“Birthday treat”
Reviewed 22 August 2013

We were made very welcome by the landlord on arrival. this did not change throughout our 2 night stay. the room was very adequate and clean. We had dinner both evenings in the very nice dining room this adjoining bar and lounge with chesterfield settees. The food was extraordinarily good, delicious and very well presented. This is most definitely the dining experience not to be missed. It is the venue where you can 'dress-up' and enjoy. If you are local this is the place to go for that special meal. The breakfasts were very good with the usual selection and well presented. This was a 66 year birthday break and was well worth doing. Thank you Airton for a nice stay.

we held an event at the Hostelrie in Goodrich, after a charity Canoe and Walk, Being an event organiser I am very fussy and have stayed all over, however if you want a great pub with great food and amazing service you will struggle to beat the Hostelrie. Aryton and his partner are an amazing young couple trying to make a go of a very hard business and they are doing everything right. The staff are amazing and nothing is too much trouble. They recently took over and are trying to do the place up as they go and they are doing a great job. The Bedrooms are in need of some TLC however for the price they are good clean rooms I really hope they make a go of it as its great to see such enthusiasm.

Just spent 2 nights here at the end of July, room was very nice and very good value for money. Had a meal there both nights and the food and service were excellent . A genuine family run business with a great feel. Highly recommended to anyone staying in the area.

My Mam and I stayed here whilst visiting family in the area. We were made to feel instantly at home. The Hostelrie has a lovely ambience, very relaxing. We ate evening meal's of the extensive menu on 2 of the 3 nights we stayed - they were FANTASTIC, thoroughly enjoyable and also a very reasonably priced. We were quite disappointed not to be eating on the 3rd night as we were eating with family in Worcester. Our breakfasts were cooked to order and served piping hot - mmm!! Our twin room was spotlessly clean and full of the character associated with an old building - uneven floors, walls and ceilings - it was just lovely. We will definitely stay again.

Just up the road from Goodrich Castle (see my review). Had an excellent supper: you can mix and match à la carte and daily bar specials if you wish. Local pork belly was delicious but the star attraction has to be a desert with the longest name for a dish I’ve ever encountered. If you’re ready: “Chocolate Ganachè with Salted Vanilla Fudge on a Buttery Base with White Chocolate and Hazelnut Mousse and Raspberry Bursts”. Lovely, by the way. And so to breakfast. This, alas, was something of a Fred Karno’s Army production, as not only was the milk off (to be fair, it was a July heat wave), but the “just delivered” replacement milk was similarly tangy. Cue a rush to the village stores by the staff to get some of the properly refrigerated stuff. So, overall a 4 rating, as I think this place is generally pretty good (certainly it’s very good value) and the staff were charming. But perhaps a word with the dairyman might be in order?

Room Tip: Note that the room showers have TWO switches: the one on the shower unit itself and ALSO a hanging c...

we were recommended to go here for a sunday lunch following a canoeing trip on the Wye. I had driven past it beforehand, and it did look inviting......so, off we went. it was a very hot sunny day, and the bar area was almost empty - only a table of 2.... so we got some drinks and discussed the menu with the bar maid. I offered to give her a card to set up a tab but she declined. so we sat down......it was about 1.10/1.15....after a short while, she came back to say that they had just taken a table of 30 in the restaurant, and chef wasn't taking any more orders till 2, and that it would be well over an hour before we could expect our meal....so does the kitchen produce 30 meals an hour??? its quite a big looking hotel, with restaurant, bar, and garden, and its unbelievable that the chef can only do 30 meals in an hour....I suppose on the positive side, she came to tell us at an early stage, and didn't leave us, but its just an incredibly poor way to run/manage an eaterie. I can imagine what Alan Sugar would say...."so you had people in, who were recommended, who wanted to spend money...and you turned them away!!"
for the record, the menu looked good with a lot of tempting choices, but the place wasn't very welcoming, it wasn't attractively furnished, and im always a bit concerned at supposedly up market places that have sky sports in the bar....even if it was the last day of the British Open.
so we found a pub up the road called the Cross Keys which is just excellent....see my linked review!!
