“Lovely place to stay”
Reviewed 13 November 2013

Off the beaten track but a beautiful place to stay. We had a great family room which was very cosy and comfortable. Breakfast great too with lots of choice - all good! Also close to lovely pubs in Ipstones for evening meals.Taxi service available too. Alton Towers very close so very convenient.

We stayed here for three days during a weekend trip to Alton Towers.

The price was extremely reasonable, the staff very friendly and the rooms comfortable. The full English in the morning was delicious and you could help yourself to cereals, yoghurts etc whilst enjoying the beautiful, unspoiled scenery.

We did regret that we weren't able to spend more time exploring the countryside, but had arranged to spend the weekend at the theme park.

We have stayed at the resort hotel in the past and Hermitage is far better and much cheaper.

The location probably isn't ideal for those without a car as the farm is a few miles outside of the village and there didn't seem to be any local buses. However, it is probably well placed for drivers - 10 minutes from the theme park.

The people upstairs were also quite noisy, but this didn't really bother us.

We will definitely return the next time we're in the area.

Okay the rooms are small and the neds are hard. Sthe staff are friendly. The accomodation is clean and the breakfast is exactly whats needed before a long day at Alton Towers (or travelling home). I would stay here again if I needed to stay in the area for any reason.

We all went away for a night on our way to Alton Towers and my sister in law booked us in this B&B, I don't generally use B&B's as I personally don't like feeling like I am in someone elses house, however at this place my brother and sister in law had a nice 'all in room' but we got a bungalow. It was great, a double room with a small bed in, a twin room with a night light for my kids, a lovely bathroom with a bath and a shower and a lounge with TV. The place was spotless, comfortable and the people friendly, the breakfast served in the main house was lovely and a very good price. This is somewhere we will definitely go back to if only for the views which are breath taking.

Room Tip: ask for the bungalow it really is lovely, although saying that the rooms I saw looked good.

We recently stayed a night at this farm, which is in a beautiful setting with stunning views overlooking the valley. When selecting a farm for our stay we had expected a romantic and personalised rural experience surrounded by farm animals but the purpose-built barn accommodation wing with 12 rooms gave the place more the feel of a suburban motel. Our welcome was anything but warm. An older lady took an eternity to answer our ring at the door and then gave us the keys to our room in a grumpy manner just pointing us to it across the yard.

Our standard upstairs room was a reasonable size, nicely painted but the decor was old and shabby. The windows were small and set very high so the rooms could not capitalise on the view. The furniture was mismatched and cheap. It looked like it had been sourced from a secondhand shop and the tired corner wardrobe with the aging fluffy toy animals on it was particularly off-putting. The towels were clean, but old, small and thin. You expect better quality when paying the price asked. The bed is badly in need of replacing. The mattress gave little support and we spent half the night trying to avoid rolling into the middle. Hot water and shower pressure were good but carpet in a bathroom never gives a feeling of cleanliness. A tiled floor would be much better.

There was a small shared refrigerator for guests near the entrance to our stairway, and lots of helpful tourist brochures that inspired us to visit the plague town Eyam the following day. Wifi reception was excellent. The owner was friendly when we eventually met him.

The breakfast was served in a pretty dining room decorated in "Ye Olde England" style with lots of gleaming brass. The servings were generous, the cooking good and the waiting staff cheerful. The sun streamed in through the windows. The atmosphere in the breakfast room showed what could be achieved if the bedrooms were to be freshened up and refurnished.

We got this "room" as a late deal and the room turned out to be a whole cottage! It was a fantastic old barn converted beautifully in a really rustic traditional way. There was a master bedroom with a single bed and a top floor room with two singles. There was a fully equipped kitchen and a bathroom. The views were stunning to say the least. It was so cosy and truly memorable.
The staff were all friendly and couldn't do enough for you. There was a useful welcome pack with tea, coffee, biscuits and hot chocolate. The children appreciated the television room/lounge in the cottage too!
Breakfast was in a charmingly quaint room in the farmhouse where a tasty traditional English was served.
We sadly only stayed the night as a precursor to Alton Towers which was 5 mins down the road. Can't recommend this place enough!
