The accommodation itself is pretty good, with clean bedding with adequate beds (not comfortable). But the town of Mannar is a real dump and this accommodation is located in a less than salubrious area, not that there is an upmarket part of Mannar.
There were lots of mosquitoes in the hotel and the food was pretty ordinary.
Not sure if there is anything better on offer in Mannar.
Mannar itself is not your average tourist attraction but the remote areas of the Mannar Island and the Causeway are interesting, as long as you are away from the inhabited areas and all the rubbish that goes with that.

After reading many reviews I decided to lodge at Mannar Guest House on my much awaited visit to Manaar. After calling and checking availability and confirming over email and a call two days before my visit I arrived at the guest house only to find the rooms already given. The owner then guided us to another place which only had two A/C rooms which were smelling muggy and dirty and we had to go looking for a different place. It was certainly a very disappointing and tensed situation for a much planned journey and a long drive. Beware if you are booking this place as he handles reservations very carelessly

The place is ok. Clean rooms and basic bathroom. The building is new and nice..... But beware of the surroundings.... In the morning when you come out of the room, there is a big pool of stagnant water waiting for you. Almost all the surrounding houses are shanties...

This is very basic guest house, just behind the main town area in Uppukulam. The hotel lies in bit of a remote location, like a village area with swampy surrounding and dirty inviting lots of mosquitos. The room is small with AC, fan, TV and a small but okay beds with mosquito net, which is good to protect from mosquito bites. However the TV is only with local channels (and some south Indian). The bathroom is also very small and with no amenities, except a soap and a bad quality of towel. The staff cum owner is very helpful and always tries his best to serve you. The breakfast is normally included in room and it is mostly local foods. The hotel tariff for a day is approx. LKR 2,000/night. If you want to have lunch or dinner, the guest house can prepare it and I come to know that it is good (I didn’t had it). Except the location and room size, generally I liked it compare to cost. Please also note that there is not many choice of hotels in Mannar, so comparing others, it is still okay. I also stayed in tow others which are Holiday Guest house and Aahash Hotel and both are around LKR 2,500 and just okay.

Stayed two nights while visiting local friends, so I can only comment on the rooms. The rooms are small-ish, but cheerfully painted (but not overly so) which gives them a more light and spacious feel than you would expect. The beds are small, as noted in several reviews; my main complaint are that the mattresses are the basic Arpico ones, which are thin and so you can really feel the boards underneath. This is fine for Sri Lankans, most of whom can sleep on a concrete floor comfortably, but not for us soft foreigners... My hope is that as business improves and the owners save a bit, that they'll buy better mattresses. (I would suggest to them the Pyestra Super Cool, which are the most comfortable I've seen in Sri Lanka.)

Another big advantage is that the guest house is extremely convenient to the bus stand; just a quick 5-10 minute stroll. It's also equally close to the old town, where the shops are.

Yes, the property opposite is an unused, often flooded piece of land, and the misquotes can be bad. But then Mannar always has a lot of them. Bring your repellent. Keep your room fan on, and the door and windows closed; we did and had few mosquitoes at night and didn't need to use the nets.

After looking at a few places in mannar we followed the quality signage to this guesthouse. We stayed for a few nights 2500 rs per night with AC and 250rs for a great fish curry. The place was clean, the owner friendly and I slept well.

The rooms (and beds) are quite small, but clean and functional. The price is only just OK for what you get (Rs 2000 for a double room with fan and no hot water - A/C in the same room is an extra Rs 1000/night!) The ceiling fan is very effective, but the power was out for about 2 hours in the early morning and the room got very hot (the power probably goes out a lot, so I would think they should have a generator). We had no problems with mosquitoes, but we kept the window closed (which of course made it hotter).

It is well signposted and easy to find, and the (male) owner is friendly and speaks good English.

We ordered rice and curry for dinner (Rs 300 each) and it was fine, but nothing special. Reading the other reviews, perhaps we should have asked for crab.

One negative point, though: When we arrived, we asked if they served beer with dinner and the owner said they did. After a long hot day on the motorcycle, we were looking forward to a cold beer or two! However, when the time came, all he had was 3 cans of not-very-cold Lion Strong. When we reminded him that we had specifically asked about beer earlier, he said he thought 3 beers would be enough (for two people for an evening). [By the way, Mannar is the only town of that size we've found in Sri Lanka that doesn't have a "wine store" (beer/liquor store), so you can't go out and buy your own. The only place to buy alcohol is the "Social Club" after 6 pm, which had some kind of sign-in/membership(?) requirement, and a long queue.]

Room Tip: The room at the front is quite loud in the morning.
