(This review only rates the restaurant/bar. We did not visit the campground.). We stopped in for dinner while staying at the state park just down the road. Big portions of food...very tasty. Stopped back in later that evening to watch a NCAA playoff game as our lodge did not have TV. Sat in the middle room on a couch arrangement that seemed more like someone's living room with plenty of large screen TVs. Frequented by locals and campers from the resort. Everyone was friendly asking where we were from and sharing stories. We always enjoy meeting new people. If you don't why are you in a bar?

We camped at the Fernwood resort. There were good and bad things about our stay.

Good
- was able to get a spot at the last minute
- the whole area is beautiful, our spot by the river was very pretty
- showers were clean and hot

Not Great
- When we arrived, someone had parked their VERY large truck in front of the hook up box for our site. It was almost impossible to maneuver our camper so that we could hook up the water and electric. We asked an employee and were told that they don't believe in "actual sites" so it was OK for our neighbor to use part of our site. We had to park our camper at a weird angle which meant that it was not level. Made for a weird night's sleep.
- One of the employee's pit bull attacked my dog, which was very unpleasant.

- The camp seemed to cater to more of a younger partying crowd, loud music, up late, that sort of thing. I would prefer a family camping setting that limits loud music after 11pm, but some people might prefer being able to be loud late at night.

We stayed in a Fernwood motel room. Big Sur is very expensive in general so it is hard to not feel ripped off a bit, but Fernwood was fine. The bathroom was very small and no TV.

On the positive side, the room had a gas stove heater and the bed was comfortable.

Campsite was small but came with fire pit, water, and electricity. The hot showers were also nice to have at the end of the day. We mostly used it as base to explore the Big Sur area. Big Sur is a gorgeous place to visit.

The big downside to this place is the bar/restaurant at the hotel gets really noisy at night. We chose the campsite because they insist on quiet time after 10pm. The problem is the we heard drunk people having really loud conversations until 1am. I wouldn't complain if I was in an area to party, but we specifically chose this place for peace and quiet. I would think twice before coming back and would choose a better campsite location when I did come back.

Room Tip: Choose a campsite as far away from the bar/restaurant as possible.

Let me start off by saying, resort is a stretch. It's mostly a campsite with some motel style rooms and cabins. However, we REALLY like it here. We stayed in the "Motel, Queen w/ fire & tub" room. The tub is outdoors - like a hot tub that drains. It's amazing. The room itself is like an old motel room in the woods (well, it is in the woods). Anyway, it was clean - the staff were friendly. We got ice cream cones from their general store, which were delicious (Lappert's ice cream, yummm). They also have a bar that we went to at the very end of our day which was spent exploring the coast. In a great location, of course. When I was younger, I used to camp here with friends and enjoyed that very much as well.

Room Tip: We loved the room that had the outdoor tub!
