Stayed as a family of 5 (3 teenagers) for 6 nights at end July/early August. We had rooms 6 and 7 which although didn't quite have the views of the main building still had a sea view; fantastic balcony area; wonderful privacy; close to the pool and rooms which made us feel very close to nature (including the cows which occasionally wandered on the grounds from the beach and the resident Pelican!). Rooms large; clean and comfortable. The staff stood out - all friendly (many locals) and Mario and Don could not do too much for us from organising tuk tuks (thank you Gomes!), lending beach shoes and sorting excellent trips to Pigeon Island; dolphin watching and to Trincomalee. We ate with the hotel twice - both times on the beach and once a fabulous beach BBQ. This is not a resort hotel, and it is a 20 minute tuk tuk ride to the restaurant area and there is no bar and other facilities but it is an excellent friendly up market B and B which serves good food (excellent breakfasts!). Thank you for your hospitality!

Thank you for our feedback and we are very happy to hear are staff looked after you well and were able to make all the arrangements your needed. We have a more personalized and relaxed setting and offer an authentic experience of the area. Although Nilaveli beach is 20 minutes from Trincomalee town there are some larger hotels 5 minutes from us that have bars and restaurants that you can visit.

The rooms and the house are airy, well lit and comfortable. The highlight is that it feels very connected to the surrounding nature. We could hear the birds and the wind in the trees and the waves in the morning which was a highlight. The staff are friendly and helpful. The hotel needs to offer more beach side facilities (comfy lounge chairs with mattresses and towels and big umbrellas, the possibility of dinner or drinks by the beach), especially since the sun is quite strong and the area is so remote. The garden needs an uplift.

Thank you for your feedback and we do now offer dinners by the beach and lagoon regularly. Work on the gardens in ongoing and we will look into the facilities by the beach. We are glad that you liked the open plan design of the property and airy rooms and were happy with the service of our staff.

The place had a nice upmarket beach feel. It was very quiet and quite isolated from the crowds of the more popular beach areas. The staff were helpful. Breakfast was standard fair. Dinner was expensive by local standards and nothing special. Views were lovely, especially from the bathroom of room 2!
The rooms in the main house could do with better sound proofing. Beware room 3 :the bathroom is separated from the main foyer by only a timber screen, so people can hear you shower or use the toilet.
Wifi was very slow.
In summary- a small classy beach boutique hotel which is good for relaxing in privacy and isolation for a few days.

Room Tip: Not room 3- bathroom does not feel private

Thank you for your review and feedback which we have looked into. We have increased our dinner options and with dinners on the beach or overlooking the lagoon as well as introducing some less expensive Sri Lankan style options. We are also adding a glass window to the room 3 bathroom that can be closed by guests during use if needed. We are glad you enjoyed your stay with us and appreciate your comments as we are constantly looking at how we can improve the experience for our guests.

We stayed in this charming boutique hotel located just north of Nilaveli. Overall this was one of the best places we had stayed in our entire trip to Sri Lanka. The owner/manager greeted us as soon as we arrived with warm hands an hospitality. We spent 4 nights in their room 1 which was a deluxe double. The room had a balcony, which overlooked to beautiful ocean. we were treated a beautiful sunrise every morning. The room facilities were very adequate for any boutique hotel offering complementary snacks and beverages. The bathroom is open, it is not clear exactly the purpose of this. I think perhaps its to allow the air to be flow out. It meant that we had to ensure that the light was off when not using it to prevent moths and flies from coming in, but this only served to ensure we were not wasting electricity.
The grounds of the hotel extends to the beach below, a separate pool area, two water features, a restaurant and direct access to a small estuary. There are a number of developments in the hotel which looks like they are aiming to expand their operations which is great to see.
To walk northward the beach is easily accessibly, but to walk southernly you must cross the estuary. There are many ways to but the most enjoyable method we used was to borrow the Kayak in the hotel and scoot across. The hotel itself is located amongst a village off the beaten rack a bit. Exploring the area really made us feel like we were immersed in a real community.
We ate at the hotel on the first night, I had fresh fish which was fresh and tasty. Hard to beat fresh fish. Breakfast every morning was varied and very filling. We thoroughly enjoyed the food here made locally.
The hotel offer tours, we took one from a local chap who took us to pigeon island. It was an enjoyable trip and our guide was really helpful.
Arguable the best thing about this place was the focus on sustainability and involving the local community around where the hotel was situated. Unlike many of the bigger resorts we stayed at this establishment has made a point of employing local staff from the villages around many of whom have little qualifications, or english skills. The aim is the employ them with the skills to help develop them to ensure they don't get left behind in Sri Lanka's growing tourist industry. This approach to tourism was a welcome refreshing change and really made us think about our impact on a community. It, therefore, came as no surprise, that many of the staff in the around the grounds spoke little english. Rather than being a frustration, this meant that any interaction was an opportunity to help them developed their english and problem solving skills which seemed very worthwhile.
This place may have a few edges to smooth out but I cannot say we encountered such a sustainable, warming approach to hoteling in any of our other travels through Sri Lanka or indeed many other places we have travelled. I would encourage anyone in the area to strongly support what this place is trying to do and definitely stay here.

Thank you so much for your detailed review. We are so very happy that you were really able to appreciate all the things that make C Beyond so special for us. The authentic experience of what is still a fairly quiet beach area with an amazing landscape with the hotel designed to connect to this as much as possible. There are a few small issues we are addressing, as you mentioned in the bathrooms and we are planning to introduce windows that can be closed as needed. Our main staff are from the area and have been with us since we opened and are improving their English skills and service is now running smoothly and many other improvement are constantly being made. We are glad you made the most of the kayaks that are available and we also have bikes that can be used to explore the local area too. Thank you for the great comments on our food and we will pass this on to our chef. We really do appreciate your encouraging feedback.

We really enjoyed our stay here. The hotel (with 7 rooms) is quite isolated. My only suggestion is that there should be some lounge chairs on the beach and some umbrellas. The staff was very willing to bring a plastics lounger to the beach but it wasn’t comfortable. If you want to to go to the beach...you are essentially sitting on the sand. There is one little guy you can sit under. As per the other review, the entrance to the beach is located next to a road where many of the locals come to go to the beach.....along with herds of cows. However, we really enjoyed this scene because it was quite authentic vs some of the other beaches with really loud techno music playing. The rooms were great and the outdoor shower in our villa was fantastic. The staff were really nice as well. It’s definitely a relaxing way to spend a couple of days.

Thank you for your review and we are very glad that you enjoyed your stay with us, liked your suite room and were well looked after by our staff. We will definitely look at getting some more umbrellas and making the loungers for the beach more comfy.
