There really are no words that do justice to how fabulous Treebones is! My husband is an outdoorsy guy, and my idea of roughing it is the Holiday Inn; "glamping" at Treebones was the perfect compromise. We unfortunately could only stay one night, so we didn't get to experience everything at the resort and in the area, but now we have a reason to return.

We stayed in yurt #11, with a partial ocean view. It was spectacular! Large with a comfortable queen bed, sink, sofa, and table with two chairs. Our "window" looked out on the ocean and each yurt has a small deck with chairs. There was even a proper door. The yurt was very clean with fresh towels and perfectly made bed. It was honestly nicer than a lot of expensive hotel rooms.

The restaurant was delicious as well. I was surprised to see such elegant food that they have on the menu and was even more surprised at how good it tasted. There is also a bar that wraps around the restaurant where you can sit with a glass of wine and book and look out over the ocean for hours.

Overall, this is an experience not to be missed!

Room Tip: I'd suggest ocean view or partial ocean view

I was skeptical of this place, thinking that using a shared bathroom would ruin this place. It was a minor inconvenience at worst, given everything else this hotel had to offer. The views of the whole resort are truly spectacular. Every point of the place offers a new view of the Pacific vistas (make sure you hang out at the lodge one night for sunset).

The resort has so many amenities of any other resort, and all are so well done. The yurts are huge and seem like an upscale hotel room anywhere else (only bigger). There is a sink in the room, so at least you can wash your face, brush your teeth, etc. The restaurant was really tasty (which is great, given that there is nothing else very close by at all). The dinners weren't inexpensive, but everything was cooked well and tasted very fresh (they have an onsite organic garden, which I believe they use for their meals - it's also so fun to walk through). Service at the restaurant was sometimes slow, but with the great view and ambiance, it didn't really matter. The breakfast that's included was so good - the yogurt and muesli were so much better than the typical yogurt containers you get at other hotels. The pool and hot tub are small, but nice and have panoramic ocean views.

All in all, I would go back to this place in a heartbeat.

Things to know:
Great views
Large Rooms
Good food - get to restaurant for dinner early - they tend to run out of specials and meals.
Far from the town of Big Sur (where there are more restaurants, etc) - about 1 hour drive
Wi-fi available only in the main lodge, and it's not great (no cell service anywhere)

Thank you for your wonderful review . Our granola, peanut butter and berry preserves are all handmade in house. The yoghurt served with breakfast is organic, and you are correct, the salad greens and many vedgies on the lunch and dinner plates are harvested fresh from our garden daily!

We stayed at one of the campsites (pitched our own tent) as we traveled up the Californian coast. It was a very nice place, and we really enjoyed the showers, pool, hot-tub, deck, and restaurant. Our campsite had a wonderful ocean view, but the ground was very course gravel and had a significant slope. All in all, it was the most uncomfortable campsite of our five nights in the central coast, but the amenities were a treat.

Room Tip: Campsite 3 has a significant slope.

Breathtakingly beautiful, unique, serene, and relaxing. The yurts are spotlessly clean, roomy, and have comfortable linens and beds. We had a two person yurt, which had a queen bed, a futon couch, sink, mirror, table/chairs. Very spacious. Each yurt has a view deck (ocean or mountain) with Adirondack chairs for relaxing. There are several great hiking trails nearby... Or just hang out and relax. We enjoyed the pool, hot tub, and several private ocean view sitting spots before dinner. We started the evening whale watching from the ocean front outdoor bar, then feasted on sushi at the on site ocean view sushi bar. We even played a game of ocean view scrabble!! This is a great place for families, couples, or friends. The yurts have cloth walls, but all patrons respected the 9:00pm quiet time. Warning: the seals can be loud throughout the night, but earplugs are provided at the front desk. The yurts have dome skylights, so bring a sleeping mask if you don't want to wake with the sunrise. The restrooms are a short stroll away and are spotless, with granite counters and surprising amenities. This is truly a spectacular spot. Glamping at its best!!!!

We recently stayed two nights at Treebones and absolutely loved it! We all agreed we wish we had booked a longer stay and will definitely be returning. Most of the staff was friendly and helpful, especially front desk staff and the always-happy-and-singing Jonny. Our waitress Brenna and several different female front desk staff willingly recommended places for hiking, food, and sea kayaking, and even made phone calls for us to book these. That being said, we did experience a bit of inflexibility and poor attitude with Dominic, and wondered if this is the staffer mentioned in a previous negative review.

The yurt (we rented #1, one of the large yurts, to accommodate our family of 5) was spacious, comfy, and clean. We liked everything about it, including the close proximity to the shower rooms. Restroom/shower room facilities were clean, well decorated, and nicely stocked with the necessesities, including a hair dryer. The grounds are ruggedly beautiful, with interesting little nooks and crannies to explore.

We loved our 3 1/2 hour+ hike up Vicente flat (don't let the name fool you) with amazing views of the Pacific Coast and highly recommend Cubby at Sea for Yourself in San Simeon for sea kayaking. Dinner at Treebones' Wild Coast was quite good, as was breakfast, and we loved Sushi Chef Sarah Sweeney's creative sushi.

Altogether, a wonderful stay and we highly recommend Treebones.
