“A rustic and reasonable Big Sur choice”

These are basic non-luxury cabins but nicely located. Be sure to get a cabin right on the river...you can actually hear the water from the cabin's deck. The cabin comes with a little kitchen with stove, dishes, and full size refrigerator. It gets cold at night, but there is plenty of bedding and a little heater. It's also true that you need to go up next to the store for WiFi but it's a short hop and one can be "unplugged" now and then! Best of all is the little restaurant which serves a fantastic, inexpensive breakfast. The crew who operate the restaurant are friendly, talented cooks, and totally bi-lingual!

Room Tip: Get a cabin right on the river; it makes a big difference.

Very basic. Clean though. A wooden hut. Shower is ok. Disappointing that there was no wi fi in the huts - only near the office / store. Would be helpful, as phone coverage for T mobile is non existent.
Everything in Big Sur is expensive, so no 'good value' anywhere. This place is ok for a couple of nights as base to explore the area.

Don't have high expectations and you wont be disappointed.

We booked this as kind of a 'wild card' - something different from the hotels we were staying in for the rest of our trip. Our route took us through Big Sur and we came across Ripplewood Resort while researching the area and thought we'd give it a go for the night. What fun we had!

Four of us shared cabin 16 - a 2 bedroom cabin set back from the roadside. As all the other reviews state, this isn't 5 star luxury - the decor is mismatched and dated, the rooms are quite dark and space is at a premium in the shower room - but this only adds to the charm of the place!

The cabin was well-stocked with cutlery, towels, bedding, toiletries etc and even some firewood - I imagine it would be a gorgeous place to stay in winter - especially at Thanksgiving or Christmas, with a cosy fire roaring.

Planning ahead, we'd stopped at a Wal-mart store on our way out of San Francisco, stocking up on steak, corn, potatoes, marshmallows - all the BBQ/campfire essentials. The fire pit and picnic table in the cabin's front yard allowed us to create a fabulous meal which we all thoroughly enjoyed in the peaceful woodland setting.

You totally forget how close the interstate is and genuinely feel like you could be stopping somewhere out in the wilderness!

My boyfriend's only complaint was that we hadnt booked an extra night!

If you like your home comforts, you might not be Ripplewood's biggest fan, but if you're looking for something different for a romantic - or family - trip, this is it!

Room Tip: Cabin 16 was perfect for four adults - one of the bedrooms even had a patio!

Ripplewood gets three stars by virtue of the beautiful location. Otherwise we were disappointed. The cabins are charming, certainly, but very cold at night and with very basic amenities considering the price. Service - our room wasn't cleaned, although housekeeping arrived mid-afternoon by which time our baby was taking a nap so we didn't want him disturbed.

We stayed here just the one night.
The place is adorable, with cute little log cabins.
It was so lovely & quite even though the main road was close by.
We sat outside under the stars drinking wine.
I had the best nights sleep.
Would recommend the place.

The location of Ripplewood is excellent for exploring the area and hikes. It is also handy as it is just off the main road. We stayed in the cheapest cabin, 12A, which was perfect for us! Although the décor is dated, the basic cabins were cosy and rustic. They were clean and tidy and had everything we needed. The cabin was tucked away in the trees although close to the little shop for supplies. The staff were not as chatty and friendly as other places we visited in America but were helpful. This is a super little resort!

Stayed here for two night first weekend july2013
This place is fantastic could not recommend highly enough.
We rented cabin 9. It had a deck over looking river(very little water due to warm weather)
It is so peaceful and quiet underneath the canopy of trees.we used the fire pit out front both nights to do a little barbecuing it was real back to nature stuff. A skunk even came for a walk by the first night we watched it running round our cabin and the next door one but it came to close .no tv or radio which we actually enjoyed. if you want wifi go up to the store restaurant across road or go to the Big Sur Roadhouse at entrance to resort
This really is a back to nature resort and all the better for it

Room Tip: Ask for lodge that overlooks river as this is farthest back from road traffic
