After three weeks traveling and enjoying for the first time the diverse landscape and marine life of Queensland, we decided to stay four nights in this most beautiful retreat, celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary. Having traveled in many countries and stayed in many wonderful places, there was no doubt that this was the best choice we made for such a special occasion. Inherent beauties in life are always difficult to describe in few sentences.
It was like out of this world: The setting so remote yet easy to reach, the few private thatched-roof Tree Houses so close to the rainforest and still with view on the ocean. An exceptional quality in all details of the accommodation and services that one usually only finds in a private context. A Host full of dedication to the Retreat, to the diverse form of nature with rare plants, animals, as well as to good and healthy food (most wonderful breakfast). The price is more than reasonable given the location, quality and luxury of the retreat with its marvellous gardens and pool area.
We learned from our Host a lot about the Retreat’s history, Daintree Forest, the best hiking tours, restaurants, and excursions into the tropical rain forest, wild life watching, etc. We had a most inspiring 4 h walk in the Cooper Creek Wilderness guided by Neil, a great expert regarding wildlife, national and local policies of preservation, and aboriginal culture and history. And coming home to the Cockatoo Hill Retreat in the evening, exchanging our mutual experiences of the day with Carmen made our stay even more memorable.
