“An interesting menu in very pleasant surroundings”
Reviewed 26 September 2013

We booked to have a meal here based on a recommendation from friends. We were not disappointed. The menu was interesting and varied. I could have chosen multiple choices from each course . In the end I chose figs with mozarella and Parma ham for the starter which was delicious. For the main course I had fish which was equally good. Desserts were all home made and wonderful. We will visit again. We were well looked after and it was an enjoyable evening.

This was my second visit, the last being around 3 years ago. I returned because of the beautiful accommodation, friendly service and total escape. I was not disappointed. It was everything I remembered and more. I took my in laws and husband this time and they loved it too. Andy and Egija are wonderful hosts, we enjoyed a personel service that you would never get at a hotel. We ate two out of our three nights at the restaurant onsite. Andy is an amazing chef and Egija makes amazing desserts. You would be missing out if you didn't eat, stay or visit here.

It is really difficult to think of anything positive to say about "La Vielle Maison" that hasn't already been said in previous reviews.
Andy and Egija are delightful hosts who spare no efforts in making you feel welcome from the moment you arrive at their delightful family run hotel set in truly beautiful countryside.
When we arrived for our long weekend break in the Dordogne we were fully expecting to sample the gastronomic delights of the local area most evenings, but given one opportunity to sample Andy's culinary skills and Egi's bubbly form of hospitality was quite enough to convince us to save the petrol, stay put and go with the flow.
This wonderful little home away from home is just the perfect antidote to the stresses and strains of everyday existence. Enjoy!!!

Oh, just one thing - a telly and a phone in the room would make this place perfect - sorry Andy, couldn't resist it :-)
(Actually the lack of those things, with the oak beams, sloping floor and the antique french furnishings made such a refreshing change from the business hotels I am used to visiting)

See you next year!

Nige and Bev

Room Tip: We stayed in room 4, a real treat!

9 of us came to stay for one week, leading up to our daughters wedding. we were amazed at the quality of of it all. The hospitality was superb and even though we had only booked to eat on the first night, we found the food to be beautiful.

Egija was such a hardworking and couldn't do enough for everyone, they were all so accomodating. We would deffinetly recommend anyone to visit here and use it as a base for a lovely holiday!

we shall deffinely be returning, especially to sample the pork again!

We were looking for a quiet, hassle free holiday, and that's exactly what we got. The hotel is in a lovely setting with a pool and terrace. The food is superb, from the freshly prepared breakfasts with a selection of warm croissants, fresh bread, yoghurts, cerial etc. Dinner is fantastic, with a regularly changing menu. You get a good balance of quality with quantity - none of this tiny portions fare that should be in a gallery, this is good, fresh food, well presented, and locally produced. The hotel is run by Andy and Egya, who could not be more helpful. They even suggested places to dine out for us, and days out too!
To summerise, if you want a relaxing, typically "French" holiday - without any hassle or grief, then this is the place.

Room Tip: We had room 4 (on recommendation!) which is a lovely spacious room, big ceiling beams, huge fire-pla...

Andy and Egija our return trip was just as good as the first. Room was great - food even better. Your friendliness is above and beyond. Great little hotel. Will come and visit again when next in the area.

Fantastic quality of food in a small owner run hotel. A set menu with daily changes and a choice of courses. My wife daughter and I ate here on four different occasions and were astounded at the quality of food and the excellent service. If you are in the area this place is a must to visit.
