“Beautiful area and wonderful hosts!”
Reviewed 6 October 2012

We stayed here for a week in late June and had a wonderful holiday in this beautiful area of southern France, an area which we hadn't been to before but will definitely return to! Caroline and Bob are superb hosts and they have thought of everything you might need both in the gite itself and in and around the pool and BBQ areas. There is plenty to do in the surrounding area with mountain walks and pretty villages on your doorstep and less than an hour's drive to the charming fishing village of Collioure and the beach at Argelès-sur-Mer.

It was a wonderfully relaxing place to be with stunning views. We definitely plan to return and highly recommend La Chataigneraie.

Absolutely stunning and the same time quiet location. The place is in the valley about 600 metres above sea level so the air is so fresh and not heavy that gives a unbelievable night sleep. Waking up to views of the Pyrenes also very relaxing. Last but not least, Manns family very welcoming and most helpful with anything you need. They trying to make your holiday experience as best as possible. You get lots of options for free what you wouldn't get in other places.
To summarize: If you want a quiet relaxing and sight seeing (plenty of that) holiday its definitely the place for you. If you want cycling or walking holiday - its also definitely place for you. If you want clubbing and dancing all night holiday, maybe you need to get somewhere else or be prepared to travel for an hour.
Anyway, absolutely enjoyed the holiday experience and cant wait to do it again. Big thank you to Carolyne and Bob.

My wife and I have just returned from a week staying at La Chataigneraie, Sahorre, France. A wonderful location with fabulous views of mountains and valleys. The hosts Caroline and Bob Mann made us feel so welcome and could not have been more helpful - suggesting lovely places to visit and things to do. Our room was extremely comfortable, with all the extra touches that make just the difference. The resident's lounge with it's comfortable sofas and cosy log burning fire made for several very happy evenings. At the touch of a button a large screen descends and TV programmes and films from the library can be enjoyed. We look forward to visiting again in the near future.

We had a wonderful week here earlier this summer (July 2012). What a find - beautiful scenery all around and extremely comfortable accommodation with loads to do on site.

We'd planned to do lots of walking, mountain biking and watersports, as well as general exploring of the local area, but our "base" was so relaxing (and the weather so beautiful!) that we hardly ventured out. The pool is perfect - big enough for a decent swim and the most beautiful and calming views from all around it.

The gite was well equipped with all the crockery and utensils we needed - in fact much better equipped (and definitely the most scenic) than any other gite we've stayed in.

Tip - if you're travelling by budget airline and the weather promises to be half decent – you don’t need to put luggage in the hold. You can borrow a hairdrier when you get there, and buy any toiletries that aren't allowed in hand luggage. We lived in swimming costumes, shorts and a T shirt, and only needed one jumper for the occasional chilly morning or evening.

Can't recommend this place enough. Many thanks Caroline and Bob!

We stayed at La Chataigneraie with our 18 year old daughter. We had Le Petit Gite booked and would have been fine, but decided as there was a room available (chambre d'hôte) that she would enjoy having her own space. We were all very happy- the petit gite was perfect, very comfortable, well furnished and equipped- our terrace was a real evening sun trap. Our daughter's room was comfortable, well furnished and en suite. We were able to access books, a gym and herb and spices in the main building and spent a great evening watching the Olympic closing ceremony on a huge screen in the lounge(thanks for the invitation Caroline- we really enjoyed it!) Caroline and Bob are great hosts- welcoming and helpful but never 'too much'. The location is beautiful- lovely views, plenty to go and see/ do, good walking country, travel into the Pyrenees, sample local wines and food etc- or just relax at 'home'- lounge in the sun, take a dip in the well kept pool, have a barbeque... I thoroughly recommend La Chataigneraie.

Room Tip: oops-no room service- rated by accident (not a hotel)
