“Great spot in the Big Sur”
Reviewed 12 April 2014

Shared a cabin with a group of friends. This is a great location to stay right in the middle of the big sur drive with its amazing views and great beaches.

Cabin was nice and relaxing and had a open fire for the evening when it good a little chilly. We enjoyed a walk up to the summit of the hill where there was a great panoramic view and to the near by water wall.

Not cheap, but you're in the big sur.

The room was unique. We had a king bed, double and twin. The double was in its own room. There was no heat in the double room. The fire place was the best touch. The room was very clean. We loved waking up with the turkey gobbling outside. The best jewel is the Roadhouse restaurant down the street. ... The absolute best dining we had on all our travels down the coast.

We rented one of the cottages and really enjoyed our stay. The fireplace is great (although something about the design of it causes a decent amount of smoke to come into the room), and we loved being able to take hikes right from the property. The meals were pricey, but we found that most meals in Big Sur were expensive so we weren't too shocked.

Room Tip: Take a cottage with a fireplace.

I had a pleasant time in this hotel. It's located inside a beautiful park, surrounded by wildlife. the rooms are very well maintained and the larger ones can accommodate a family with comfort. I will come back !!

We are a family of five. We arrived at night. We booked a room that fit us all comfortably. Our room was a sort of quasi-cabin connected to a couple of similar units. I can't really compare it to anything. Definitely on the rustic side of things. The reason we chose to stay there was totally validated the next morning. We were situated in a state park at the gateway to beautiful trails. It was hard to believe we were to so close to Carmel and Monterey. The Big Sur Lodge typifies the incredible diversity available when touring the California coast.

PS - I was fascinated by the no smoking sign placed in front of the ashtray and matches. For clarification, the room did not smell of smoke in any way.

EuropeinFebruary- Thank you for your wonderful review. We are delighted to hear you say Big Sur Lodge 'typifies the incredible diversity available when touring the California coast'. Thank you so much! We are glad your room fit your family of five comfortably and that you enjoyed being at the gateway to beautiful trails and so close to Carmel and Monterey.
Concerning the No Smoking sign, you are correct that all of our guest rooms are non-smoking rooms. The ashtray and matches are provided as a courtesy for lighting the fireplace and we apologize if there was any confusion. Thank you for pointing out that detail to us!
Again, thank you so much for visiting and for sharing your honest feedback. We look forward to your next visit!

We stayed here for a night on our drive down from SF to LA on the PCH. Typical lodge that also has to be a great starting point for hikes! A little overpriced, but that seems common in this area. We paid for a room including a fireplace, unfortunately the wood provided was moist an hard to light on fire. Cell phone and internet reception is scarce, but available (at least with AT&T). Plenty of towels provided, rooms were clean but not spotless, beds were comfortable, coffeemaker with decent coffee included in each room! We also enjoyed dinner at the restaurant there, which was very good quality and tasty. Definitely a place to stay if you wanna go and explore Big Sur!

Andrea K- Thank you for your nice review! We are glad you visited us on your recent trip down the Pacific Coast Highway and that you liked our location and the available hiking nearby. We're happy you found your bed comfortable and that you enjoyed your meal at our restaurant and the coffee in your room. However, we are sorry to hear that you felt your firewood was not dry enough. We use soft wood for the fireplaces but our Front Desk would've been happy to have a replacement packet of firewood delivered to your door. Anytime you are here, please always feel free to reach out to our Front Desk with any concerns. Thank you again for your feedback and we hope you visit us again soon!

We only stayed for a quick night, and had room 33. I think the lodge has some age on it, but our room was very fresh and up to date. It was huge! I think it was the biggest room we have ever had. It is Big Sur afterall! Anyway, there is not much to tell in a short night, but guest services were very good, the bed was comfortable enough and the location terrific. We would definitely stay again.
