We stayed in the River View Cabin that overlooked the Big Sur River. The cabin was charmingly furnished and extremely comfortable. We LOVED the bathroom! The shower and heated floors revived us after a long day of hiking, and we loved sitting on the deck, watching our perfectly prepared fire, and listening to the river and the rustling redwoods. Our kitchen was so convenient for breakfast before going on the day's adventures. We had such a wonderful time!

I stayed at a small cabin here (with my daughter) during a drive up highway 1 from san diego to portland in late summer. It was beautiful. We loved the fire pit, redwoods, board games and river. Didn't miss a television at all and the nearby sites and hiking were great too.

Room Tip: I think it was little big sur cabin? Lovely

From the hotel pictures, I expected something a bit classier, but in reality it was a small step up from camping cabins. There is no heat or a/c, but windows and a fireplace. When we first arrived the room was really warm, but by bed time it cooled down. We tried turning up the fireplace, but it never went more than a dull flame. We were freezing by morning. The stone floor in the bathroom could be heated or cooled which was great. However, the floor in the bedroom was disgusting. It was covered in stains and obviously very dirty. My husband who will walk on any floor even refused to walk barefoot. I also found the bed to be really uncomfortable. It was by far the worst night sleep I had on our road trip. The location was good since there were a few restaurants within a short drive and one that was right next door (for breakfast and lunch). Overall I really expected it to be better and would not recommend Glen Oaks.

Like most places in Big Sur, Glen Oaks is unique with a lot of character. It is basically a roadside motel right in the middle of Big Sur.

The rooms were incredibly nice and completely redone. We liked the board games (e.g. Jenga) in the room and the night time fire pit was nice.

Location is great with excellent hiking access to Andrew Molera State Park and Pfeiffer State Park. The restaurant at the motel was great for breakfast.

This was our second stay at Glen Oaks and it is one of our favorite spots. On this trip we stayed in room 14 which is the first room shown on the trip advisor professional photos. We arrived early and took a tour of some of the other rooms as well. Rooms 4, 9, & 12 all have outdoor fireplaces. The other rooms have indoor fireplaces only. Room 14 has a private outdoor patio with lush trees and plants surrounding it. You can hear the traffic since this lodging sits immediately off Hwy 1, but there is an abundance of wild life to listen to. We had several stellar jays, owls, varoius other birds and even wild turkeys in the area behind our patio. The beds are comfortable and the heated floors are wonderful. On our last visit we stayed in the studio cabin across the street which sits at the foot of a beautiful redwood tree. I would recommend either but the cabin is less noisy.

Room Tip: Rooms 4,9,&12 have outdoor fireplaces. Room 4 is close to the restaurant (possible smells/noise), room 9 looks like the best of the 3 rooms but is adjacent to the communal outdoor fire ring & in room 12 you can't sit directly in front of the fireplace as it is in the corner of the patio. Room 16 sits closest to the road but has a large patio.
