“Okay but the spice shops are cheaper.”
Reviewed 15 April 2014

It's a tourist trap where local guides get a kick back for taking you there. A good choice and the prices are not extortionate. Go to Kandy or the next market, the spices are far cheaper.

“Very nice....but”
Reviewed 10 March 2014

I had a nice tour here...the grounds are pretty and the tour was interesting. The demonstration (including massages) were interesting and, yes, did tip the guide helpers who actually did the massage. I don't remember tipping the guide though.

The shop is very, very expensive. I continue to enjoy at least two of the products I bought here...the Spice Tea --so refreshing-- and the depilatory --so much better than any commercial product.

Would I stop again...probably not. Not sure if you can buy the same products in other, less expensive stores, but I would give it a shot.

“See Spices of Sri lanka in a small Garden”
Reviewed 25 October 2013

New paradise spice garden is on your way to Kandy, just before you come to Mawanella town.
This spice garden is very well maintained and personally supervised by the owner who is amember of the Lions club as well as being a Rotarian.
There is also a restaurant which seves good Sri Lankan food at reasonable prices.

“Nice place but a tourist trap”
Reviewed 21 October 2013

Stopped by this place on the way to the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage. Beautiful garden, and I was able to see, touch and smell the plants. The tour had a lecture period where the tour guide showed examples of the "medicines" made from the plants in the garden and how it is used. It was pretty interesting. The tour ended in a little shop with their "medicines" which were wayyy overpriced but which souvenirs aren't. I was open minded and bought one or two items that are yet to be used. Overall an ok visit.

“Awful tourist trap”
Reviewed 26 September 2013

This, by far, was the worst part of our holiday to Sri Lanka.

It had the potential to be very interesting, but unfortunately the guide was just there to rush you round and tell you how they used the various spices. Of course, these products were then available for you to buy at ridiculously high prices in the shop at the end. Before getting to the shop, however, you are 'treated' to a massage which you are also expected to pay for (they tell you how much is acceptable, which of course is a lot). The only purpose of this place is to extract as much money from tourists as possible.

If you're filthy rich and enjoy being fleeced out of your money then this is the place for you. If you're not then stay well away, I simply cannot do justice to how terrible this place is.
