“A romantic hideaway with exceptional food and service”
Reviewed 30 December 2013

We have just come back from a very relaxing and delightful overnight stay and are thankful to have such a gem so close to Ottawa. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and found it to be a romantic hideaway. There are only four guest bedrooms, so it is a very personal, relaxed environment. We arrived in the early afternoon to the crackling flames of the front room fireplace and spent some time there until retreating to freshen up for the evening. The common bathroom has been recently updated and delightfully decorated. It has a deep old-style bathtub that accommodates two people snugly, plus a large rock-walled (and rock floored) shower with streams of water coming at you from all directions, if you so choose. The decor is tasteful throughout the auberge.

The evening meal was a delicious, multi-course treat served in a spacious dining room with a fireplace. Great care was taken to accommodate all of our food restrictions. Count on about two hours to enjoy the meal and remember to bring your own alcoholic beverages.

In the morning we were treated to a breakfast with omelettes, fresh-squeezed orange juice and home-made marmalades and jams. They make their own breads, but we don’t eat wheat so we passed on them. Then we went for an easy snowshoe hike along a groomed snowshoe trail through the snow-clad forest.

It is clear that both Christian and Lise like being with people, have an eye for beauty, and pay attention to every detail. We felt very warmly received and had a great time.

Our experience for dinner was everything can anyone can imagine and desire. Simply put it was outstanding. It is well worth the drive and if you are in the area it's a great way to support hard working, passionate and creative people. Christin uses local farms where possible and takes a lot of pride and ownership in his establishment. He offers superb service, selection and food for a very reasonable price. He is super accommodating with food allergies and sensitivities, such as gluten and lactose. His culinary skills are evident and has a passion or food and service. It was a pleasure to dine at his establishment and we look forward to returning again in the near future.

We have had dinner here twice in a month, following an excellent massage. Both times the food was superb, the owners attentive and welcoming, but not obtrusive. "Bring your own bottle" is an advantage for me, reducing the cost and increasing the range of possible wines. With the menu arranged in advance with the chef, you can find exactly the right pairing at the SAQ. There is a choice of dining rooms, depending on the weather, either outside on a bug-free deck, with the sun setting through the trees of the verdant and tranquil valley, or inside in the beautifully-finished log-style dining room, in front of a blazing fire in winter. Although it's only an hour from Parliament Hill, this auberge has the feeling of a cozy refuge in the wilderness. It's a brave experiment that deserves to succeed.

Room Tip: Only one of the rooms has an en suite bathroom, but the shared bathroom is spacious and equipped to...

My wife and I stayed there for 2 nights and it was amazing. The owners have taken into account every little detail and you can see it really is a passion of theirs. The breakfast is amazing, ( one of the owners being a 5 star chef) and you can opt for a dinner if you ask in advance, which i'm sure would be worth it considering the chef's status. You will not be disappointed.
