Seldom are my expectations exceeded when going on vacation but this was a first. The resort is a place for relaxation, fun, family and also romance. The butler is a nice touch and you can organize your daily activities with him. The beach breakfast was the highlight!

I would suggest to book directly with White Pearl Resort. The helicopter transfer is part of the establishment. To avoid hassle or problems avoid travel agents (our booking was "lost in translation" with major wrong times and dates thanks to Thompson tours!).

The helicopter transfer from/to Maputo is very convenient and pleasant with a birds eye view of the landscape and animals.

I would like to commend our butler, Aboo for his outstanding service. His gentle demeanor and friendly smile was the cherry on top of a lovely establishment :)

Stayed for 5 nights.
Its a modern luxury chic beach resort. Pristine Location. Extremely modern, sleek design. The design blends in with the surrounding and you always get a pleasant and relaxing vibe about the ambiance.
There are so many common areas that you are spoilt for choice. Though almost 50% of the 20 odd rooms were occupied, Nowhere did we found more than a couple of guests. Which is not surprising considering that there are miles and miles of private soft sand beach, there are two pools, couple of lounges and 2 other common areas where one can just relax, sunbathe, or enjoy the shade while soaking in the view.

From the time we were received at the Maputo airport to take the helicopter transfer till our departure from Maputo it was an exemplary experience.

Everything about the stay was as close to perfect and the staff and management did go out of their way to make it special. The service was never intrusive, yet it was bespoke.

Welcome - When you land at the resort, you are welcomed by the full team who u will be interacting with over your stay.

The diving spots are superb. Very pristine reefs of live coral and well inhabited Amongst the best diving I have come across. Dru the dive instructor and activities manager is quite informative and professional. The dive center and equipment is superbly maintained and top class. I dived 3 times and every dive was thrilling. Saw turtles during our dive.
The dolphin explorer was superb where we swam with the dolphins for almost an hour as they played along circling us, swimming with us, jumping over us before taking off.
The snorkeling was super as expected with the crystal blue visibility and well populated reefs.
Even though we walked on the beach for miles every day, there were sadly no turtles on the beach or baby turtles making the way out to the sea even though we were in the prime of turtle nesting season.
They don't have a spa but provide for massages in the room and the masseuse worked wonders to completely rejuvenate me.

Jonas our butler was always a call away and he would do everything possible to meet our requests. These guys do not know the meaning of NO. They always have a smile, meet all your requests and always go for the little extra and unexpected small attention to detail to make your stay pleasant.
Gary the Resort Manager was always around the resort making sure the minutest of details were being looked after and making sure everyone's stay was exceeding expectations. He is there at the activity center, taking our critique at the pool bar for sundowners, exchanging stories in the lounge, in the dining areas, wherever there is a guest, he manages to be there and everywhere. He even does some devilish cocktails and gets them over to you while you are just relaxing by the pool.

Food - the Chef Dennis, did his best in spite of our Vegetarian requirements and always made sure our requests were met even from out of the menu. We tried some delicious Portuguese, Mozambican and Spanish food. However, the Menu's need more options for Vegetarians. The fact that Vegetarians might be tired of Soup/Salad for every dinner before the main course is something that needs to be looked into. Also the lunch menu has even fewer options for Vegetarians. But I guess for most other guests they were spoilt for choice and quality of seafood
Breakfast though needs a lot of improvement, lacks substance though the presentation is quite smart and avoids wastefulness. It could also be that the expectations were so much after all other areas being Super 5 star, that the breakfast specially the continental breakfast fell a bit short.
We had different dining experiences - in the privacy of the room, breakfast at the beach, in a personal library/lounge, by the pool bar. A Super Plus!

The rooms are extremely spacious and each have their outdoor showers and Jacuzzi pools.
However, privacy is an issue for the outdoor areas and you would do well to always take the last room on the end of each tier. They are doing something about it by growing more vegetation around the rooms and the foliage with time should do enough to provide the privacy that the outdoor areas need.
We managed to get our room changed to the extreme end and it was a major relief to have complete privacy.
Conditions of room - The coastal beach access causes heavy wear and tear. The Resort will really need to keep their socks up to make sure the conditions don't deteriorate and will need continuous maintenance all the time.

