“Super cottage and facilities, well located for road trips out”
Reviewed 6 July 2015 for a stay in June 2015

Great, superb location, superb facilities, peaceful, stunning 360 degree vistas

I think we were the first to stay in the new cottage in 2014 and it was finished to a really high standard. We stayed again there just a couple of weeks ago.

Great kitchen facilities, lounge area and spacious bedrooms with attached bathrooms, all brand new. Furnished simply and elegantly with an equestrian anadaluscian theme with bathrooms clean and modern in polished granite.

Super private roof terrace with beds and chairs, truly stunning 360 degree panoramas, great for sunsets, you can see for miles. Generous, private outdoor seating area with barbecue for al fresco dining and breakfast.

Great access to a huge pool with a separate hot tub, more sunbeds and shady pergola comfortable seating areas. Pool is shared only with the other cottage and the studio apartment.

Hosts Garret and Jacqui couldn't be more hospitable and welcoming, ensuring everything you might need was available with local advice on the village and surroundings. Jacqui's parents who live adjacent to the main 'ranch house' in the compound were ever so helpful with local areas of interest to visit for day trips, they've done a bit of exploring!

Easily accessible for longish day trips are Malaga Town (and the other coastal resorts), Cordoba, Ronda, Granada and Sevilla. There are many circular car tours through fantastic scenery, villages and towns; huge churches towering over villages on hilltops…don't miss the spooky and unearthly El Torcal, sculpted limestone pavement, like walking through a science fiction set (good shoes or boots recommended).

The ranch is settled below a huge forested mountain. You can walk or drive (it gets a bit steep and turns from tarmac to graded dirt halfway up which is ok in 2 wheel if you're confident) all the way to the top and into the forest to the right where there are picknicking areas and sort of an adventure playground. They were eerily semi-abandoned but that may be because the summer season had not quite started...interesting anyhow and fantastic views back across the valley if you make your way through the undergrowth - But don't tackle this without good shoes or boots, lots of jagged rocks, not for children!

Theres also a great walk or drive to the left halfway up the hill through the edge of the forest and down to locally important fountain with many spouts. There is also another new picknicking area here which was finishing construction, with great views back down the lower part of the valley. Loads more walks into the forest and onto the mountains, best to do your research first rather than leave it till you're there as I did and then got busy with various trips and didn't have time...

All in all you couldn't want more for a low key, peaceful location in super accomodation for 4 (one double, one twin) with great facilities and easy access for great day trips either locally or further afield.

“Perfect! Unique holiday experience in stunning setting with exceptional hosts”
Reviewed 21 January 2015 for a stay in October 2014

We had the pleasure of staying in El Alter Real in October 2014. We had holidayed at El Rancho in the 3 preceding years, staying in the lovely studio. This year we were taking our daughter on her first holiday and were delighted with the extra space in the new 2 bed cottage. This new property has been expertly added to the existing properties, it looks like it has always been there. All the cottages are maintained to such a high standard it is impossible to tell which is the newest.

We absolutely loved the roof terrace, the view of the surrounding mountains is stunning. We have many photos of fabulous sunrises and sunsets from this vantage point.

The new cottage is spacious and comfortable with a perfectly equipped kitchen, the fridge freezer is huge. The outside gas barbeque is excellent and positioned perfectly beside the large dining table, a lovely spot to enjoy relaxed Al fresco dining. The place is immaculate and the bed linen and towels are of a very high standard. We were amazed to find the cot provided was a solid wooden one and not just a travel cot. A high chair was provided too.

What makes this place truly unique though is the exceptional welcome you will get from owners Jacque and Garret. We would not normally return to a place year after year, but once we had experienced an El Rancho holiday it's hard for us to imagine anything better. Riding in the Andalucian mountains on their fabulous horses is an experience I want to keep repeating! We've just booked for this year!

I cannot recommend El Rancho highly enough for a friendly, relaxed holiday surrounded by stunning scenery.

“Warm welcome, great weather and beautiful location”
Reviewed 19 January 2015 for a stay in August 2014

I stayed here with my husband and 9 year old son, so the two bedrooms were perfect for us. We had stayed at this location the year before, but in the other cottage, so it was our first time in the new one. With the bedrooms at opposite ends of the living area, it would be perfect for two couples to share, and each bedroom has its own ensuite bathroom. The living area/kitchen was very well equipped, with a DVD/tv, a Bluetooth speaker for iPods etc and everything you might need in the kitchen. We used the gas bbq outside more than the kitchen though! There is an outside eating area and a private roof terrace with very comfortable sun loungers and chairs.
The communal pool area was fantastic with more loungers (enough for everyone staying), and a fabulous big dining table and chairs if you needed a little shade. There was plentyof room whether you were feeling sociable or wanted some quiet time. With only two other rental properties and the family/owners, it quite often was empty as people went off on days out or about their business.
The welcome, as always, was so warm and friendly. With a son nearly the same age as ours, there was a ready made playmate there. Garrett and Jaques are great, welcoming us with a glass of wine and huge smiles.
The best review I can give is that we have booked to go back for a third time in August 2015!
