“Lovely Sunday lunch”
Reviewed 28 May 2014

Over recent months the Priory has gone from strength to strength. My partner and I made the mistake of going somewhere else for lunch last Sunday, each time we do so (getting increasingly rare!) we find ourselves saying "this isn't as good as The Priory".
Lovely staff, very responsive to whatever is needed, the food is good value for money and plenty of it.

“Good food and great service”
Reviewed 25 May 2014

Excellent food and staff are very friendly. Good menus and specials board. Sunday lunch is best in the area. We also held our wedding reception here last November and the day was fantastic and thanks to kristina and staff, nothing was too much trouble. Would recommend for any function as the place has a lovely atmosphere and always a great welcome.

“Regular Customer as I joined the Golf Course partly based on the food”
Reviewed 13 April 2014

I've often visited Lakeside Golf course over recent years. Some time back a previous owner ran the restaurant with gorgeous cheese on he cauliflower. Owners changed hands and its now also the place to pay green fees for the golf - on offer at £5 for 9 holes may I add. I noticed golf members could get a discount at the restaurant so I joined for just £50/yr which gives 50% off green fees - worth it just for savings on the lovely food.

The Priory comfortably exceeds my expectations based on prices - I've tried most of the menu. Its a nice relaxed setting to eat suited and very family friendly. There is not much I would wish done to improve about the place. The bar has a nice range of beers, in the summer there is an outside patio to drink, a peaceful go at your own pace venue in all departments. I've never yet been here under any ownership and witnessed annoying or complaining customers and the atmosphere has always been relaxed. The current owner is keen to make the experience happy. Your probably reading this review wondering if you will like it- well for English food trust me you will. Don't pay any attention to the bad reviews the writers have possibly seen the sun and mistook it for a full moon and a reason to venture out.

Just a bit about the golf course. Its spring now and the ground staff are starting to get it ready for the summer. Its quite a challenging course for 9 holes and recent better direction arrows help on the way around. Fairways are good maybe not wide enough for my accuracy, some annoying trees here and there. The course professional I would highly recommend - the lessons are sometimes done playing a few holes together and suggestions are conveyed very well. Value for money in the price range I would give the food and presentation maybe 8.5/10 The golf course is among the better 9 hole courses a bit tougher than one would like for beginners but thats always a challenge. Lakeside was an 18 hole course until about 2012 however it now functions well with only 9.

Note to golfers who like a meal and a short game ;- to get a similar experience of food and 9 hole golf on an easier course try Castell Coch Golf course, Tongwynlais, Cardiff 9 x par 3, with nearby the Lewis Arms for food. Not as good as the Priory but an occasional change of setting for me.
