Restaurant is also good. Since its in the middle of no where, one has to reach to the hotel before 8pm. Overall, a good place to stay, if you are driving from LA to SFO or vice-versa for leisure.

Price wise, its costly but in the jungle, its still value for money. Big Sur area is very pretty area and having this sort of a hotel makes the stay experience good.

Room Tip: Room facing river are better.

We were a little worried after reading some of the previous reviews but had a great weekend getaway here in one of the suite rooms. Yes it is older and a little bit funky but it was quaint, comfortable, and lovely location..... On the river in Big Sur !!!!! It wasn't about the hotel for us it was about Big Sur, a magical place. There was a TV, hair dryer , and wifi , by the way. There was road noise but it died down after dark. We were out and about in the day so maybe it's bad if you just sit in your room all day. It was a little dark but it is under a redwood grove. The room was clean. Nice organic shampoos and soaps. The king bed was comfortable. The restaurant was great and all staff were extremely friendly. The chairs in the river were wonderful and we had so much fun hanging out there. The pool was quite nice as well. What's not to like. We had a great time. I would definitely come back. The only thing I would say is they should put a fan in the bedroom. Ceiling fan in the sitting room was great. Really enjoyed our stay.

Room Tip: Get a suite on the river.

Seeing the reviews here I had worries about our reservation, but I was very pleasantly surprised. Yes, having to cross the road to your room is a hassle (look both ways). Yes, the rooms seem a bit old (but we found them very comfortable). But we found the staff very friendly and helpful. The "chair in the river" is wonderful - buy a burrito and a smoothie at the general store next door (the burrito bar is amazing) and enjoy it with your feet in the water. The dinner was delicious (we had ribs, brisket and pasta), but the portions were too large for us. The pub nearby (Maiden Publick House) was perfect for a drink. Two miles down the road is a state park with a mile long trail that leads to a great beach. We could easily have stayed here for a few days.

Room Tip: Someone complained about noise in room 10. We had that same room, but experienced no machinery nois...

Stayed here on 13th June. One night.

We had the unfortunate "luck" to get room 10. Checked in at about 5pm and awful smell of urine ion the room.

We had no choice to stick with it as the room was paid for up front and no other rooms free. Had to sleep all night with windows fully open and it was very chilly. I reported this to the staff the next morning but their attitude was not that helpful to be frank, and I told the young lady on reception that the room should not have been presented in that way. She agreed but I had the felling nothing would be done. I was honest and said I would give a negative rating on trip advisor but that didn't have any impact either!

Very disappointing considering we had booked our rooms and paid up front over 6 months ago.

Its a shame as the restaurant and bar here are great. Don't stay, but enjoy the food en route is my suggestion.

We came in late and managed to get the last room which was aparment.
Ok, the motel is older one and room decor wasnt that modern but I wouldn't say we left with bad feelings - very reasonable one night stay.

+ nice yard & small river, beautiful nature around
+ small shop next to
+ new TV in the room
+ comfy bed
+ clean

- shower... well... took a minute to find out.. and once it was on you'll definately hear it. Also you'll hear when your neighbor takes a shower
- no extras in the room

Summa summarum ok one night stop!
