“Fantastic hospitality and perfect location for touring”
Reviewed 4 June 2011

We stayed at El Rancho as part of a month long trip to Spain. We wanted somewhere we could use as a base for a week to relax.. turns out we couldn't have made a better choice!
El Rancho is in Villanueva del Trabuco, which was an easy drive from our first stop in Seville and also super easy for our day trips to Antequerra, Ronda and Granada (to see the Alhambra) and then a final quick drive to our next destination of Nerja.
The accommodation is really lovely (fully equipped kitchens, great decor and comfort) and the setting is very picturesque.
The big stand out for this property however, would have to be the hospitality of the owners Jacque and Garret (and their gorgeous son Vidal!). They really made our stay wonderful, and were very helpful with local restaurant suggestions, things to do and see, organising horse riding, helping us plan the next part of our trip and generally being fantastic company! (Not to mention Jacque's amazing ablity to turn up at the jacuzzi with a gin and tonic for us - just when it seemed needed!! And Garret's generosity in sharing his special Ribero del Dueros and tequila!) ; )
Villanueva del Trabuco was a nice change of pace from the larger, more touristy southern Spanish attractions. A small-ish and more genuine town, but still plenty of supermarkets and restaurants / cafes etc.. We often took a 20-30 minute walk from El Rancho for a morning cafe con leche, but the drive is super quick (5 minutes).

Our stay at El Rancho recharged the batteries and we loved the right balance of relaxation and activity that was offered.

We would highly recommend El Rancho to anyone considering a stay here - it would make a great destination for families and couples alike.

We hope that we can return someday!!

The accomadation was excellent and very well furnished and equipped.
The horses were all very well cared for and a great area to ride in.

My wife, daughter and I had an absolutely wonderful week at El Rancho staying in the 'Pasa Fina' two-bedroom cottage, as well as first night stay in the B&B (we arrived a day early). For the first couple of days we did not venture outside of El Rancho, enjoying simply relaxing by the fabulous pool, wandering around the grounds enjoying the moutain views and looking at the horses.
Jacque and Garret (El Rancho owners) have created a truely beautiful holiday location which draws on the traditional look and feel of Andalucia - lots of white walls, moorish arches, dark wood beams and cool interiors - my family and I loved it.
If you have a car, then El Rancho is nicely located for trips to Granada, Ronda and the coast - Burriana beach in Nerja is a nice compromise between the commercial areas of the Costa del Sol and deserted coves.
Horse riding and tuition is available if required (our daughter had some lessons in El Rancho then a ride out into the hills) but not necessarily integral to a stay, its just there if you want it.
Jacque, Garret and their family were absolutely terrific over the course of our stay, offering loads of advice on visits etc, as well a being incredibly welcoming.
In summary, it was a fabulous holiday to Andalucia and El Rancho, made all the better by the very friendly and knowledgable hosts.

My wife and I spent 5 days with Jacque (Jackie) and Garrett on their really beautiful ranch last Easter. As my wife was 6 months pregnant at the time, we were looking for a short getaway over the Easter break to unwind at somewhere relaxed, peaceful and authentic - and my god we weren't disappointed.
The mood was set on our arrival - the Sat Nav in our rental car was sending us off in strange directions so I called Garrett from the local town Villaneuva del Trabuco. Garrett was good enough to hop in his car and escort us to the ranch - turned out that we were close and the ranch was very easy to find. Once we arrived at the ranch, Garrett showed us to our gorgeous 1 bed apt/chalet/cottage and summarily invited us for a drink in their own house across the pool. Their welcoming and friendly nature was constant throughout our stay and made our holiday all the better.
The accommodation itself is great, all buildings are designed in the rustic style of rural Andalucia, beautifully finished inside and out. Ours had a really comfortable king size bed, beautifully tiled walls and floors, a kitchenette, spotlessly clean bathroom, and top class outdoor seating area with gas barbeque.
Just outside your own area is the absolutely gorgeous rectangular pool with lounges and poolside hot tub. All this is surrounded by rolling hills draped in olive groves and for our stay anyway, clear blue skies. Idyllic location.
if you are interested in horse riding, there is a paddock and stables and I'm sure great spots for riding - we were just interested in chilling out, a feat that was easily achieved and encapsulated in a seminal moment as we bubbled away in the open jacuzzi with beer in hand after a long day's travelling around Andalucia and watched the sun set - amazing!
We'll definitely be back soon with our baby in tow, it is a great location for kids, couples etc and if you're happy to spend plenty of time on the ranch and not looking for too much from the local town, it's ideal. Great value as well, we paid only 60 per night in April off peak. What a bargain.
Thanks Garrett, Jackie and Videl for a wonderful time - we'll be back!

This is the second time that we have stayed at El Rancho and we had an amazing time again.
El Rancho itself looks even better than it did last year. The hot tub is in full effect and they have even more horses to choose from if riding is your thing.
I can't stress enough how welcome we were made to feel. Jacque and Garret are fantastic hosts and were very helpful.
This time we stayed in there small apartment and it was lovely.
I can't recommend this place enough.

The setting is lovely, the accommodation, pool, bbq areas and riding facilities are of an extremely high standard and nothing is too much trouble for the owners, Jacque & Garret who made us feel very welcome. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't kind to us at Easter, but having sampled just one hot and sunny day, we can see what it would and should have been like. Our 15 year old daughter enjoyed the trail riding through the hills - so anyone looking for a relaxing and tranquil setting, with superb facilities and good riding, should without a doubt, stay here.

The coastal resorts are around 40 mins drive away, Cordoba and Granada are also easily reachable by car - so for a cultural day out, away from the olive groves, this makes a nice touring base too.

We stayed at El Rancho for a weekend stay while looking for properties in Andalucia; we couldn't have chosen a more relevant and inspiring place to stay. Jacque and Garret have made the accommodation stylish, comfortable and inviting - we stayed on a B&B basis but they offer 2 separate self catering apartments which have their own BBQ and outside areas to relax, as well as instant access to the inviting pool and jacuzzi area. As hosts their sense of fun and vitality is very infectious and are a great source of knowledge for holidaying in the area...considering the great value of money the accommodation and facilties are well thought out and such a high standard, stylish and sympathetic to the Spanish style. I would definitely recommend to anyone wanting a retreat but ease of access to the gorgeous countryside; I'd like to come again to sample the self catering for myself!
