This hotel is by any standards a true gem.
We have stayed on 2 previous occasions and one again were not disappointed.
The rooms, food, gardens and pools are excellent.
Under the guidance of Carole and Jane, the staff team make you feel at home and provide service of the highest quality.
Whilst it is just out of town it is perfectly located for so many attractions that it makes an excellent base for touring around.
Thoroughly recommended, we will return again, hopefully soon.

The title describes the very core of the feeling left staying in this hotel. A century old country house is lovely and the atmosphere is very relaxing. The house itself seems to be living - in a positive way - old times. The property is well maintained, but it doesn't try to be state-of-the-art modern, and is comfortable being like that, and good for it! The garden is formal but refreshing and you can have walks there though short ones as it is not that big.
I can imagine how this felt a hundred years ago, now though there are high walls surrounding with barbed wire making the feeling a bit cramped but that is unfortunately the case with every place in South Africa.

You need a car. Though it is well located no matter which way you tend to go, it is out of walking distance.

It is five star rated, but you can't quite compare it with luxury five star hotels. The price is more four star range. Wifi did not work well at any time, breakfast ran out each morning of something whether it was bread or juice or something else. The rooms were clean but not spotless.

Saying all this I still feel the value for money is great, atmosphere excellent, location good and would certainly recommend this to anyone respecting these qualities I mentioned.

I stayed here two nights and really liked it. Very classic country house experience and decent service. My only complaint us that the TV didn't work at all in my room for two days and they did nothing to fix it. Apart from that I highly recommend the place for somewhere to stay that has a very comfortable homely feel to it.

Oh my goodness, I am really sorry you had problems with the television, we have recently rewired to add decoders to all our rooms and we have had some issues. Thank you for your honest feedback, I guarantee the tv will work next time and you'll have a better choice of channels too. Highlands was built in 1900 so feeding new cables through the house is a challenge. I am glad you otherwise enjoyed your stay and we hope to welcome you back.

After several visits to Capetown we were lucky to find this hotel for our last stay. It is located in a residential area and situated in a stunning garden. All rooms are beautifully furnished and comfortable. The garden is lovely and very well looked after. Carole and her team made us feel very welcome and fullfilled all our requests. The quality of food is good and there was always the offer of a good cup of tea once we returned from our tours. During our stay we felt more like acquaintances than paying guests. Carole, Michael and their team are the best hosts to make everyone feel being at home. We are definately returning to Highlands Country House on our next visit and have already praised this retreat to our friends at home.

I went for a conference last week Tuesday and Wednesday and it is so beautiful. The food was of excellent quality and the living rooms were 5-star quality, I can only imagine what the rooms must have looked like. The garden is gorgeous and the detail of this beautiful decorated guest house is something to recommend for anyone with taste and that would like to experience a wonderful time.

Room Tip: You can recommend this place to any friends of yours and know they will be treated with excellent se...

We stayed at Highlands for our Wedding Anniversary recently, and would return again in an instant... Our room was magnificent, a very spacious room on a corner, with a lovely private balcony and beautifully fitted en-suite bathroom, decorated in palest blue/green and cream and with some lovely antiques... A soothing, peaceful space, and one which we didn't want to leave for long... In fact we nested for the entire weekend and only came downstairs to eat! On the subject of eating, the breakfasts were lovely, and the dinner on both nights was SUBLIME! We were given a complimentary bottle of Cap Classique bubbly on our Anniversary night, and a lovely private alcove table, scattered with rose petals. This lovely Establishment surpassed all our expectations, and we so look forward to returning... If you love history and atmosphere and retreating into the grace of yesteryear, with service to match, go and stay at Highlands.. You will not regret it!

Room Tip: Corner room with balcony, upstairs...

We recently stayed for three nights at Highlands Country House, a beautiful Boutiquehotel in the Southern Suburbs of Cape Town. It was part of our honeymoon trip and especially Carole the owner and Monica the waitress made this stay very special. Our room was very tastefully decorated and the breakfast a real treat in this lovely English mansion. The place was ideally located for our excursions and unfortunately we couldn’t stay longer – but we will certainly come back during our next trip to Cape Town!
