“A great night's stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 February 2014

Rooms 2 and 12 have the sea views. We had #2 - a huge room with a huge bed; lots of shelves and cubby holes around the walls - but watch out for the low angled beams! We left the curtains open so that the first thing we saw in the morning would be the sea, but of course at this time of year all you see first thing is your reflection in the glass because it's still dark outside! We had great meals there - dinner and breakfast; the service was really good, and cheerful with it. Our only criticism was that the car park was an odd shape and had insufficient room to fit staff and guests' cars in. However, there is a huge pay and display carpark on the other side of the road and of course one can park on the double yellow lines between September and May. Must be pretty horrendous in high season though.

Room Tip: Room 2 is 'premium' double with wonderful sea views.

You can't get much closer to a stormy sea than this, and still stay warm and comfortable. I had Room 2, with fantastic views over the beach and surf and Cape Cornwall in the distance (when I could see it!). Windows rattled a bit, but a soft well sprung bed soon put me to sleep. Nice pub downstairs, crackling fire, hospitable service, card-playing locals, good St Austell beers, great pub grub (locally sourced - changing daily specials), nourishing breakfast (kippers!) set me up well for windy cliff walks. The communal guest areas could do with a lick of paint, which is the only reason really why I'm not giving the full five stars. Highly recommended. I imagine its packed when the weather gets warmer. Penzance and all places east easily reached by car.

Room Tip: I had Room 2 but they say room 1 is even better!

Jut back from a lovely 3 night stay at this lovely inn. It's in a fantastic location, right on the sea front. Accommodation was excellent as was the service from all of the staff. We had two great meals in the bar which also has a good selection of real ales. For those who like to go for a early morning jog, lands end is a 3 mile round trip with beautiful views.

Room Tip: Room 1 is right at the front of the building and has great sea views

Always a must to visit the Old Success Inn when I go home. I love the atmosphere with all the locals and overseas visitors. They have a great Sunday lunch. The bar menu is good too. Its always a busy local. New Year's Eve your can't move! Its nice sitting in the window if you can get a window seat to look out at the wonderful bay and ocean. I have never stayed, as have a home up the road, but have always wanted to stay the night here!

After looking at the on-line sight for the Old success Inn and finding it fully booked. I rang on the off chance. Matt, the acting manager, Said to give him half an hour and he'd find out if we could have a room, that had not to date confirmed. True to his word, Matt came back to us saying the room was ours. I must say this was a really late booking. Arrived New years Eve and were treated promptly in a very welcoming manner, in spite of it being very busy. The room was not the biggest-we had stayed quite often in years gone by- but it was toasty warm. Very clean, beautiful linen, and a really comfortable bed. Ample tea and coffee. Lovey loo rolls too!!!!!!!!!
The atmosphere was great. There was a talented entertainer who played guitar and keyboard and sang a cross -range of favourites. The youngsters even had us up dancing with them! The staff worked so well together and the flow of service both bar and food never faltered.
The weather, as we are only to well aware of, was storm force winds, high tides etc. did not affect the warmth of this inn at all. The food choice was not vast but was beautifully cooked and very good value for money. Breakfast was great and stood us in good stead for the short but very stormy trip home In better weather there are great walks along coast. Super for surfing and swimming or just ambling along to nose in shops, Life Boat Station etc. So Well done ALL you lovely staff and locals, we hope to see you again soon!

Room Tip: Book EARLY enough to get delux rooms!!!!!!!!!!!!! However they are all good

We have had many meal in this establishment and both my parents and my wife's parents have stayed at the Old Success in the past. Sennen Cove is such a diamond in the Cornish treasure chest I am almost reluctant to share anything with readers about this beautiful location. We have enjoyed great restaurant and bar meals in this 'most typical' of Cornish pubs, but on this occasion, my report is only on the experience of a couple of very excellent beers after a walk from the Cove to Lands Ends and back, We watched the sun set and then enjoyed the atmosphere and the welcome from the staff of the pub. The quality of the beer was indeed good, two pints of St Austell's 'Proper Job' were of the utmost quality. My dear wife enjoyed two fine halves of Rattler, whilst our friend enjoyed something softer. Come winter or summer, the Old Success' has never failed to deliver.

Since our last stay 3 years ago, this picturesque village and its Inn has not changed at all. This pub has a real warmth about it set against the roar of the ocean. The bar is small and personal, the log fire in the corner welcoming, I knew I could relax and spend another perfect weekend here.

What I thought this pub does best is make you feel at home. The management and staff are polite, friendly, and engaging. We had a couple of problems during our stay that were sorted out promptly.

The accomodation like the pub is a little tired in parts but sometimes shiny pubs looses character and this place has bucket loads of that, a touch of the old english b&b mixed in with the traditional
pub still lives on. Rooms are warm, comfortable and clean, we stayed above the pub bar last time and this time in the ground floor annexe at the car park entrance.

Food. The menu I thought was a little unsure of itself. St Austell Breweries pride themselves on local produce. That did not disappoint. The choice of dishes for our stay combined traditional choices and exotic fusions, all with local ingredients. I would have to say the traditional steaks, roasts, and pub grub looked and tasted fantastic and are its main strength. A little more work on the fusion dishes, such as balancing delicate and strong flavours.

All in all, loved it. Great place, lovely people, good value! See you soon!
