Our small room with the most beautiful view in this lovely old building was perfectly planned. The shower, fitted at the end of the bath was excellent and there was always plenty of hot water. Lovely big towels to be cosy and warm. The food was good and they were very happy to cater for a dietary need. A great atmosphere in the bar where plenty of locals come to drink and chat. All the staff were friendly and kind. We highly recommend this small hotel, we hope to return.

Room Tip: All rooms sounded to be good, but the two with the view of the valley would be our choice. All are q...

There is so much that is good about this place - 4 real ales always available (with a high number of smaller local breweries represented), the under-stated but comfortable bar, plenty of space outside if the weather is good, an amazing view down the dale from every window, a relaxed attitude to walkers, a good menu of traditional English food . . . . the only complaint I have is that it can take a long time to be served food when its busy in the summer and to having to stand in a queue for 5 - 10 minutes is a bit irritating (why can't they put two staff on serving food?!) but having said that, if you go between October & March he food is served straight from the kitchen.

Stayed for a few nights break with friends and the friendliness of the staff was outstanding, as were the views. Beer was great, the breakfast was as well although the evening meal was a tad disappointing but the overall experience was very good. Our room was always spotlessly clean, well equipped and with views to do for although it was pretty small and the bathroom a bit dated. However you are confined by the physical size of the building so there's not much more you can do !

I cannot understand the comments about the staff as they were brilliant, chatty, helpful and welcoming, we couldnlt have asked for more pleasant hosts. The atmosphere in the bar was great although the restaurant was a bit flat on the one night we ate there but it didn't affect our enjoyment of the meal. Hope the 2013 Halfgallathon went well, a worthy fundraiser for local causes that was happening the day we left.

Room Tip: The rooms at the front had quite amazing dale views.

Other reviews say all there is about the view from the bar and restaurant - it is lovely. And the walks along Lathkil Dale are great as well. Combine the view, walks and a good selection of beers at the bar, and a good fire in winter, and there is a good reason to visit.
The food, however, is a little disappointing - not bad, but rather average. The dining room is also lacking in character and so you probably would not plan a visit for a special meal, were it not for the view, walks and beer...!

It's not all about looking out of the window. The wet and windy day we had dinner, the pub lacked atmosphere and any sort of warm welcome. The food was okay (small-ish portions) but the restaurant was a little sterile - intermittent background music meant that people were conscious of being overheard. The dividing curtain did the job of covering a messy area....until you needed the loo and had to walk through it all! The experience of hotel guests may be better, but if you are self-catering in the village, be warned that you only have one eating-out option.

I will definitely be staying at this hotel again. The room was clean & had plenty of tea, coffee, hot choc & biscuits. Also well stocked mini bar. The bar area is lovely to sit & look out at the views whilst enjoying a nice chilled glass of rose. 5 different real ales available. Food was delicious with a good selection and good value

Room Tip: Rooms 1 & 2 have the best view looking out across Lathkil Dale
