“Hidden gem with amazing location for quiet retreat for day tripping into Abel Tasman.”

Had a fantastic stay in late October at Matahua cottages. Super clean and cute and well appointed with just 5 min drive to Mapua wharf restaurants. Enjoyed the deck and view over the bay ideal for sipping wine after active trekking day in Abel Tasman. Just off main road and easy to get to from Nelson or anywhere really. Also loved staying somewhere that feels removed but not at all inconvenient to get to.

“Paradise”
Reviewed 20 February 2014 for a stay in February 2014

We returned 1 week ago from a fantastic holiday. Part of it was almost a week stay at Karaka Cottage. The beautiful location with stunning views and still (super)markets and the nice Mapua warf close by was perfect. The cottage has everything you would need with even a better shower than you would get in most places. We loved running on the beach of Rabbit Island, the hikes in the Able Tasman reserve, the lunches at Marlborough wineries and the quiet evenings with the BBQ lit.

I wish we could go back tomorrow.

“The best place to stay in New-Zealand!”

Miro Cottage is the best place we stayed during our trip in New Zealand!
We arrived at the cottage in the late afternoon after having driven the whole day, coming from Lake Wanaka. We were very exhausted and were hoping the cottages we had booked would allow us to have some good rest! We were not disappointed at all!! This place is paradise and Elspeth is the best host ever! Just before we arrived, she had cut cherry blossom tree flowers to put in the room, and brought us some fresh eggs from the farm. The cottage has a chimney in the living room and has a very warm atmosphere. The decoration is like the one you see in the decoration magazines! The kitchen has all the necessary equipment to cook a nice dinner, and, what we loved is the BBQ!
The view from the cottage is just amazing, incredibly beautiful!
The cottage is very well located, near Mapua, in the middle of vineyards. Very convenient location if you want to go to Abel Tasman park.
If you go there, we recommend you to go to Mapua Wharf and rent bike there. This place is very beautiful

New Zealanders have a great method of unwinding, pop a little hut on a foreshore or headland somewhere quiet and unassuming and the peace and quiet is built in. Miro is exquisite. If you are looking to unwind away from the crazy pace of home - this is your spot. If you can't find what you need in this little corner of paradise you should have stayed at home. We stayed for several days this Spring and could not fault the place. Perhaps the most rewarding experience was stepping outside the warm cottage on a cold, dark evening to witness the clearest view of the majestic sweep of the milky way and carpet of stars we've ever seen.

“Very private, very restful, very thoughtfully provided conveniences”
Reviewed 6 April 2013 for a stay in April 2013

Stayed for 4 nights over Easter.
Booking with Elspeth was quick and easy (booked via website and email).
Stayed at the Miro cottage. Access requires care when turning off the 100kph highway.
Décor was retro classic kiwi bach style, with some modern touches, but extremely comfortable.
All the facilities available - good, hot shower, flat-screen tv, stove, oven, gas bbq, woodfire (wasn't cold enough to use though). Kitchen implements were great - we ate in a couple of nights and there were enough utensils to make a variety of dishes eg chocolate mousse, roast chicken - even saw a sushi mat!
Loved the places were you could just sit and relax - on the deck, in the garden, in the hammock, in the lounge, at the table looking over the estuary through the windows, at the picnic table by the BBQ - very thoughtful - and very private, generally couldn't see or hear another soul. Beautiful surroundings and the estuary was mesmerizing, day or night, tide in or out. The birds are very entertaining.
Had a wonderful time, would love to have stayed longer. Hopefully will be back. Definitely recommended.

Only downside was the proximity of the highway - even though the location was private, we could always hear the hum from the highway. And the other cottage had some children over to visit one night, who were a bit noisy in the garden. Both very minor issues.