The helicopter transfer back was an experience flying over the coast and ocean, as you can spot sharks, dolphins, turtles from the air. While going over the Maputo Elephant Reserve you can see the elephants, hippos, quite a flight it was.

I think this resort is a gem with a couple of insinificant flaws and when polished further has the potential to be a flawless gem.

Room Tip: Choose the rooms at the end of each tier of rooms for privacy

We spent an incredible week at this resort a few weeks ago for our honeymoon (end Feb 2012). The accommodation is so very pretty, the vibe so relaxing and the view absolutely beautiful. The staff at White Pearl Ponta Mamoli was so warm and kind and treated us like royalty. The food is so great that my mouth starts to water just thinking of it. We swam with dolphins, enjoyed many delicious cocktails and really had a super relaxing time. We definitely recommend this to any couple looking for the perfect romantic getaway.

Room Tip: All the rooms are the same with a private splash pool each, how amazing is that!!!

My spouse and i travelled to White Pearl in January 2012. It was truly magnificent.

The resort is very new (a few months old), and beautifully decorated in soft grey, teal and white. The chalets are very clean and tidy, and particularly spacious. The rooms are equipped with flat screen televisions, an i-pod docking station, mini bar, and air-conditioning.

Each of the 22 chalets also has their own private plunge pool, which is such a luxury, and great if you want to just quickly cool off without walking down to one of the main pools at the resort.

The resort is situated on the coast, far away from any villages / shops etc, so you are guaranteed to have peace and quiet and not be harrassed by any beach vendors.

The swimming beach is manned by a super life-guard, and the water is very warm, whilst still having great waves for body surfing.

We particularly enjoyed snorkelling on the far right of the beach, where there is a small reef. The water is waist height, and we saw plenty of marine creatures right there.

The Dive Centre, run by Dru, is excellent. The equipment was all in perfect condition, and we did 3 super dives while we were there. We were lucky enough to swim with Dolphins twice as well, once on our way back from a dive.

The food at White Pearl is exceptional. Stuart, the head chef, really is extremely talented and was very accommodating, and made every effort to cater to everyone's tastes each evening. I can honestly say that there was not one dish that was less than perfect. Breakfast starts with a continental / fruit / muesli / yoghurt tray and is followed by a hot breakfast of your choice. Always delicious! The dinners ranged from seafood platters, to roast chicken, to pastas, to fillet. We had a starter, main and dessert every evening, and we never felt overfed or too full. Perfect portion sizes with incredible taste.

The wine selection was also very good.

Hope, is a super lady, who will give you the best massage you'll ever have. She has a rare talent!

We took a helicopter option to fly from Maputo to Ponta Mamoli. It was a beautiful flight, 30 minutes, which takes you over the nature reserve on the other side of the resort. Well worth it, compared to the drive from Maputo, which would take at least 3 hours (and you need a 4x4).

Each chalet also comes with an allocated butler. They are there as your single point-of-call for anything which you may need. They will organise things for you, and ensure that everything is always replenished when finished, and that you have whatever you may need.

We will definitely be back - this place was such a treat, and by far the best beach resort i have ever experienced.

Room Tip: Room 22 has a view of the nature reserve and of the sea. All of the rooms have got super views thoug...

We just came back from the 8 days in White Pearl Beach Resorts in Ponta Mamoli in Mozambique. The new resort is finished and opened in September 2011 and offers a maximum of 44 guests superb hospitality. Manager Gary and his team made our stay unforgettable and we will definitely be back. The rooms (villas) are beautiful with outdoor shower, indoor bath, great big and soft bed, airco, hairdryer and coffee/tea facilities and minibar. Outside on your deck two wonderful and luxurious sun beds and a private plunge pool!. Prices all reasonable, like a coke for only 20 Rand, bottle of South African Estate wine for around 350 Rand and water is complimentary.
We flew in from Johannesburg, a 40 minute flight to Maputo and then took the brand new helicopter for our trip (half an hour) to the resort. If you can afford this, do it!! (around Rand 3000 pp return flight) A great trip over de elephant park, we saw great numbers of elephants, hippos and flamengos on our way to the resort and a great experience to fly in a helicopter. The pilot is a very nice guy, who is very willing to explain a lot and showed us the spectacular coast line of Mozambique.
The welcome of Gary and his team was overwhelming, cold towels, tour around the resort and full explanation about the villa and our private butler George. We called him smiling George as he was always smiling!
The general areas consist of 2 swimming pools, restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner (inside or - as we loved - outside), pool bar for snacks and drinks (there is a daily menu with salads and snacks served all day), beach bar, reception area and dive centre. The resort is set up in such a way that you’ll always feel you have a private place wherever you lay down on the great sunbeds and gazebos..

