“Relaxing & away from the hustle & bustle”
Reviewed 9 April 2012

We spent a wonderfully relaxing week at Drift apartments and enjoyed this beautiful complex as well as the unspoilt beauty of the beach which goes on forever and not a highrise in sight.
We stayed in a 3 bedroom ground floor apartment which meant walking onto the balcony and jumping right into the enormous lagoon pool. This is a great location if you just want some peace and recreation.Although day trips out into the surrounding area's gives you plenty of things to do. The complex is well maintained, modern and our apartment was awesome.

We were delighted overall with our time in Casuarina. Fantastic spot that is convenient and close to enough while still being secluded and private. The 3bdrm apartment we booked suited us well and we were thrilled at the prospect of having the pool right off the veranda.

The apartment was nicely appointed, but not so overdone that we were nervous about making ourselves at home. Nice fittings in the kitchen that made cooking and serving up easy.

My kids were delighted as there were bunnies all over the property - obviously native and being a bit displaced by the development, but quite tame and so the kids were thrilled to feed them lettuce and watch them hippety hop about the place.

We can't fault the apartment itself. The only issues really were those that are under the jurisdiction of the body corporate/property managers.

1) The BBQ area had two BBQs but only one of them was working the whole time we were there, so it was a bit of a bun fight getting on it at night.
2) The pool was lovely and big but it needed cleaning - it was visibly green in a number of areas
3) the spa pool, which was very popular with kids and adults alike was absolutely gross. It was so filthy kids were scratching their names into the tiles. We were in it a couple of times with the bubbles on, so it was not very noticeable but the next time we got in, the water was still and that's when I saw the state of it. I felt sick and would not let my kids back in it. Disgraceful, considering how easy it is for bacteria to build up in spas at the best of times.

We spoke to a real estate agent whilst there and learned the body corporate fees at that complex are very high compared to some of the others around the area. My advise to the owners would be to come down hard on the management of the place. If you are paying those kinds of fees weekly, your guests should expect all aspects of the grounds to be flawless, especially the pool BBQ area and spa, as these are the major drawcards over other places nearby.

That said, the place is in a superb location, offers a much better rate and value than the hotel resorts in the same area and we could not fault the apartment itself. Hopefully the owner will read this and start asking the management some questions!

We'd definitely go back for a value family holiday but might be inclined to check out some of the other places to stay in the area before going back to Drift Apartments.

Casuarina is a fantastic place for a holiday, only a short drive to the Gold coast but far enough away to make it a quiet and relaxing location.

The beaches are fantastic and the services at Salt or Cabarita cover pretty much everything you will need for quiet time or a getaway with the kids.

There are plenty of accomodation options at Casuarina, from 5 star hotels to homes and apartments. in this case we stayed at Drift apartments because we needed 3 rooms.

The agent was excellent and ensured we got the swim up pool we asked and payed for. The apartment though was a little tired and in need of some tlc.

From talking to the service staff its a bit of hit and miss as some apartments are well maintained and others not so.

The pool needs some major work and obviously the body corporate is reluctant to get it fixed if no one is losing their rental income. Location though cannot be faulted, literally 2min to the beach.

Overall a good location and a room that for the price was worth the money.

My family and I immensly enjoyed our stay in the 3bdrm Villa. All living in the villa was on the ground level with the bedrooms upstairs however in one of the double bedrooms, an area to relax was had, with a couch tucked away to the side of the room. A fabulous fully equiped kitchen enabling easy entertaining to the open plan living area - I could actually live here, the villa is as big as a townhouse.

Gorgeous bathrooms, 3 toilets in total, a bath in the ensuite with a sliding window to veiw goings-on outside. A BBQ on the main outdoor living area with easy access off the living area with massive sliders to throw open.

It takes a good stroll (15-20 mins) to the village where the main check in/out office, small cafe/amenity shop and where a few laid back restaurants are located. A 15 minute walk along the beach in the opposite direction is the 'Salt' village with further accommodation and restaurants.

Drift was VERY quiet when we stayed, so good for a relaxing getaway. The acommodation was so great that I would return just for this.

We stayed in a 1 bedroom apartment which had no view of the fantastic pool and bbq area. Instead, our 1 metre-wide balcony provided a view of the villas, still under construction across the street.

The long-life milk provided was a month out of date. The block out curtain in the living room had mould on the back of it.

Checking in on a Saturday required using an intercom outside an office a couple of kilometres away. There was no face to face contact with any staff.

Drift was a 20 minute walk from either Salt (where there are shops, bars, bottle-shops, restaurants etc) or the main facilities at Domain at Casuarina.
So, if you don't have a car.. or don't want to use your car.. this is a bit out of the way.

We stayed 3 nights in a 3 bedroom Drift Villa with our daughter, son-in-law and children 3 & 18 months in early August.
The villa was modern, well appointed and beautifuly clean. The kitchen (well stocked with crockery, glassware and utensils), dining and lounge opened out onto an enclosed outdoor area complete with barbeque. Unfortunately the outdoor areas in our block did not have any of the winter sun we were seeking. A villa on the opposite side of the street would have suited better.
The bedrooms are all upstairs. A double room with plenty of wardrobe space, TV and sofa. Next to this room a twin single room with TV. Along the hall the bathroom and the master bedroom with a small balcony (great for drying washing), ample wardrobes and drawers, air con, ensuite with twin basins and plenty of drawers and cupboards to store toiletries. The bath is enclosed in the shower area with a sliding window alongside. A nice touch for a relaxing soak.
The villas are a pleasant 5 walk to the beach and 15 minutes to the shop, cafe, restaurant, bar and recreation facilities.

We had a relaxing family break by the pool ! We enjoyed the magnificent facilities
almost by ourselves .. A sunny pool deck and sliding doors that opened right up
so the room was almost an extension of the pool. The kids swam up for lunch.
Great new rooms and the best bbq ,pool & spa that you could imagine.

The only slight negatives are that it is very new and almost no other guests so a bit
quiet for the kids liking!! (some would see this as a positive)

Also off site check in as Santai was a minor inconvenience !!

I almost forgot gym membership and pool squad sessions were included at the rec
centre which four of us used for no additional charge each day which was great.
There is also a great little bar restaurant there as well which I used myself while the
others were at the gym.

Overall great value at a really affordable price and very fond memories as I type this review.
