We stayed here for three nights in August. It was the highlight of our 2 week long trip through Quebec. The view from the condo was stunning and there were lovely, well-maintained walking trails throughout the property. We were able to see whales from the shore. You really feel like you are in the wilderness, but you are just a few minutes from the town of Escoumins. I am so glad that we stayed here rather than in Tadoussac, which seemed quite crowded and touristy in comparison. It is worth the extra drive.

I have reviewed Chalets and condos for this same organization and found them to be excellent in location, cleanliness and value. However, this location, which I believe is used as a spill over in the event they have filled the others, is substandard. The location is outside of Les Escoumin, and because there was no lighting to indicate the road leading to the cabins, it was difficult to find at night, There is no fresh water to the cabins, only salt water, the cabin was cramped and not cleaned to the same standards as the others, and the construction of the building seems to be completed in a rush. The cost was $150 per night. As I said previously, these units are not to the standards of Les Chalets de l'Anse-a-Jos or l'Anse-a-Yves which I highly recommend.

This was our second trip to Essipit. If you love being next to the ocean and watching whales, then you'll love it here. I came here the first time in 2004 and appreciated it for the safety and comfort it provided for my two small children. They were able to watch the whales from the safety of the condo living room. As well, the surrounding area is very well-maintained and has many fenced in walkways across the rocks, making hiking easier, especially for families with small children. The condo is comfortable, functional and clean. The beds were comfortable, but the pillows were not. Binoculars and a firelog for the fireplace are provided. Internet is available, but you need to bring your own cable. As well, the condo manual is in French only.

Regarding the advertised unobstructed view of the bay, it was not unobstructed. The trees need to be cut back since they definitely obstructed the view. When I saw a whale in the distance while looking out the living room window, and tried to get a closer look with the binoculars, I lost sight a few times because of trees that were in the way. It was quite frustating.

Room Tip: Bring your own pillows since the ones they have are small and uncomfortable. The condo we had was...

We have been to Essipit 3 times in the past 9 years and have nothing but positive things to say about our experiences.

On our first visit in 1999 we stayed in one of the A-frame Chalets. Being older they are not as nice as the Condos but our Chalet was clean and it was enjoyable staying in an A-frame. Each Chalet had a fire pit and it was enjoyable to sit by an evening fire and look out at the water.

On our second trip in 2002 we stayed in the newly constructed Condos. Our condo was spacious, had 2 bedrooms and a full kitchen - very nice! Outside we discovered that there were trails which would lead us to different areas of the beautiful rocky waterfront. From our condo and outside on the rocky shore we were treated to an unbelievable number of whale sightings. The larger fin and blue whales stayed farther out while Minke and other whales sometimes surfaced within 100 ft of the shore in front of our condo! We also saw porposes and seals daily. BRING YOUR BINOCULARS for the best viewing and just sit on the shore. We found on this trip we had a much better experience seeing whales from the shore than by taking a whale watching boat (which we also did).

On our third trip in 2006 we again stayed in the Condo's and nothing had changed except we did not see as many whales from shore but the whales we did see were Beluga's.

My wife and I travel yearly to different areas of North America and this is one of our favorite trips. The whale watching can be phenominal from the shore or on a tour. The condo's are very nice and clean. We would recommend a trip to the seafood store at the bottom of the hill on the right as you enter town for fresh local seafood to cook back at the Condo or Chalet.

Our only difficulties have stemmed from our minimal French speaking ability. With Essipit's improved website and more english speaking employees at the check-in center on each subsequent trip this has become a non issue.

Looking for an alternative to Tadoussac we found an offer for whalewatching and accomodation in Escoumins.
It´s a community called Essipit. We stayed in one of the condos which are build on the bank of St.Lawrence river. With nice weather this must be an execellent place to look out for whales. Too bad that we got a like foggy day although it was still September. But the condos are highly recommended because they are spacious and superbly furnished. And the rates at that time were really low. So its the alternative to Tadoussac which is a 20 minutes drive away. The whalwathing tour which leaves from Bergeronnes is also recommended. We were lucky to watch 2 bluewhales !
