“Short family break”
Reviewed 13 August 2013

Arrival
You arrive through a new housing estate and entering the park the drive to the touring pitch is a bit grim, however they are doing improvement works around here.
When you get to the touring area the reception/toilets/parking/pitches are all well maintained and pleasant.
I was booked in by (I guess) the owners kids. They were very friendly and efficient providing all the necessary information. Very professional, well done.

Pitches
There are a number of compacted hard core hard standing pitches for caravans, with space to the rear for tents. The area is quite compact, views pretty limited, but nice enough and quiet.
The pitches are a walk down a steep banking from the toilets, so whilst this wasn't a problem for us anyone with mobility issue may struggle.
The ground was well draining and not too hard for getting pegs in.

Facilities
The toilet block seems very new. It's a typical portacabin style, quite small but very, very clean. Showers are hot and shaver sockets, soap, hand towels, etc. a plenty.

The reception sells juice, perhaps more, so this is handy. There is a supermarket and a Co-Op within a very short drive.
A 10 minute drive will take you to Glasgow Fort, which is a large out of town retail park. This includes Halfords, which can be helpful for any camping essentials you need to stock up on.

Free Wifi is available, which was great for checking out things to do in the area if you have your laptop/ipad with you. On my visit this was about 1Mb, so you won't be watching videos on it. But a great 'free' added bonus.

We chose this campsite as it was close to the Time Capsule, which is great fun for kids and pretty good value for a family. Go Outdoors is also close by for camping essentials.

A 20 minute drive will also take you to Bothwell Castle if you fancy a bit of history on your break. This is part of Historic Scotland and you will find details on their website.

Overall
I enjoyed my stay at this park. Although it is a bit more urban than I would usually go for, it is a great location for touring the area, including visiting Glasgow.

Quiet, Clean, Quality Pitch, Friendly Staff, Good base. I would happily recommend this site for a short break.

Stayed for 3 night in our touring caravan. The manager was friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The setting was quiet and peaceful and well thought out. Each pitch had a good amount of space so you don't feel on top of your neighbours. Great facilities, I have never seen toilets or showers as clean as this before in a site. Shops are not too far away and shop keeper is very friendly. Lovely place for a few days rest and relaxation. Would highly recommend.

Its quite a proper place very nice, orderly, was once a mobile home park, and still has a lot of caravans, it's now an over 55 community with a few spots still left for travelers, with pitches and hard stand areas. clean park, clean facilities free wi-fi and everything else has a fee, this can be a bit of a pain, 20 p for hair dryer, 20 pence to use dish washing area, only one washer and dryer for campers. Very friendly staff and they seem to enjoy helping us tourist types. good location a local Taxi to most of Glasgow was under 15 pounds, and it is on a bus line.

Room Tip: bring some 20p pieces.

Dear Guest,

Whilst we thank you for your review and praise of our park and staff we would like to comment as follows:-

At the time of your visit (June 2013) we did not have hair dryers in the toilet/shower blocks and we do not charge for using dishwashing facilities. We also have 2 large washing machines and 2 large dryers in our laundry room.

We feel that you may have confused Craigendmuir Caravan and Camping Site with another park you have visited during your stay in Scotland.

The residential side of the Park 'Red Deer Village' is exclusively for the over 50 community, but we have 30 pitches available for motorhomes/tourers and tents also.

We hope that the positive sides you saw of the park will overcome the negative and that we may see you again at Craigendmuir Caravan and Camping Site.
