“Love it!”

Two years ago we had stopped in to eat at the restaurant on our journey going North on the Coast Highway. it was so good! My daughter said, I want to stay here sometime. So this time we did! It is great. The little cabin was so nice, clean, comfy, nice porch. So peaceful. We ate at the restaurant for a light snack in the evening as it was late, the next morning we had a yummy breakfast, both times sitting on the lovely deck. We went down to the river and sat on one of the benches. I could have stayed longer! There are a couple of nice gift shops and a general store, don't miss those. It is a bit pricey, but what isn't on the coast in CA? It is right on the 1, it is quiet until about 6 or 7 am when you start hearing cars going by, but that didn't bother me, I live in the city anyway. The cabin is so nicely decorated. When we left, I saw the staff cleaning the inside and outsides of every window. Yes, book ahead, I booked it late March or early April and we weren't arriving until the last part of July. It really is a great place and love the history.

I had read some reviews that weren't very good about the staff. We enjoyed 3 wonderful nights there and only met the nicest employees. Everything was great and the location is beautiful! The rooms are not a 5 star place but that isn't what this place is about. Restaurant was nice and the food was good. The burrito bar in the store was really good and they had delicious smoothies too!

Room Tip: There are rooms right at the river and then rooms across the street. We were lucky and got a room at...

Plan ahead and book your next Big Sur trip at the River Inn. Lodging is very limited in Big Sur so it is essential to book a cabin in advance .

The advantage of staying on this property is the wonderful amenities including a restaurant , general store and gas station. Sundays are the best day , also the busiest at the River Inn featuring an riverside BBQ and live band. Again plan ahead and make a reservation as the restaurant is very busy but well worth it. Book a river side room to enjoy a quieter stay and be sure to get a drink to go and enjoy it in a rustic chair in the river !

We stopped here for lunch on our drive down the CA coast. Great food and service. The view is not great, but you have a view of a small river that runs to the ocean. Good location and your not going to go wrong with this selection. menu is diverse.

Rustic and seemingly out of the way this hotel is a gem. The rooms aren't luxury by any means, but they are comfortable and clean. It's the river you're going there for. They are right on the edge and it's serenity will captivate you. Grab a chair in the water and let your feet dangle in it. As for the restaurant, we were there recently and it's changed from what I remembered. It's much more expensive and not as good. The food is average now and they've lost their simple rustic charm.

Room Tip: Get a room on the side with the river. It's more expensive, but worth it.

When I booked, I didn't think, it would be so nice. We reached late as we drove from LA area but room was very nice. I wouldn't say, it was a luxury place but cleanliness, and warmness of the room was really good. Room size is good and it has seating area outside as well, although seating area is not good as it just faces parking. Parking is in front of the room which is convenient.

Restaurant is also good. Since its in the middle of no where, one has to reach to the hotel before 8pm. Overall, a good place to stay, if you are driving from LA to SFO or vice-versa for leisure.

Price wise, its costly but in the jungle, its still value for money. Big Sur area is very pretty area and having this sort of a hotel makes the stay experience good.

Room Tip: Room facing river are better.

We were a little worried after reading some of the previous reviews but had a great weekend getaway here in one of the suite rooms. Yes it is older and a little bit funky but it was quaint, comfortable, and lovely location..... On the river in Big Sur !!!!! It wasn't about the hotel for us it was about Big Sur, a magical place. There was a TV, hair dryer , and wifi , by the way. There was road noise but it died down after dark. We were out and about in the day so maybe it's bad if you just sit in your room all day. It was a little dark but it is under a redwood grove. The room was clean. Nice organic shampoos and soaps. The king bed was comfortable. The restaurant was great and all staff were extremely friendly. The chairs in the river were wonderful and we had so much fun hanging out there. The pool was quite nice as well. What's not to like. We had a great time. I would definitely come back. The only thing I would say is they should put a fan in the bedroom. Ceiling fan in the sitting room was great. Really enjoyed our stay.

Room Tip: Get a suite on the river.
