“Lovely place, lovely people, lovely Cornwall”
Reviewed 30 May 2017 for a stay in May 2017

A cosy and comfortable place to stay, perfectly located for so many treats - walking distance to St Just, lots of wonderful footpaths through the ancient fields, beaches, places to eat, art studios to visit, Geevor mine, the coastal path, wildlife, Newlyn, Penzance. On top of this, the studio has LITERALLY EVERYTHING you need for a stress free break. And then there's Chris and Rick - the sweetest hosts who obviously care greatly about their guests. Just spot on. I would recommend without hesitation.

Thank you for your thoughtful comments. As you say, there is so much to do here whatever your tastes and whatever the weather. We are glad the barn provdes a comfortable base to start your adventures, come back to after a good day out, and sleep soundly in the quiet of a West Penwith night. We hope to see you again. You would be more than welcome.

“An ideal base to explore west Cornwall.”
Reviewed 23 April 2017 for a stay in April 2017

A well equipped and tastefully furnished stand alone open plan self-catering living space on the outskirts of St Just. Owners Rick and Chris are extraordinarily helpful hosts - way beyond the call of duty. They are rooted in their beautiful rural/agricultural environment in all sorts of ways: through continuous work on their expansive property, cycling, walking, helping out on neighbouring farms, community projects, music and art. We got the benefit of their engagement with their place in the form of fresh homemade bread, cornish butter cheese and eggs. Also, in advice about walks, places to visit - and good conversation.

Thank you for your kind words. We always try hard to support our guests on both the domestic and holiday front. Before we moved here West Penwith was one of our favourite holiday destinations so we have knowledge of it as both residents and former visitors. Always happy to advise.

“Wonderful Cornish Holiday”

Crugkern Barn is a wonderful place to stay. It has everything you need and more. Set in Rick and Chris' beautiful garden in the peace and quiet of St. Just. The barn is beautifully set out and plenty of room for 2 people. Rick and Chris provide a lot of things that you wouldn't find at other self catering properties. Their hospitality is second to none and cannot do enough for you but they also give you privacy. There are lots of birds to sit and watch whilst enjoying a peaceful evening drink in the garden. Provided by Rick and Chris on arrival is some lovely Cornish Milk, Butter, Yarg Cheese and a homemade loaf that was very delicious. St Just is a lovely little place and only a 20 minute scenic walk away or a 2 minute drive. It is an ideal base to visit all Cornwall, we managed to visit many places in the 5 days we were there I suppose the beautiful weather helped. All in all the area is beautiful, Crugkern Barn is a wonderful base with loving touches and Rick and Chris are kind lovely people. We had a fab time, so much so we have booked again for August so we would recommend it to everyone, don't think about it just do it.

Chris and I are delighted that you had a good time here in West Penwith, and that the weather was kind for your visit. It is a lovely time of the year with the spring flowers in the lanes and on the cliffs, vibrant colours in the sunshine on the sea and birds in their full summer plumage. Glad you enjoyed the bread and cheese too, especially when it is accompanied by a glass of something in the evening sunshine. What could be better. Looking forward to seeing you again later in the year.

“A piece of Cornish Heaven”
Reviewed 14 October 2016 for a stay in October 2016

I can honestly say that we couldn't have had better hosts than Rick and Chris. They were so friendly and helpful, yet not at all intrusive. It was Andys birthday and Rick and Chris thoughtfully gave him a lovely card and a bottle of prosecco. How did they know that's our favourite tipple?! This was in addition to all sorts of 'welcome' goodies. The accommodation was spotless, warm, comfortable and furnished to the sort of high standard that we would like to aspire to at home. It was just all brilliant. The view from the barn is wonderful and we both felt so rested after our three night stay. There are walks and footpaths and wildlife galore all straight from the barn, and there is so much to do. We are keen bird watchers and were very pleased with all the birds we saw, including choughs, kestrels, a great auk, buzzards, and peregrine falcon, amongst many others.
If you're looking for somewhere really comfortable and beautifully furnished with everything you could possibly want, with lovely hosts, in a wonderful, quiet area, yet very close to St Just, then look no further. Crugkern Barn is the place for you.

Thank you for your kind words Charlotte. It was a pleasure to have you here at Crugkern, and we are delighted that it lived up to expectations. It was lovely to see you and Andy sitting on the bench 'up the wilderness' enjoying a glass or two of prosecco in the evening sun to celebrate his birthday. It's one of our favourite spots too. I was up there today doing a bit of 'estate work' and saw a large flock of redwing and fieldfare fly over and land in Tommy's field. The winter migrants are here. Autumn has well and truly arrived now.

“Cosy compact barn retreat in peaceful setting”
Reviewed 26 September 2016 for a stay in September 2016

We spent four nights at Crugkern Barn after a recommendation from a friend and it was a real treat. It's been thoughtfully kitted out with everything you could need for a relaxing stay (including a very useful daysack with OS map, sun cream, tupperware and blanket!) and beautifully decorated with handmade artwork. The setting is wonderfully peaceful with plenty to see and do nearby, and our hosts Rick and Chris could not have been more friendly or helpful. We had a fab holiday and hope to return!

Liked best: The modern but homely feel of the barn and the thoughtful extras (such as the day-sack)
Liked least: Kitchen is a little cramped (e.g. not much space on draining board etc) but wasn't really a big problem

The daysack has seen a lot of action this summer - seems to do the trick. Do come and see us again so we can induct you into some more of the mysteries of West Penwith.

“Memorable stay, wonderful accommodation in a beautiful location.”
Reviewed 22 September 2016 for a stay in August 2016

First of all, the hospitality from Rick and Chris sets this accommodation apart. Their welcome and concern for your well being is second to none. They gave us excellent advice on beaches, places to eat and to visit. The surrounding area is fascinating with a stark beauty at times that lets you discover its hidden gems. I have to say that the beaches are outstanding. Some of the very best we have visited. Even at my middle aged years I was tempted to use the body board again that Rick offered and loved it.
The accommodation has been lovingly put together, with wonderful personal touches. We particularly appreciated the beach bag with everything you needed folreadyr the day. We used it on two of our three days. The barn is cosy and comfortable. We enjoyed preparing meals, sitting outside and barbecuing in the barn's amazing private garden.
We look forward to another visit and are already planning for next year.
Thanks so much Rick and Chris. Hope to see you soon.

“A gem of a place, defintely one to return to - again and again”
Reviewed 10 August 2016 for a stay in July 2016

I can't praise Crugkern Barn or Rick and Chris enough. The barn has everything you need, no beach pebble left unturned! Right from booking, Rick was in contact to ensure our stay was as memorable as it could be. My husband and I are vegans, "provisions" were adapted to meet our dietary needs - the most scrummy home made bread, lovely local jam from "The Gull at the Gate" and Chris had been busy making us flapjacks for our arrival, a really kind gesture. I was celebrating my birthday while we holidayed and travelled to Carbis Bay to eat at The Bean Inn (even if you're not vegetarian or vegan, check it out). Rick had popped in to say "Happy Birthday" and handed me a card and cakes that Chris had made. I was so touched. Lovely people with such personal attention to detail, such natural hosts. We were lucky enough to get to Sennen beach for body boarding on two of the days and took a short walk to St Just for entertainment in the evenings. Thank you Rick and Chris for your hospitality, we will certainly be back.