Internet and TV in the rooms were not working yet, although who needs tv in paradise?? Gary expects this will be working over the next months. Next door to the reception there is a working tv, but we have ofcourse not used this area. In the airco reception area there is wifi so easy to once a day check emails and the news in the reception area with comfortable couches and enough working space.

Dru and Lorenzo manage the dive centre. Lorenzo took us on a breath taking dolphin trip and we actually have been swimming with these magnificent, curious and playful animals. Thanks Lorenzo for this unforgettable afternoon!
You can also book snorkling and diving in the dive shop. We took a few dives and saw sharks, turtles and thousands of colourful fish. Some South African guests – very experienced divers – said this is one of the best diving spots in the world! Rates for diving are reasonable, approx. Rand 650 per dive.
As there are strong waves the boat take off and landing are spectacular (see my pictures)

We must compliment management and owners for hiring as many local staff members as possible. It gives a positive contribution to the poor Mozambique and note that the resort has 128 staff members (at a max of 44 guests…) Staff is so friendly, we actually wanted to take Imelda and Vicente back home with us. How sweet they were! Say hello to them from us when you go. Of course this means a lot of training and its charming to see how well they are all trying to make your stay as wonderful as possible. With these reasonable rates (compared to other Mozambique resorts who can go as high as $ 1500 pppn) service is excellent and still getting better. We thought its charming and it gives the resort also a relaxing atmosphere, whether you would like to dress up, or have dinner in a polo shirt, all is ok.

Breakfast is very charming as well with a tray full of various rolls, yoghurt (and delicious cruesli) fresh fruit, fresh juices and a warm menu to choose from. From full English breakfast to omelettes whatever you want they can do. Chef Steward is a great chef!!! Very friendly and open to any suggestions. Although there is a menu to choose from they can do everything. A group of SA guests had planned a Bollywood party, and he made indian curry and other special food for them. Due to previous Tripadvisor reviews ofcourse I had to try his famous pizza, and indeed….it was great!! Being in Mozambique means prawns. My husband alsmost had them every evening and the piri piri prawns are fantastic, but the chef even surprised us with a sea food platter with the greatest king prawns we have ever seen.

Being in the hotel industry myself, you keep on wondering about the enormous logistic challenges the resort faces. A kitchen chef cannot just call a supplier to order some extra stuff. It has to come from either SA or Maputo and deliveries come in like every 2 weeks. Amazing that they can then offer a 3 course menu with 3 starters to choose from, 3 maincourses and 3 desserts. But again, if you fancy something else, if they can they will do everything for you! On the other hand, it can also mean that something is out of stock but again, we felt this is the charm of the resort and we only can have enormous respect for the way things are done.

Surprises!! – they keep on exceeding expectations!!! Roses on the bed, a sundowner party in one of the top villas, a drink at the pool, beach party with open fire – Gary and his team really go all the way.

Wild life – During dec and jan the turtles lay their eggs on the beach. In aug, sep and oct you’ll definitely see the whales and they organise whale spotting tours. The sea is full of life with thousands of the most beautiful colourful fish, sharks, turtles and stingrays. There is great respect for wildlife and guests should do respect this as well.

In Summary a resort which is exceeding expectations by far!

Restful, comfiest beds around, beautiful setting, azure seas, white sand, willing & helpful staff, helicopter transfer.

Bliss.

The setting for the renovated resort is wonderful, nestled on the hillside, we had a room higher up, which we enjoyed as we got to walk to and from the room, but golf buggys are available, and the view was divine. We chose the helicopter transfer, which is well worth the money, and saw elephants on the way to the resort. Its a wonderfully picturesque area once you get away from Maputo!

Food - we found it all excellent. Breakfast - the normal choices of eggs etc and pastries, lunch could be had down the main restaurant, or tapas style round the pool, then evening meal was 3 choices, and with me being fairly vegge, (read as fussy about meat!!!) I had a wonderful meal every night. The chef Stuart is always in hand, a great bloke, and open to whatever you want to eat - he came round and asked your preferences. One night, sick of fine dining, we asked for pizza, and along came a very, very tasty pizza delivered to the door with 2 beers and popcorn for our DVD night in the room. i would recommend talking through your preferences though if you have any, so every meal is what you want.

