We visited our daughter who was studying at UCT and this was the perfect location for us to stay. However, the best thing about this Guesthouse is the lovely owners who provide personalized and excellent service. We also loved the daily breakfast in the sunny dining room.

This was the perfect place for us. Everything was great. Charming house, nice hosts and delicious breakfast. Location near UCT was what we needed, and it was easy to get to different sights. I warmly recommend this guesthouse.

I was in Cape Town visiting my son at the University of Cape Town, and stayed at the Carmichael Guesthouse for 5 nights, returning to the US last night. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay there - the house is charming, built in the early 1900's, with high ceilings, large rooms, period furnishings. I especially enjoyed sitting outside in the afternoon, or reading the newspaper in the sitting room, or getting up early to check email (Valarie always brought me coffee). The breakfasts were superb and made to order, and the croissants and rolls were actually imported from France! The breakfast room is all windows that looks out on a blooming hybiscus tree and bird of paradise bushes, and is a very pleasant place to eat and linger. The location is near the UCT campus, and is only a few minutes off of the M3 - a 10 minute drive takes you right downtown and Table Mountain is 15 minutes, so I think the location is a real plus as well. Althought the house was great, the true highlight has to be the owners, Valarie and Yves. They are wonderful to talk to, not just about advice on where to go (ask them about the Olympia Cafe in Kalk Bay - you won't be disappointed), but just to discuss whatever. I really enjoyed talking to them, and after a few days started to think of them as friends rather than as hosts. I cannot recommend the Carmichael highly enough if you are visiting Cape Town.

Dear Todd,

Thank you ever so much for such kind review! Since the sentence "arrived as host, left as friends" is far too often used we tend to avoid it, nevertheless it's a fact at Carmichael Guesthouse and we are glad you felt that way.
It's been an absolute pleasure hosting you. Should we ever come to NM, we'll make sure to pay you a visit, that's for sure! Thanks for the invite.
Keep well. Best regards / Yves

Yves and Valerie are consummate hosts, and they have a beautiful guest house that is exceptionally clean, well-maintained and appointed. Their knowledge of the area and excursion recommendations were a bonus. We would recommend The Carmichael House to anyone, and especially to parents of students studying abroad at the University of Cape Town.

Dear Bob and dear Jill,
Thank you for your comments. It's unfortunate that could not help you when you wanted to extend your stay since we were fully booked but I trust that the rest of your holidays went well.
We wish your daughter a fabulous end of semester at UCT. I am sure that you were glad to see that she is studying in a great environement.
Keep well. All the best / Yves & Valerie

This guesthouse was very comfortable, service was exceptional and the breakfasts were a great way to start adventurous days in Cape Town. The best part, though, is the couple who run the place, who will make you feel like old friends...great people running a great place. Highly recommended.
