My wife and I decided to spend two nights at this hotel and we couldn't have made a better choice. The hotel staff were extremely pleasant and helpful and the hotel setting was breath-taking. It lived up to its expectations!! The room was very spacious and well equipped and the bed albeit very large was very comfortable. The swimming pool and spa facilities were fantastic and we took advantage of using the pool, saunarium and steam room. Breakfast was very tasty and there was a large selection of food which included local produce. We had a meal in the bar on both nights and was very impressed with the selection and quality of the food - we had a fantastic Thai chicken curry on the first night and it was superb and very reasonably priced. The bar staff were very accommodating as were the staff serving breakfast - it was very obvious that they enjoyed working there - I think anyone would!!! We would definitely recommend this hotel and we will be re-visiting and hopefully staying longer next time. Definitely worthy of the four star rating. Truly exceptional!

Stayed for one night as a treat away. Very impressed with the setting, lovely sitting out on the terrace overlooking the golf course.

Room was comfortable and clean with amazing shower.

Good breakfast, asked for poached eggs as extra to the buffet which were served quickly and hot.

We stayed here for one night whilst we attended a friend's wedding and it was really special. The reception area is really pleasant as are the staff, we were quickly checked in and able to drop our luggage off in our lovely 1st floor room. We overlooked the car park but I suspect the rooms overlooking the golf course are really great. We had a Juliet balcony which was nice, all very comfortable. A minor issue would be no mini bar or fridge and shower over the bath which can be difficult to regulate. We visited the bar area which is really comfortable and nicely decorated but as the weather was so good we were able to sit out on the well furnished terrace area with the stunning views. The barman was really pleasant and told us a bit about the hotel history and seemed genuinely proud to work there. We only used the restaurant for breakfast but if looks are anything to go by then I would imagine the food is great. Breakfast was tasty, efficiently served using local produce which is a nice touch. We didn't have time to sample the spa facilities but had a look around and it all looked very good. I would recommend this hotel and will definitely try and stay for longer again soon.

Room Tip: Ask for a golf course view

Thank you for the review and for the recommendation. I hope you will return to try the restaurant and the spa facilities. You definitely had the right idea having a drink out on the terrace – it is gorgeous! Hope to see you again soon…maybe for a Spa Break?

We stayed 2 nights mid July, paying £102 per night via Hotels.com. 2 rooms too. Bizarrely one night was B and B, one not. We think it was overpriced seeing prices others paid, but to be fair that might be hotels.com not the hotel. Stranger was that our booking wasn't in the hotel system, despite being made the same day, since the system isn't as slick as you might expect, apparently a fax for our reservation hadn't arrived !

The rooms were big, but we did have to change them as we were initially checked in (by a receptionist who told us squarely that our booking issue was just "a bad day getting worse" for her - honestly, how is that ever appropriate to a guest?!) to ground floor, zero view, quite tired rooms. The new rooms were a bit better though one retained a strange smell for the duration of our stay. No aircon meant the July weather kept it quite humid for that reason.

The location was good and the hotel well run. The one breakfast we had was good too. Dinner on the terrace overlooking the course was also really nice.

But we always had the sense that a family with 3 small kids really wasn't what this hotel was geared to (and to be fair we didn't expect it to be during our on spec stay). It was a decent, if unremarkable, stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a recently refurbed room if you can

Thank you for taking time out to post your comments. We would always recommend coming direct to us for your booking rather than going through an agency – it gives us a better chance to curtail your stay to your individual needs. I am glad to hear that you enjoyed breakfast and dinner and will pass on your comments to our team.

We booked this through Travelzoo, £69 per room per night, B&B - cracking deal for such a lovely place.
Good points - very quiet, excellent service (specially Chris and Elita, both in the restaurant), beautiful setting, good food (bar menu was good, didn't try the restaurant), good size 18m pool, well equipped gym with helpful staff (Clay), biscuits in the room (unusual these days!), superior room had 2 king size beds and a window that opened all the way so plenty of fresh air! Wonderful.
Neutral points - wedding on the Thurs night slowed food down a bit but nothing horrendous. If you have little ones with you, there is no playground and there is nowhere to let them loose as it's a golf course, but there are a number of board games for guests' use tucked away to the side of the bar. Pool times for children are restricted to 2 x 2hrs a day, I think.
Minus points - shame there isn't a local pub within walking distance. The Anchor in Nayland village is OK, overlooking the river but food a bit ££.
We would definitely stay here again if this offer was repeated.

Room Tip: Room 210 - very quiet, occasional golfers walking past, overlooks grassy area, not the car park, 2 k...

Thank you for your review! It sounds as though you were certainly able to make use of most of our facilities during your stay – which is excellent. If you liked the bar food, next time you must try the food in the restaurant; it is delicious! Our Lounge Bar is open 24 hours so next time you feel stuck without a pub, simply grab your drink of choice and head out on to the beautiful terrace. You’ll get all the benefits of a local beer garden without having to drive. Visit us again soon!

This was booked by my boyfriend for a birthday surprise for me earlier in the year. The hotel was having some building work done to the front of the building but nothing that caused interference to guests. I had heard good reviews of the spa but as we arrived a little later we didn't get to use them but they lookoed very very nice!
The room was in a nice location and was decorated tastefully. It had a lovely view over the golf course whne we opened the curtains in the morning. The bed was incredibly comfortable and absolutely huge!! Both had a lovely night's sleep.
The hotel restaurant served incredible food that really showed the chef's thought outside the box. Not only was the flavours delicious, but the colours made the meals so enticing! We both compared the food to some of the michelin star restaurants that we have been to. My boyfriend used to be a chef so I certainly value his opinion and he couldn't fault the food.
The restaurant was nicely laid out and we had a really enjoyable evening here. It was also where breakfast was served and the waiters were happy and friendly. I liked the fact that they served different juices from Copella fruit farm in Boxford which is local. They tasted very nice. It was nice to see the view from the restaurant in the morning and the breakfast on offer catered for all tastes. There was fresh fruit, toast, croissants, a delicious cooked breakfast and many cereals too.
I would have been more than happy to stay here for longer- especially to use the spa facilities. Another reason to come back!! We then went on to Norwich which wasn't too far away but it is in a very nice location in the countryside.

Brilliant comments – thank you for taking the time to post a review. You will definitely have to come back to experience the Spa. Maybe a cheeky Spa Break with the girls? We have some great options on offer. I will pass on your comments about the food to our kitchen; it is wonderful to hear that you enjoyed the dishes. Hopefully we will welcome you back before the year is out!
