i went to this restaurant / pub a few fridays ago for my godmother's 70th. I thought first of all tht we may have upset the woman that owns it.. as as she went one by one with orders through the party of 12 - she was unbelievably rude... like she really didnt give a damn if we were there or not. I thought we better not say anything as i hadnt booked the table and it was a birhtday.. then noticed that she treated everyone the same. At an average of around £15 a main meal with veg etc and even chips added on to basic meals i was pretty of the decision that that was the last time id go there. shame as i used to like it there... i agree with thew last few reviews. She's so rude and offhand its almost funny. But left sour taste to everyone on our occasion.

Have visited here with the last few owners and on entering was impressed with the redecoration that has been completed - it is very sophisticated. A blackboard proudly proclaims the new owner-couple come from a 30 year restaurant background (and on looking at the menu, have brought upper end restaurant prices with them.)

The menu was heavily focused on fish, with very few non-meat or fish options. My own meal was decidedly average (to be honest of the standard served a chain-restaurant like Harvester Beefeater etc) however my friend said his battered fish was good but not worthy of the price tag. The toffee and date pudding was less than average with a tasteless icecream and really could have been a microwave offering from a budget supermarket.

Service really wasn't good during the evening, despite a good number of staff - had to ask three times on the two occasions we ordered drinks. There was about a 10 minute wait each time, and once the drinks were incorrect (so waited another 10 minutes for the correct ones - 20 minutes in total, when all we ordered was two pints of coke!) A long time to remove plates and nobody seemed interested in receiving new orders.

On settling up at the bar, we quietly and very tactfully complimented the landlady on the new décor but commented that we thought she would appreciate to know that the service hadn't been good. She abruptly and curtly said 'well I know it hasn't been good tonight, but that's just the way it is today.' This certainly wasn't we had expected when we were actually trying to be helpful rather than complaining! Given this response we decided to scrutinise the bill (in view of the drinks fiascos) which wasn't itemised. We asked for a break down of the drinks, to which the landlady appeared very put out and advised she had 'thrown out the tab now'. She rooted through the bin (all we were questioning was being billed for a pint of coke, rather than the half pint we received in error!) and began tapping on a calculator furiously, barely able to even talk to us. After a while she curtly advised 'I really cant be bothered to argue over this' and conjured a lower random number up. We paid, keen to leave. Neither of us had been even vaguely challenging or hostile but received inappropriate rudeness and, to be honest, an attitude of complete distain. Where she got arguing from I haven't got a clue!

We left and both said we wouldn't be revisiting until the ownership changes - (hopefully very soon again.) It really has been a while since I have come across such rudeness and lack of customer care. Check out my other reviews and you will see I am usually very complimentary of local restaurants. My advice would be to go to any other local country pub in the area and steer well-clear of this nasty regimen.

This pub? has just changed hands and the new owners are most unfriendly - to the point of rudeness. The previous owners were fantastic. We belong to the Morgan Classic Car Club and the first Sunday in the month we go there for our lunch and get-together and have done so for over a year. We have always been made to feel most welcome. However, on our last visit when it was under new management we were made to feel anything but. The owner ( I like the description of her in the Farnham Travellers report) made us feel like 2nd class citizens and gave the impression it is a restaurant rather than a pub. If this is the case, maybe there should have been some publicity to explain to customers who have supported the pub in the past. We are taking our custom elsewhere from now on.

The staff were inefficient and poorly trained - no idea where to put cutlery, no idea of the menu content and the head waiter was certainly not what we would expect in a good restaurant. It would have helped if the woman who took our pre dinner drinks had smiled just once.

I agree with another review that it is absolutely ridiculous to charge a separate price and at such a high cost for vegetables - even ordering battered cod and mushy peas (admittedly our cheapest meal), the chips were an extra - we have never come across that in any restaurant. The beef wellington left a lot to be desired also with no choice as to how it is cooked, and the pavlova desert was awful - just hard meringue and no nice gooey centre in sight.

Before we had finished our meal with some of us still drinking wine, the wineglasses were being cleared from our table - the waiters had no hesitation in stretching over the table instead of walking around as one would expect to pick up plates etc.

There was not a single light in the car park to guide us to our cars which was ridiculous as it was late and obviously very dark.

We will never go back and will certainly not recommend it to any of our friends

Having eaten at the previous venue owned by the proprietors in Farnham, we were expecting a certain level of service and quality.
We were highly disappointed by the food and the service and especially the price (be aware all additional foods, i.e. potatoes, vegetables are served at extra cost).

Our main disappointments were:
When we arrived we requested drinks first at the bar. We were told by the sour faced owner that we would have to take our table immediately as drinks would only be served to us there.
We paid approx £20 per main course (plus approx £6 for potatoes and veg each) and each was a disappointment. (Avoid the beef wellington if any of your teeth are not your own).
The so called silver service staff in mini skirts-great if you that's your thing and you are happy for them to spill your drinks in front of you.

Generally we felt a huge sense of lethargy abut the place-won't be going back as there are far better places to eat around Farnham.
