“Rude & Inappropriate waiter”
Reviewed 25 June 2012

Though this hotel is beautiful, well appointed and in an enviable location high in the volcanic mountains of lush, green La Garrotxa, there is a toxic variable here: their employee that functions as maitre d'/waiter/server is absolutely terrible. He has inappropriate behavior with women (on both occasions that I have stayed here - both with female friends, he carried on most unprofessionally, touching us repeatedly, hovering in a cumbersome way and even invited himself to share a bottle of cava after dinner!

I returned this month, thinking he was no longer working there, only to have a very expensive dinner ruined by his lack of knowledge of the wines on their menu and his rudeness at having served us the incorrect bottle, then stating arrogantly that we would be paying for that bottle, though it was not the one we wanted. He actually raised his voice and began to argue with me in a snotty, nasty tone! I felt terribly for the ONE other couple who was spending their money to dine in the restaurant, and there was really no other option than to get up from the table (with my 1st course sitting there) and go upstairs to the front desk and ring the clerk to address the problem with the waiter (who additionally knows very little about food and has no place taking orders at a gastronomic restaurant). After a good talking-to by the desk clerk, he was still very curt with us and banged everything around! He brought us another bottle, which to our surprise when we got the check cost TWICE as much as the original bottle we ordered. I know this seems difficult to believe, it was utterly surreal to me as it was happening.

To add insult to injury, although it seemed more than fair, when we checked out, I asked if from the 95Euro dinner bill, the hotel might comp us the bottle of wine 1) for the hassle of ruining our dinner and 2) because of the principle of the matter that the waiter intentionally replaced the incorrect bottle with one that cost twice as much. The girl at the front desk was lovely, I explained the situation to her and she called the supervisor (the same man who I had to call down to the restaurant the night before!) to ask if she could remove the wine from our bill and he REFUSED. Terrible customer service...

Their food is mediocre and pricey and they get you because you have no other choice because the hotel's 30 mins from the nearest highway, and up a windy, narrow, unlit mountain road, so not exactly convenient to go to a nearby town for dinner (and there would definitely be no wine for the driver!)

Breakfast is included and they serve you a plate of sausages and cheeses and bread and pastry. The fruit and cheese seem to be from the supermarket and the bread and pastries are not fresh. They do not set anything out (not even beverages!), so the (same) one waiter must attend to everyone's constant need for juice, coffee, water, more sugar, more bread, etc. And he's not very attentive.

It really is unfortunate that such a fantastic and special hotel is spoiled by the restaurant you're sort of held hostage to dine at...

Plus the pool needed to be cleaned.

In the event you read this in the future and consider a stay there, you may consider calling to ask if Mohammed (bad waiter guy) is still in the employ of the restaurant.

I can't praise this hotel highly enough. Our room was fantastic, the service was excellent, every member of staff was friendly, helpful, and excellent at their job. It's in the middle of nowhere (or at least, a fifteen minute drive up a private road), so peace is guaranteed. There are six or seven walks from the hotel so if you're feeling energetic you don't even have to leave the grounds. The restaurant food was of the highest order, and breakfast on the terrace was a real pleasure. Stay here if you want to get away from it all in the middle of fabulous scenery. You won't be disappointed.
