Fantastic spot and views over the surrounding countryside ,audio tour was very informative and definitely made our visit , wouldn't advise climbing the spiral staircase in the tower unless you are agile and slim . It would be nice if the £1 parking charge was refundable in the shop . Well worth visiting

Starting the visit by having to pay a nominal but separate £1 charge for the car park was an irritant but after that our visit was a real find. Sufficiently ruined to give a sense of its history but still intact enough for there to be something to look at and explore. Every one of the staff both at the reception and the tea room who we spoke with were welcoming and helpful. The free audio guide greatly enhanced our visit and helped make sense of the changes that have taken place over the centuries. There were also plenty of interpretation boards to assist as you moved around. Some parts are inevitably less accessible for those of limited mobility because of the nature of some of the ruined elements. On the day of our visit there was a school party who seemed pretty engaged with the story of the castle so Goodrich should be OK for a visit if you have school age children.

This is a great castle in a strategic position close to the Welsh border and overlooking the river.
Most of the castle remains intact and armed with the guidebook and audio AIDS you can be transported back in time to visualise life in the castle.
If you like a good old historical battle you with love Roaring Meg and the cannon balls recovered from an skirmish on site.
If you are interested in politics thus castle has links with parliament.
If you have a good head for heights take a walk up to the top of the tower, the views are spectacular.
The steps are very narrow and steep so I would recommend that you hold on to the rope and step down backwards for your descent.
I have a question for you that has perplexed historians over the centuries. The drawbridge is at the front of the castle, there is a moat around the castle and the stables are at the back. How did they horses get to the stable?

This is a good 'childrens' castle lots of stairs to climb and corners to explore. Enough history to be interesting. If you have done this also do Raglan or vice versa they are linked by family and close by. Dont miss Roaring Meg who used to be outside roaring in.

Spent over an hour wandering round listening to the free audio information which was very detailed, giving a really good insight into the life of the castle. Really good castle, well kept and you can easily envisage how they lived at the time. New stained glass window in the chapel is stunning. well worth £1 parking!
