We traveled across the street from Post Ranch one evening to try out the Restaurant at Ventana. We got lazy last year and just stayed in our room, but staying at PRI much longer this time we adventured out to other places this time.
The restaurant doesn't seem that large up front, but once you enter you can tell it's a really huge space, both inside and out on the patio. We visited on a Saturday night and I was a bit surprised to see such a huge space relatively empty. I doubt they were at even one-third of capacity. The hostess also seemed really surprised we didn't want to sit outside when we said it was getting cold out as the sun set. The heaters aren't going to help that much.
On to the actual dinner. We both chose totally different items on the menu, which gave us a good view on a lot of what the kitchen was doing. Everything ranged from decent to delicious. The only thing I remember as sticking out as not that excellent was the sardine. I found it a bit over grilled, but other than that everything else was well prepared and tasty.
Service as a whole was pretty good. I was pleased with how easy going our server was with handling my girlfriend's food issues and easily had a dessert in mind as well. The only thing was that he never came back to confirm after saying he'd make sure all the changes he had in mind were good. The other thing that stuck out was that all the dishes pretty much just came out and were plopped down on our table. This certainly isn't a super expensive meal, but at the same time they are actively trying to bill themselves as a world class restaurant. The runners should know to introduce the dishes, especially in a multi-course menu where I've probably forgotten a lot of what was written about the dishes on the menu.
Minus some extremely minor service oddities, which were totally overshadowed by our friendly waiter and a waitress helping him out, it was an overall pretty good experience. Next time maybe we'll stop by for lunch to see what the view on the Ventana patio is all about.