Staff - all very eager, new local staff and excellent! Management are all very hands on and active, working hard at this new resort. We had a butler Jorge, who arrived every day, looked at us, and said...so, you're doing nothing again? He had a lot of time on his hands with us.

Activities - we don't dive, but wished that we could as we overheard some amazing sights that were had on the reefs. I think you will love it if you dive, rather than doing absolutely nothing apart from veging like we did! But we still loved it.

The DSTV wasn't working & wi-fi was patchy, and only in reception, which wasn't too much of an issue, but needs to be sorted (but welcome to Africa!!)

One word to note was that we arrived from joburg, and as Brits, had to have a visa which you paid for at Maputo airport. This took FOREVER!! It's about £50.00 each and you need to fill out a form, picture taken and fingerprint by 3 guys who have 1 speed....slow! So just be wary of about an hours wait, and have your money ready - dollars or rand.

Then welcome to your relaxing holiday!

Room Tip: We thought higher up the better

The only reason this did not get an excellent rating is that the lodge is new and one or two systems were not up and running yet and a couple of small issues to. The doors officially only opened September 2011.

The room we had was excellent. It looked out over the ocean and had direct access to the beach. Some units were higher up with a better view but no direct beach access. Each unit has its own plunge pool and the rooms are nice and private. All have aircons very necessary in the summer months. The room was kept spotlessly clean. The resort has 22 rooms (so there were about 44 people at the time) but is spread out so we always felt as though it was fairly empty and that added to the feeling of seclusion.

The beach is a long 2 km stretch of white sand where you can go for walks during the day and spotting turtles at night during the correct season. The water was wonderfully clear and warm (27C) at the time we were there. Making time in the waves a must.

A butler is provided and contactable on a cell phone (each room has a cell phone with the butlers number stored which was novel). Anything you need you can phone the butler, be it in room dining, a bottle of champagne or even organising trips or spa sessions. Probably do not need a butler but it is a nice touch.

The staff and management were very friendly and very helpful.Be it the waiters or managers they were always ensuring you were comfortable. Service was a bit slow on the one night when the restaurant was particularly busy but this was the only time we experienced slow service- the rest of the time all our needs were met quickly and we never had to wait for food or drinks with our meals.

Dinners consisted of a choice of 3 starters and 3 main courses. The quality of the food was excellent, and we always found something we liked on the menu. Be it seafood or steak it was always great. (There was always a vegetarian option as well).

Breakfasts consisted of fruit, cereal and pastries plus a choice of hot breakfast. The hot breakfast options were slightly limited. If you enjoy eggs, bacon and sausage for breakfast you will not be disappointed but I felt that there needed to be a couple of additional options for breakfast for mornings when you did not feel like fruit or egg. THe quality was once again good.

Lunches consist of a tapas menu. This was my least favourite meal, and believe that once again more options are required. I also felt the quality of lunches was not to the same standard as the dinners and breakfasts.

We were pleasantly surpirsed with the cost of alcohol and wine at the resort. They have not tried to charge exhorbitant prices (as most other lodges we've been to usually do), and wines cost about what you'd pay in your better Johannesburg restaurants.

As we don't dive I can't comment on dive sites, but we did do a dolphin safari- unfortuantely no dolphins that day but we did get to snorkel on a reef that was very alive with loads of fish.

There are two ways to get to White Pearl. We flew into Maputo and tokk a helicopter. Total time from taking off in Johannesburg to being in the resort was just over two hours- a very pleasant way to travel! Other geusts drove to the border post and then took a shuttle which takes about 2 hours from the border post. If you can afford it I suggest the helicopter option.

The services that were not working at the time of our trip were the TV and WiFi in the rooms- not sure if there was internet anywhere else. We were able to make cellphone calls and download data to our phones- (the data transfer was a bit slow).

The resort is new and I believe it will become even better over time, and the ratings will all reflect 'excellent'- just the few niggling issues that kept the rating lower.

If you are looking for a beautiful setting, where you can unwind, put your legs up and get through some reading then we can recommend this for you.
